Work Text:
Match and Pencil have been very awkward around each other for a while. One has been defeated, and Pencil still hadn’t told Match everything that had happened in the timeloop. She couldn’t bear to tell her how pathetic she was. Pencil never had trouble expressing her emotions or understanding them before, but recently it’s been really hard for her. And that really showed when she was back in season 1. She constantly blew up on everyone and when confronted she felt more angry. And when she wasn’t pissed off all the time she was practically hanging from Match’s arm like she couldn’t live without her. And that feeling is pretty hypocritical when she had been pushing Match away for at least a year at this point.
However, Match didn’t seem to care much. She was definitely upset a bit though, Pencil could tell because things were very awkward when it was just the two of them. She wished things could go back to how they used to, but she had wanted that for a while, and she screwed up the one chance she had, so there wasn't a point in entertaining that thought anymore.
Pencil splashed some cold water on her face and wiped off the bit of eyeliner she had on. She felt nervous. Match was coming over to her room today to do her makeup and have a sleepover. Just the two of them. They used to have Freesmart sleepovers all the time but, Freesmart wasn't a thing anymore.
Pencil wiped her face with a paper towel to dry it off and looked at herself in the mirror. Her hair was growing out and her dark brown roots were showing. It wasn’t nearly as long as it used to be after she cut it in the exit, but it’s about to her shoulders now, even though the bangs are the same. She kinda liked it short so maybe she’ll cut it again later.
Pencil looks at her glasses sitting on the counter and sighs. She got them after BFDIA ended because her vision started to get so bad that Ruby thought she was forgetting how to read. However, Book knew what it was since she also had glasses, and she tested her. Turns out Pencil had a hard time seeing things that were far away, she couldn’t remember if that was near-sided or far-sided for the life of her though. She hated wearing them and normally wore contacts, but Match said she looked really cute when she wore them.
Pencil heard a knock on the door, interrupting her thoughts. It had to be Match. Pencil put on her glasses and went to open the door.
“Hey Pence Pence!!” Match said when she opened the door.
Match was already in pajamas, and unlike Pencil who mostly just slept in whatever she wore for the day, Match had a bunch of pairs of cute pajamas she always slept in. Her frizzy hair was messy and not tied in any way, so Pencil assumed her bonnet was in her bag. Her messy hair didn’t make her look any less beautiful though.
“Hi Matchy.” Pencil smiled a bit and opened the door wider to let her in.
Match quickly set her stuff on the floor next to Pencil’s bed. Pencil closed the door, and Match ran over to give her a hug. Match squeezed her tightly.
“I missed you Pence Pence.” She whispered into Pencil’s ear.
Pencil was shocked by her sudden hug, but she wasn’t exactly surprised. Pencil hugged her back, holding onto her just as, if not tighter, then Match held Pencil.
“I missed you too.” Pencil said.
Match pulled back a bit, smiling from ear to ear. She looked so adorable that Pencil couldn’t help but smile at her.
The two girls stared at each other for a while. Pencil looked at her face closely. She had quite a bit of freckles littered on her dark skin, and she had a few acne scars Pencil had never seen before. It’s crazy how much she’s changed since season 1. Maybe it's not, but Pencil saw season 1 Match not even a month ago, so it was a bit weird to her. Eventually Pencil’s gaze fell onto her lips. Lips that she had kissed so many times in the past, but that hadn’t even crossed her mind in so long.
Pencil had no idea what their relationship status was at the moment. They’d never officially broken up since season 1, but it wouldn’t feel right to assume they were still together after all that had happened.
Pencil shoved her face into the crook of Match’s neck. “I forgot how nice it was to hug you.” She said, feeling tears well up in her eyes. She pushed them down, she wasn’t going to cry tonight.
Match held onto her tighter. “Me too.” She said, threading her hand through Pencil’s hair.
They continued to hold each other for a while, Pencil rubbing Match’s back and Match running her hands through Pencil’s hair. They were quiet the whole time.
Eventually Match broke the silence. “I like, have the stuff in my bag. Do you wanna get like, started?”
Pencil sighed. “Yeah.” She answered. She let go of Match and started to walk to the bathroom before Match stopped her by holding her hand. Pencil looked back at her, confused.
Match just interlocked their fingers together and walked over to her bag. She opens it and takes out her makeup bag. She smiles at Pencil and they walk into the bathroom together. Match lets go of Pencil hand and claps her hands together.
“Ok Pence Pence! I know we’re gonna go to sleep and you shouldn’t like, sleep in makeup.” Match opens her bag and puts all her stuff out on the counter. “But it’s just for fun! So you can like, shower afterwards.”
Pencil chuckles as she watches Match organize all of her stuff. “Great thinking ahead Matchy.”
Match gently nudges Pencil. “Not everything I do has to be like, a good decision!” She says, smiling.
