Special Assignment: Digital Baby!

Summary:

Shinsou finds himself getting paired up with Bakugou. Not for any normal assignment. This is a special one from Nezu himself. They get to take care of a baby together. It's not a real baby, rather one of Hatsume's many inventions. So, now he has to worry about keeping this baby alive, Bakugou's yelling, and even less sleep. Who knew that was possible?

Or

“Really? Dumpster Fire? We are not keeping that name.”

Bakugou scoffed at that. “I couldn't think of anything. I just needed to type something in to have access over his report.”

“So, that was your first thought?”

“Babies poop.”

Notes:

I have returned back into this world. Who knew life could throw so much garbage at you? Anyway, enjoy a new fic idea I came up with a few hours ago. I thought about it and wrote it all out today. More will be coming soon!

Chapter Text

The door slammed open, startling everyone. It took Shinsou's brain a good ten seconds to realize he had been drifting off in class again. Luckily, Midnight seemed to be interrupting it now.

“Hello, everyone!”

“Midnight..why are you disturbing my class?” Aizawa asked with a loud sigh.

“I'm actually here to give everyone a special assignment.” She spoke, pulling up a big bag to show off.

“Don't you have your own class for that? Quit bothering my students.”

Shinsou was immediately confused by this. Why would she just come in here? He glanced around but none of his other classmates seemed to understand what was happening either.

“It's a special assignment from Nezu himself.”

That made Aizawa stiffen up. “Why would he not tell me about it?”

“It was a spur of the moment. Hatsume just made some new inventions, so he wanted the hero course to watch over them.” She explained with a small smile.

Watch over them?

Aizawa rolled his eyes. “Well, hurry up then. I'm about to assign them a practice test.”

Midnight stepped forward in front of Aizawa. “Listen up kiddos! This special assignment is important. You are to take this very seriously!” She pulled out a fake baby from the bag. “Each of you will take care of one of these babies with a partner.”

Oh god. Why did he show up to class today?

Shinsou sank down in his seat. There was no escape route. She was blocking the main exit. He glanced down to his empty notes. He had to worry about some stupid baby and a practice test?

He was going to fail.

“Um, excuse me but how are these Hatsume's inventions?” Iida called from his seat.

“I'm glad you asked! These babies are much more active. Something that you'll easily discover soon. Still, they are babies, so take care of them. Obviously, to do so you simply take care of their daily needs. It shouldn't take too long to finish each task. Just communicate with your partner. Also, they can move on their own, so make sure to keep track of them.” She then reached into her bag to pull out a clipboard. She placed the baby on the desk.

“Nezu has already placed you with specific partners, so there's no switching. Uraraka please step forward first.”

The girl jumped up quickly and walked over. She looked almost excited to be doing this.

Aizawa wandered over to his sleeping bag. “..This is going to take a while. If you hog up all my class time then make sure to pass out my practice tests.” The male yawned before crawling into his yellow cocoon.

Shinsou leaned back a bit more, watching Uraraka happily take the baby. Maybe he would be partners with her. At least it would be pretty simple. She'd be happy to do the fun stuff and he could mostly ignore it.

Though, his thoughts broke as she approached Iida’s desk. Guess they are partners. Oh well, there's still plenty of options.

He eventually spaced out as each student was called to go collect a baby. It wasn't anything that interesting. Honestly, he hoped they forgot about him since he was just transferred this year.

Katsuki Bakugou.”

That name caught his attention. He could not imagine the explosive blond with a child. His eyes followed the male as he went up to Midnight. He didn't look happy. Granted, he never did but this was worse. Shinsou knew enough to read his expression.

“How is this supposed to help with hero training?! I didn't sign up for daycare!”

Well, he wasn't wrong there.

“It's important. This is to help everyone understand adult responsibly if you consider having children one day. Especially as a hero. You can learn what it would be like to muiltask, the expenses, and good communication.” Midnight spoke as she lowered a piece of paper.

She totally just read that off a paper Nezu gave her.

