Call Me

Summary:

The end of a first date was something Julie had always found a little awkward and difficult. Didi not so much.

Notes:

I haven’t posted anything I’ve written in about 20 years so please go easy on me! Starting small with this little Ficlet and hoping someone will find enjoyment in reading it as I did writing it.

Work Text:

“Tonight was really fun,” Didi said as she leaned her hip against Julie’s car as Julie opened the driver's door.

“It really was,” Julie turned back and rested her arm along the top of the door.

“We should do it again soon,” Didi offered a sweet smile.

“I would like that,” Julie replied a little woodenly. She shifted anxiously in place, unsure of what to say or do next. The end of a first date was something she had always found a little awkward and difficult.

“Hey,” Didi called her attention to her softly.

Julie looked up and found Didi watching her with warm eyes. Didi shifted closer and then her hand lifted. Her thumb, index and middle fingers caught Julie’s chin as her ring and pinky fingers curled underneath. Didi paused for a moment gauging her reaction.

Then the fingers under her chin tilted her face up slightly and Didi was leaning in, warm lips pressed to Julie’s a second later and Julie felt her knees weaken a little bit as she kissed back.

She briefly felt a burst of gratitude for the arm still along the car door that prevented her from melting into a puddle on the sidewalk.

When Didi finally pulled away, slowly, her thumb moved from Julie’s chin to wipe along just under her bottom lip. Fixing her lipstick, Julie realised.

“Call me,” Didi said softly as her hand dropped away. Julie caught it and squeezed gently for a moment before letting go.

“Yeah, I definitely will,” she replied. Didi smiled at her, warm and sweet and Julie felt the butterflies in her stomach stir all over again.

After watching Didi walk back to her own car, Julie dropped into the driver's seat of hers and reached up to touch her fingers to her lips, idly wondering if right now was too soon to call her.
