“Uhg, Lothalians are so boring.” Sabine rolled her eyes and went back to her datapad.
“I’m Lothali,” Ezra pointed out.
“My point still stands.” She scrolled through the net registries, growing somehow more disappointed. “There’s almost no one with a bounty on them, and the ones that do are for things like overdue loans. The only ones with a high enough payment to be worth our time are Imperial, and we don’t want to mess with those, right?”
“Sure,” he replied casually.
She raised an eyebrow, then glanced at her partner. “Ezra. Is that a Loth Cat?”
The tan ball of fluff made a noise in response, causing Ezra to hold it a little closer. “To be fair, he found his way into my lap by himself with absolutely no encouragement from me.”
“Uh huh.”
Their perch from the top of a random roof (well, random to her, Ezra knew the shop below for making good sourdough) gave the duo a decent enough spot for scouting our potential marks. Lothal was never the best place to do their business, but between the relative lack of Imperial presence and the kid’s personal attachments, it was just fine for two teenaged bounty hunters. Especially when they would still spot the occasional wanted man.
“Woah,” she breathed out. “I think I saw that guy on the lists a week ago.”
“Wait,” Ezra sat up straight, causing the Loth Cat to run off, “like, the big lists?”
“Oh yeah.” She pulled up the listing. “His name’s Kanan Jarrus, and some dude named Kasmir is willing to pay…forty thousand credits! Osi’kyr we’re gonna be rich!”
“We could finally get a pet!”
Sabine sighed at her partner and went back to watching their target. He and his trenchcoat disappeared into what she knew was a glorified pawn shop. It seemed like a completely average situation until a green Twi’lek positioned herself outside the door. And she was dressed like a pilot, which was not what Sabine had grown to expect, so there must be something more at play here.
She put on her helmet and tuned its listening features just in time for their mark to be kicked out of the store. It gave her a front row seat to…whatever was going to go down between these two.
The Twi’lek gave a half nod, keeping her arms crossed. “What happened?”
In response, Jarrus just stared at the woman with his mouth hanging open. Oh great, a love struck fool.
She raised her eyebrows. “You speak basic?”
“Yes,” he sputtered out, “normally fairly well. That guy just bailed out a deal.” He swaggered closer. “I hate a man who isn’t true to his word.”
“I’m sure you do.” She nodded disinterestedly, before gazing at the metal sphere he was still holding. “What are you planning on doing with that?”
“Finding a buyer. I don’t exactly have a use for it.”
Her hand danced over his arm, and Sabine knew exactly where this was going. “You ever think about giving it away?”
He smirked. “I could be persuaded.”
The Twi’lek titled her head, then promptly kneed the dude in the crotch and ran away with the orb. Sabine couldn’t help but snort at the predictability while motioning Ezra to descend to the street. He always seemed to have an easier time with things like that, gracefully descending while she thudded to the ground. Maybe with this bounty, she could finally get herself a jetpack and even the playing field.
By the time they reached the battling lovers, she was pinned under him while pressing a blaster to his ribs. Even on the stun setting, that range would cause some serious damage their bounty poster wouldn’t appreciate. So, Sabine launched herself into the tussle, knocking their bounty into safety but letting the woman go.
“Ezra, get her!” She had barely finished her sentence when she was flung off and into a nearby window. While she certainly expected for her hold to not last, the strength she was thrown with impressed her. Guess there’s a reason for the 40k.
She looked up to see Ezra fighting the woman, then he shrieked, “You bit me!?” while wringing out his hand. Kanan showed up a moment later, tackling the woman into a nearby fountain and nabbing the orb at the same time. He grinned at the object, before looking at the teenage boy who was staring in bewilderment. Their little magical moment was cut off by Sabine shooting a taser and causing the man to crumple. She wouldn’t have noticed the sphere dropping from his hand, if not for the fact that the woman, who clearly valued the hunk of metal more than her own life, springing back up from the fountain to grab it and once again bolt.
Sabine grunted as she aimed a Westar at the woman, shooting her with a stun blast and causing her to drop not twenty paces away. That probably wasn’t necessary, but at this point she didn’t have the mental capacity to determine if it was. Ezra was still staring at the man on the ground like he held all the secrets to the galaxy.
“You sure were helpful,” she commented while getting out her binders.
He frowned. “We did get him.”
“With no help from you,” she mumbled while snapping on the cuffs.
The sound of blasters clicking caused her to freeze. She slowly looked up to find a dozen stormtroopers with their aim set of their little quartet of misfits. Dank farrik.
“You are under arrest by the authority of the Empire,” the buckethead closest to her announced. “Remove all weapons and be prepared for transport to the local Imperial lockup.”
Oh. So they were completely and totally doomed.