“Clearly.” Pencil says sarcastically.
Match playfully punches her. “Do you like, want me to do this or not?”
Pencil laughs. “No I doooo I’m sorry.” She leans on Match’s shoulder.
“Good.” Match says proudly. “Now, I need you to pull your hair back. I’ll use clips for your bangs, just so it’s like, easier.”
Pencil nods and grabs a hair tie from the counter.
“Are you like, growing your hair back out?” Match asked as she looked for clips in her bag. “I know you liked it long, I just don’t know if you wanted a change or something.”
Pencil tightens the hair tie and thinks for a minute. “I'm not sure to be honest.”
Match turns back towards Pencil with a few clips in her hands. Match is silent while clipping Pencil’s hair back so she keeps talking.
“I wasn’t doing very well when I cut it, obviously.” Pencil looks at Match’s concentrated face. “So my short hair never really reminded me of happy things. But I did kinda like the look of it.”
“I understand that.” Match says, putting the last clip in Pencil’s hair. “There are some hairstyles that just like, remind me of bad times in my life.” Match backs up and looks at Pencil. “I don’t really like high afro puffs anymore because they remind me of the Locker of Losers.”
Pencil frowns, feeling a pang of guilt, but she doesn’t mention it. She just nods in understanding.
“I think I’ll grow it out pretty long before I see how I feel.” Pencil says. “I do need to dye it again soon though. You’re so lucky that your natural hair color is so pretty on you Matchy, my dark brown looks awful on me.”
Match’s face reddens at the compliment. “Thanks Pence Pence.” She smiles. “And I honestly think you would like, look really good with dark brown hair!”
Pencil chuckles. “You think I look good in everything.” She says sarcastically.
“Because you do!” Match says. “Like, I could do any makeup look on you right now and you would look stunning regardless!”
Pencil’s face flushes. “Ok ok whatever.” She brushes it off. “Let’s just get started.”
Match smiles. “Got it!”
Match stares at Pencil for a moment before Pencil tilts her head. “I’m a bit surprised that you’re like, wearing your glasses.”
Pencil feels embarrassed. She looks horrible doesn’t she? Match thinks she looks disgusting right?
Match smiles. “I wish you would wear them another time, cuz you look really cute and I have to take them off.”
Pencil’s face feels even hotter. “I- uh-” She stammers then clears her throat. “Whatever, I’ll take them off.” She quickly takes off her glasses and puts them on the counter.
Match snickers at Pencil’s reaction which only makes Pencil more embarrassed.
Match looks back at all her supplies. She has many different shades of foundation. Pencil didn’t think she would have this many different colors, since she’ll only use one. Match picks up two light colors and compares them. She then brings them to Pencil’s face to color match.
“Why do you have so many shades?” Pencil asks.
Match puts the lightest color down and grabs a brush. “I do makeup for like, other people sometimes.” Match squirts some foundation on her hand and dabs the brush on it. “Sometimes I get paid, like one time Pen asked me to do his makeup before. But sometimes just for fun. Like Ruby and Bubble.” Match starts to dab the brush on Pencil’s face.
“I have many more foundations for myself in my shade, but I like to have a wide range for when I do others' makeup.”
“I didn’t know Pen liked makeup.” Pencil said.
“Neither did I!” Match said.
Pencil is quiet as Match applies the product onto her face. She closes her eyes, finding the sensation of the brush on her face weirdly relaxing. Match starts to hum quietly as she continues to apply product on Pencil’s face.
“Didja want anything specific?” Match asks.
Pencil opens her eyes seeing Match with a blush compact and a brush in her hands. Pencil thinks for a second. “I don’t know, nothing too crazy, but you can experiment. Have fun.”
Match smiles. “You got it, Pence Pence.”
Pencil smiles at the familiar nickname and closes her eyes again. Match applies a bit of blush before telling Pencil to open her mouth a bit. Pencil opens her eyes to see Match holding lipstick. She opens her mouth slightly and Match applies the lipstick. Match is so close to her face, she can feel her face heat up. The way Match sticks out her tongue when she’s focused is so cute. Pencil stops herself from smiling so Match doesn’t mess up.
Match glares at her. “Stop like, smiling Pence Pence.” She says.
“I’m not!” Pencil says.
“Then stop talking!” She says, laughing a bit.
Pencil chuckles a bit before focusing again.
Match finishes putting on the lipstick and puts it back on the counter. Pencil tries to look at herself in the mirror but Match quickly stops her.
“Nuh-uh!” She says. “Not until I’m done.” She smirks.
“Ughh you're so mean Matchy.” Pencil jokes.
“Trust me, you're gonna wanna like, wait to see it when it's done.” Match picks up an eyeshadow palette and opens it. She stares at the colors for a minute before grabbing Pencil’s arm.
