It had started with a tap on his shoulder.
"Hey, Yosuke, have you heard of this guy?"
Yosuke turned around in his chair to peer at the face on the small screen of Chie's flip phone. "...Narukami Yu? Didn't he release that really popular album recently?"
"So you know him?"
"In passing, I guess. Why're you showing me this?"
"Since you're listening to music all the time, I figured you'd know something about him." She snapped her phone shut. "I mean, even I admit his music's pretty good."
"Come on, other than Risette, you know I don't really listen to idols like that." Chie let out a long sigh as he turned back to his homework.
"Yeah, yeah. You and your niche, quirky, western bands."
At that he whipped back around, but she had already disappeared behind a bookshelf.
It wasn't just Chie either. Wherever he went, he would always overhear at least someone talking about this Narukami guy and his new album. Hell, even Saki was talking about him.
"Hm... have you listened to any of Narukami's songs, Hana-chan?"
"Ah, no, I haven't..."
"It's a little embarrassing to admit, but I've been listening to his songs on repeat lately." Saki twirled a coil of hair around her finger. "He's pretty good, you know?
...That was how Yosuke found himself in front of their downstairs computer one night, staring at Narukami Yu's entire discography on YouTube. The fear of missing out had finally gotten to him.

After a few moments of staring skeptically at one thumbnail, he clicked on it. And he listened. And oh God, he finally got it.
It wasn't that Narukami had a bizarrely angelic singing voice or was drop dead gorgeous - no, that would be too cliché. It was just... unique. Narukami wasn't following the instrumental, the instrumental was following him. That and the fact that he had a bizarrely angelic singing voice and was drop dead gorgeous. Men could admit other men were attractive. Right? Right.
Surely the rest of his songs couldn't be this good.
He showed up at school the next day having had barely five hours of sleep and sporting very dark eyebags.