Bakugou didn't look convinced. “That's pointless! I don't need some stupid baby in my way!”

“Please! Seeing young hero students become cute little parents is adorable!” She shouted before quickly calming back down. “Anyway, it's not a good idea to refuse this assignment. This is a final for my class.”

Everyone froze.

How?! It's only the middle of the year.

Bakugou grumbled and took the baby out of her hands, dangling it by its side. “This is stupid..”

She ignored his comment and gave him a bag. “This is everything your baby will need. Make sure to give him a name. Also, go to your partners desk. It's labed on the baby bag.”

Bakugou squinted and glared, stomping away.

Shinsou found himself shaking his head. That poor baby. It was going to suffer. Good luck to whoever has to deal with all that.

He continued to watch Midnight talk but suddenly a desk bumped right into his. Then a chair scrapped the floor.

No.

He looked over to see Bakugou glaring right into his soul.

“You can't be serious..”

Bakugou slammed the bag down onto the desk. His eyes flew to the label glued onto the front.

Katsuki Bakugou & Hitoshi Shinsou

Proud parents of:

He wanted to die. He was temped to have Midoriya come over and Detroit Smash his head.

His eyes follow the baby as Bakugou suddenly tossed it to him. Shinsou was quick to catch it. “Hey, you can't just throw it at me!? It's our grade!”

Bakugou rolled his eyes, ignoring his complaint. “What kind of twisted class is this..?”

Shinsou huffed as he looked over the baby. It- or well..he apparently was very heavy. He lifted one of his sleeves. “It's made out of metal?” He mumbled.

“Duh. It is one of the pink haired freaks inventions.”

“I thought they were plastic.” He said while turning the baby in his hold. “Why paint the face but nothing else?”

Bakugou started to go through the bag. “I don't know? Who cares. I want to get this over as quickly as possible. There's got to be something in here to give us advice.”

The baby started squirming absolutely scaring him. He jumped slightly causing Bakugou to jerk. “It really does move-!”

Bakugou took it from him. “If you drop him then we really will fail idot.”

You said you wanted it over as quickly as possible.”

Bakugou suddenly leaned in a lot closer. “Shut up.”

“Make me.”

“Boys quit arguing in the back!” Midnight's voice carried through the classroom. Everyone was now looking at them. He bowed his head in apology and shoved Bakugou’s down with him. The blond grumbled but didn't push him off. Probably because he was holding the baby.

“This will last for a month. Whoever brings thier baby back in the best health will get an extra reward.” She smiled. “You can connect your baby to an app on your phone. Then you can see their status.”

Shinsou gripped his head. He could not deal with Bakugou for a month. Maybe he should just transfer back to general studies.

Midnight said a few other things but he couldn't pay attention any longer. His brain was on overdrive. He hardly even noticed when Aizawa passed out his practice tests.

Shinsou found himself at the training field after class was over. Usually, he would be heading to his dorm. Unfortunately, he needed to talk to Bakugou. This is where the blond normally went according to Midoriya.

“Bakugou?” He mumbled throughout the area.

His eyes immediately fell onto the bleachers where the blond was sitting. He took himself over. “Way to just ditch me.”

Bakugou glared up at him. “I'm not sticking around to deal with everyone talking about their new babies.”

Shinsou crossed his arms. “Where is our baby?”

Bakugou moved to pull the baby out of his bag.

“You can't just put him in there! If he was real he'd suffocate!” He found himself shouting. “Are you trying to fail us!”

Bakugou blinked and looked down at the baby. “He's fine. It'll make him tough or whatever.”

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “Did you download that app Midnight was talking about?”

“Yeah. I'm not stupid.”

He was honestly surprised by that answer. His eyes followed Bakugou as the guy showed him his phone.

The stats were all pretty good. Aside from happiness.

Wonder why his happiness is low, huh?” He taunted, unable to resist.

“I won't shove him in a bag again, okay?! Is that what you want to hear!”