“What are you doing?” Pencil asks. Match doesn’t respond, she just dabs her brush in one color and spreads it onto Pencil’s forearm. It's a sparkly white color that kinda blends with Pencil’s skin tone making it look like transparent glitter. Match does the same with one that is a dusty hot pink.
Match stares at the colors for a moment. “Which one do you like more Pence Pence?” She asks.
Pencil looks at the eyeshadows next to each other for a moment. “The white.” She says.
Match smiles. “Good choice.” She dabs the small brush into the white and faces Pencil again. “Close your eyes.” She says.
Pencil does what she says and quickly feels Match swipe the brush on her eyelids. This is a less relaxing feeling from when she just applied foundation on her face.
After eyeshadow Match puts on some eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, and does some finishing touches.
“Alright!! It's all finished! You can like, look now.” Match says, smiling proudly.
Pencil looks in the mirror and…
She looks beautiful.
The eyeliner and sparkly eyeshadow make her eyes look bigger, and her eyebags are nowhere near as visible as they were just ten minutes ago. Her lips look more vibrant and her face overall looks just… cleaner. She looks gorgeous.
Match sets her hands on Pencil’s shoulders, looking into the mirror beside Pencil. “What do you like, think Pence Pence?”
Pencil smiles. “I look amazing. You did so good!”
Pencil puts a hand on her cheek and grins. Match moves her hands around her waist and hugs Pencil tightly. “I’m like, so glad you like it!!”
Pencil turns around to hug Match back, picking her up in the process. Match squeals a bit in surprise, clearly not expecting Pencil to pick her up. Match wraps her legs around Pencil’s waist and holds onto her shoulders by pure instinct. Pencil holds her up by her hips and she smiles at her. Pencil used to pick Match up like this all the time.
Match laughs. “When was the last time you like, picked me up like this?” She asks.
“IDFB I think?” Pencil says.
“Too long ago.” Match says, cupping Pencil’s face in her hands. “Has it like, gotten any harder to pick me up?” She asks.
“Nope, it’s gotten easier actually.” Pencil brags.
Match chuckles. “That just means you gotta pick me up like, all the time.” She says, bringing her face closer to Pencil’s and smirking.
Pencil leans her face forward so that their noses touch. “I can do much more than just pick you up Matchy.” Pencil says in a low voice, smirking while staring right into Match’s eyes.
Match never breaks eye contact with Pencil. “Like what?” She whispers.
“Whatever you want from me, Match.” Pencil rubs Match’s back with one hand, and moves her other hand to hold Match’s weight while grabbing her thigh.
Match is quiet for a while, her face showing a clear and aggressive blush. “I-” She starts to say something but cuts herself off by pressing her lips to Pencil’s.
Pencil is caught a bit off guard, but she lets Match press their faces together as she slowly puts Match back on the ground. The second Match’s feet hit the ground, Pencil pushes her up against the bathroom wall, kissing her aggressively.
Match grunts from the impact, but quickly attacks Pencil’s mouth with the same aggressiveness. Pencil squeezes Match’s hips, holding onto her like a lifeline. Match’s hands roam around Pencil’s back, feeling her all over.
Pencil bites Match’s bottom lip and she moans quietly. Pencil feels her legs go weak at the sound. Match shoves her tongue into Pencil’s mouth, feeling around inside. Pencil gently puts the tips of her fingers under Match’s shirt. Match moans again at the feeling, and Pencil takes that as incentive to keep feeling her bare skin.
Pencil puts her hands completely under Match’s shirt and feels her bra. Match pulls her face back from Pencil’s just enough to stop kissing. She rests her forehead on Pencil’s and looks into her eyes. Match smiles from ear to ear.
“God I’ve missed you Pencil.” Match says, her voice shaking.
Pencil kisses all over Match’s face. “I’ve missed you too.” Pencil bites Match’s collarbone and she moans again. “You're so beautiful. Every part of you.”
Match pants. “You're one to talk.” Match slips her hands under the waistband of her pants and feels around her thighs. Pencil moans against Match’s neck at the contact. “You’re the most beautiful person I’ve seen in my life Pencil.”
Pencil feels tears well up in her eyes, so she distracts herself by pulling on the hem of Match’s shirt. Match quickly takes her hands out of Pencil’s pants and puts her arms up to help Pencil take off her shirt. Pencil throws her shirt behind her and looks at Match.
This moment makes Pencil truly realize just how much has changed. She gained a bit of weight and by god it looks good on her. She looks good all the time. Pencil sees a few new scars on her stomach that weren’t there last time they had opened up to each other. Which was a long time ago to be fair. Pencil puts her hands on the new scars and rubs her thumbs across them.
“Are…” Match’s voice is a bit shaky. “Are you mad?”
