Work Text:
Esteban knew there wasn’t a whole lot left of his childhood. Living out of a caravan for so many years meant they didn’t have a lot of space for three people plus all their stuff. So when Esteban was going through the boxes in his parent’s spare room he didn’t expect to find a photo album, the photo album of him and Pierre when they were young. Esteban thought this was long gone, lost in a move somewhere as he hasn’t seen it in years. Esteban ended up sitting on the floor, legs crossed with the album on his lap. He looked through each page, the memories of his childhood flooding back to him. He remembered how close him and Pierre used to be, growing up together, karting together before the fall-out in the teens. His relationship with Pierre was the biggest regret of his life, and he wanted to repair it more than anything. Esteban kept the photo album, he wasn’t sure what he was going to do with it but he just knew he needed to keep it with him.
**
Esteban has been looking through the photo album everyday, trying to remember all the moment of his childhood he spent with Pierre. Esteban was so caught up in looking at the pictures he didn’t hear the knocking at the door, until the door to his driver’s room opened.
“Esteban, are you coming? We’re waiting for you.” Pierre’s voice was sharp, as it always was these day when he talked to Esteban.
“Yeah, sorry about that. Coming now.” Esteban sat the album aside.
“What were you looking at?” Pierre had a feeling he should know what that book was, a memory deep in his brain.
“It’s nothing, just a photo album.” Esteban felt his cheeks heat up, the last thing he needed was Pierre finding out what he was looking at and making fun of him.
“Clearly it’s not nothing if you’re this invested in it.” Pierre stepped fully into the room and grabbed the book off the table. As soon as he saw the cover he knew exactly what this was.
“Is this the photo album of our childhood?” Pierre asked, even if he knew her answer.
“Yeah. I found it looking through some boxes at my parent’s house. I thought we lost it in all our moving but I guess it survived.”
“I remember putting this together. We spend days picking out pictures and putting them into the album.” Pierre smiled to himself, flipping through the pages. Memories he thought he forgot about coming back to him at while he flipped through the album.
“We did. It was one of the last summers we had before everything fell apart.” Esteban remembered those days, days of the two being together all it time, hardly ever apart for any reason.
“Those were good times.” Pierre smiled to himself. He hated how his relationship with Esteban ended and what it had become over the years. This photo album might be what they both needed to repair their friendship.