He took Bakugou's phone while he was busy yelling.

Hey!”

Shinsou looked over everything.

Name: Dumpster Fire.

Happiness: 40%
Hunger: 100%
Sleep: 80%
Hygiene: 75%
Health: 99%

“Really? Dumpster Fire? We are not keeping that name.”

Bakugou scoffed at that. “I couldn't think of anything. I just needed to type something in to have access over his report.”

“So, that was your first thought?”

“Babies poop.”

“Real mature. Did you hang around Denki too much? Sounds like something he'd say.”

Bakugou pushed himself up and took his phone back. “I’d like to see you come up with a clever name then Eyebags!”

Shinsou moved to pull his phone out. He quickly downloaded the app while Bakugou was busy flipping him off.

“Hm, I'll go with Oliver.”

“That's literally so basic.” Bakugou grumbled while placing the baby down on the bench.

“Better then yours. We can change it later. Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight.” He teased.

Bakugou shot off the bench.

He sprinted away as quickly as his legs would take him. He turned to check how close Bakugou was but froze.

What the-”

The male stopped just inches away. “Quit acting all scared. Fight me you coward!”

Shinsou couldn't find his words. He just pointed up. That was enough for Bakugou to roll his eyes and look up. “I swear if this is some basic get away plan- uh..”

They both watched as their baby flew above them. It suddenly dropped from the air. Bakugou reacted fast enough to catch it. “What the hell?!”

Shinsou just stood there dumfounded. They made these stupid things fly?

Bakugou pulled up the shirt to see a tiny propeller on its back. “This answers your question from earlier. It's painted on its face because nothing comes out of it. Everything else has tiny compartments.”

“Fantastic. Why wouldn't it?!”

The baby started to cry. “Great, now you made it cry idiot!”

“How was I supposed to know it would start! It hasn't cried at all. Even when we yelled during class.” He argued, watching the child wiggle around.

Bakugou started to rock it. “Just..stop talking for a minute.”

For once Shinsou listened to him. Anything to make it stop.

After a few minutes the baby fell asleep. He let out a sigh of relief.

“There. Not that hard.”

How did the loudest member of class know how to relax a child?

“If you say so.”

...

“I'll watch him tonight.”

Shinsou paused at that. Could he be trusted? He should take the offer. It's what he wanted. He was hoping the partner he got would love babies but he knew Bakugou wasn't like that, so why was he offering to watch him?

“Don't you hate babies?” The question slipped out before he could stop himself.

What? Who told you that?” The blond scoffed. “I don't love them but I can take care of them.”

“Why do you want him tonight?”

“Cause I train early. It'll be your turn later.”

“We have to take turns?” He stared down at the little baby.

“Duh! I'm not just going to keep him the whole time. Team assignment and all that.” Bakugou quit rocking around the child. “You get him at 4 AM.”

“That's so early!?” He huffed in disbelief.

“Like you're ever asleep at that time?”

He couldn't argue with that. “Fine.”

Bakugou moved to grab his bag.

“Wait.”

“What now?”

Shinsou looked at him for a moment.

“Spit it out or I'm throwing the baby across the field.”

Shinsou quickly fumbled over his words. “What- no! Um, can I borrow your notes? I wasn't paying attention in class.”

Bakugou smirked at the question. “More like drooling.”

“No, I wasn't!”

“You were definitely asleep.”

Shinsou found himself rolling his eyes. “So, yes or no?”

“Yeah, you own me though.” Bakugou said before tossing his bag at Shinsou.

He caught it with ease and dug around until he found the male's notebook. He took it out and held the bag back out towards him. “Like what?”

“I'll figure it out.”

Shinsou couldn't find himself to care right now. Today was already bad enough. Bakugou wanting a favor from him later was a future Shinsou problem. “Whatever. Thanks for the notes. Have fun with Oliver.” He rushed off before Bakugou could stop him.

"We really have to keep the name Oliver?"

He didn't bother to answer that question. Bakugou could not be trusted with naming things.
