He had gotten the idea from Hermione originally—nature verses nurture—spent so many hours asking ‘what if’. What if his parent had lived? What if Draco hadn’t been raised in blood supremacy? What if Neville’s parents hadn’t been tortured to insanity? Sirius, Fred, Remus, Tonks—would any of it have changed anything? Could love have prevented the wars?
Looking back on it now he didn’t think it could. While the chance of failure lived at the forefront of his mind he never anticipated that he could make things worse. How had he gotten it so wrong? They were a matched pair after all, mirrors, circles; his beginning where Voldemort ended.