Pencil could cry right that second. She kisses Match’s lips. “Never.”
Match smiles and she takes a shaky breath. Then she chuckles. “Your makeup is like, so messed up.”
Pencil cups Match’s face. “It was an experiment right?”
“Yeah.” Match says.
Match kisses Pencil’s face and rips off her shirt. Before Pencil can think Match is attacking her chest with kisses and bites. Pencil moans as Match licks her neck.
“Matchy~” Pencil groans.
Pencil feels her smirk against her skin. “Is it too much for you, Pence Pence?”
Pencil slips her hands under Match’s bra and slowly starts to unhook it. “I dunno…” Pencil pushes Match off her and pins her to the wall. “You tell me.”
Match stares at Pencil as she starts to take off her bra. “I can do this right?” Pencil asks.
Match grabs her waist and pulls her closer, she shoves her face in Pencil’s collarbone. “If I haven't told you to stop then don’t.” She says.
Pencil’s face heats up and her legs tremble at her voice. She continues to take off Match’s bras until she’s fully nude from waist up. Pencil admires her gorgeous body, and kisses her breasts. “My god Match. You’re perfect.”
Match is quiet, save for a few moans and heavy breathing, as Pencil continues to kiss her body and praise her. Then Match starts laughing.
“What’s funny?” Pencil asks.
Match giggles before answering. “You like, got lipstick all over me!”
Pencil looks at Match’s chest and face. The matte pink lipstick that Match had put on her was all over her. Kiss marks and smears littered her face and chest.
Pencil snorts. “It looks good on you.” she says smirking.
“Like shut up!” Match says, lightly shoving Pencil. They both start laughing.
Pencil lays her head on Match’s shoulder wrapping her hands around her waist. “We should shower.” She says quietly.
Match takes Pencil’s hair out of the ponytail it was in and starts threading her fingers through it. “We?” she asks.
“Well, yeah. Unless you don’t want to, it's fine.” She says, starting to play with Match’s hair.
“No I do.” Match says.
Match takes her hands out of Pencil’s hair and pushes Pencil off of her, going to hold her hands.
“Can you start the water?” Pencil asks. “I’ll get us some new clothes.”
Match nods and kisses Pencil one more time before walking away.
***
Admittedly, the shower was a bit awkward.
They went from having not spoken in months to making out in the bathroom in the span of a few days. Kinda awkward.
Now Pencil was sitting on her bed waiting for Match to finish getting dressed in the bathroom. Pencil has been missing all of Freesmart for years now, but it wasn’t until now that she realized just how much she missed Match in particular. Obviously she wants to make things right with the rest of the girls, but Match has always meant so much to her. Match was always there for her no matter what. Was that unhealthy for both of them? Yeah, but at least there was one person that Pencil could really depend on.
The bathroom door opened and Match walked out wearing one of Pencil’s old shirts and baggy sweatpants. Before getting in the shower Match brought her bonnet into the bathroom so she could put it on as soon as she got out. It was a dark red color, very similar to her actual hair color.
Match sat down next to Pencil on the bed. It took a few minutes before Match spoke up.
“Pencil, are you ok?” Match asks, looking at her.
Pencil didn’t expect that question. Especially since that was the first thing Match said to her when they saw each other again for the first time in years.
“What do you mean?” Pencil asks.
“I mean like-” Match sighs. “I worry about you like, all the time, Pence Pence, but when I was separated from you with Bubble and Ruby, I realized that I was like, my own person outside you and the alliance. So I got over that and I’m working on recovering from all sorts of things really.”
Match nervously holds onto her shoulders. “But you’ve been through a lot of shit, and I just don’t know if you’ve had time to reflect, or process, or whatever. And I just need to know,” Match looks Pencil dead in the eyes. “Are you ok?”
Pencil stares back at Match and she thinks about her question for a moment. Is she ok? Really? Match was right, she has been through a shit ton of stuff recently, and she really hasn’t had a moment to slow down and think about it.
“I… I don’t know.” Pencil says. She hugs her knees to her chest. “Obviously there's a lot of stuff I need to work on, and people I need to try to make things right with, but honestly.” Pencil plays with her fingers. “I’m feeling better knowing that things are better with you Match.”
Match holds Pencil’s hand and she smiles at her. “I know I’m not perfect, I’m far FAR from it. I’ve hurt my friends. I’ve hurt you. Maybe I shouldn’t be forgiven, I don’t really care if I am. I just need you to know that I’m trying to be better. I want to change for the better.”
Pencil looks at Match and smiles. “I’m glad.” Match says.
Match brought a sleeping bag but she never ended up using it. That night the two girls fell asleep in each other's arms for the first time in years. Things between them were different, but it felt natural, it felt comfortable, like they were never truly apart.
No matter how much distance was between them, they still loved each other. Nothing will change that.
