"you need to relax" said Trinity dropping of white monster on Victoria's table where she was charting
"you don't relax with these you know" said Victoria. "in fact they mess with your heart, if you drink too many"
"see, that? that's why i think you should relax"
Victoria studied the can, before cracking it open and drinking fully half. "Jesus crash you really do need to relax. tell you what, i was gonna go to bar, tonight. want to come?"
Victoria, whose stomach roiled with both the result of downing half a can monster and also, a little, butterfly's, for reasons she refused to acknowledge, nodded at the request. "sure"
"cool, meet me by the back entrance at the end of the shift" said Trinity, wondering off to a woman who had attempted to pierce her septum with a piercing gun and was now reaping the consequences.
-
trying came back at quarter to 8. Victoria wasn't surprised by the lateness. everyone knew she was struggling with her charting and 5 minutes before Victoria had seen her at the nurses station writing. she had even brought trin a coffee, who had said "thanks crash but if im getting wasted im not wasting space on caffeine"
Trinity was in cargo pants, an off the shoulder t shirt of style she seemed to favour (Victoria remembered a similar one) and a thick gold chain.
"is ummm…Garcia not coming too"
"we're…no, not tonight" Trinity said, looking at a shoes, uncharacteristically bashful, but the moment passed and she said with, Victoria thought later, extra bravado. "but fuck that cos we're gonna get wasted!"
Victoria felt her eyes go wide. "don't worry crash, I'll look after you" she said, taking her by the hand and dragging her away before the black hole of the Pitt took them both. Victoria suppressed the urge to look back, lest she like some how caused a doom like Orpheus when he turned back
-
the bar was quietly busy Victoria thought. no one would call it dead, but it wasn't exactly crushed wall to wall. Victoria looked from seat to seat, booth to booth. the occupants of the bar seemed very…feminine
"is this a lesbian bar?"
"best in the city crash, and you can let your hair down and no one will try to get you, except maybe a hot butch, but ive got you claimed if it happens" said Trinity and she walked to bar.
"got you claimed" made the butterfly's in her tummy reappear. she didn't want to look at them, feel them. it felt forbidden to examine the feelings they were about, somehow. she looked at Trinity hand in hers as she was dragged to the bar and felt a flush creeping up her neck. this was so nice, and mayb-
"hey crash, earth to crash"
"yes, hey, hi" said crash, the spell broken
"lost yourself? i said what do you want to drink"
"ohh…ummm…"
"alcohol?"
"yes, but im not sure…"
"strawberry daiquiri, lemon drop, and a beer, something nice" said Trinity. "daiquiri for you. its a nice way to start an evening" she said smiling, before they collected there drinks and found a booth
-
Victoria was now 4 daiquiris in. Trinity had drink her lemon drop fast and was now nursing her third beer. Trinity seemed a lot more composed then Victoria felt.
"im 21 Trinity. 21, and ive never even kissed. i mean, ive kissed my parents, and like…my aunt, but Trinity! 21 one and ive never kissed…kissed anything"
"not a boy, even at school" said Trinity, looking at Victoria with an eye that Victoria couldn't read
"no…not any boy. not Mateo. and now his night shift Trinity."
"not even a girl? to practice"
"triniittttty" said Victoria, the word coming out as a whine. "i don't want to kiss a girl to practice" Trinity's face shifted for a second but Victoria ploughed on. "i want to kiss a girl for reaaal." she swirled around the dregs of the daiquiri.
"for real?"
"yesssss. i even have a crush on a girl"
"oh? who is it? Ellis is pretty hot" said Trinity in a way that suggested she wouldn't mind kissing Ellis herself. Victoria made a face. "you cant kiss Ellis"
"why can't i kiss Ellis Victoria. she's hot"
"because i want to kiss you" Said Victoria, in a whine, the butterflys surprised by a lot of alcohol. she hadn't ever said it out loud, not even alone, but now she seemed to have no barrier between her hormones and her mouth. "i mean…ummm…uhhh"
Trinity smiled. not the cat like smile Victoria recognised when she wanted to do some surgery, or when she was teasing Ogilvy, but sweeter. the kind she saved for kids, or for her or mel or huckleberry when they had a bad day.
Trinity got up, came around, and put her finger under Victoria's chin, lifting it. what was happening. what was this. wha-
Trinity lips met hers. they were soft, and gentle. the butterflies in tummy returned, but she lent in. it was everything she had hoped for. Trinity parted gently. "your really cute crash. and if you weren't so drunk i would see if you wanted more. but for now, you deserve a kiss, with someone who isn't your aunt."
a second kiss followed, just as gently, and Victoria felt herself melt. it finally broke. "now, i think you need to crash crash. let talk more about this when your sober" Trinity chuckled at her own bad joke. "come on". she took Victoria's hand again, and gently dragged her out of the bar. Victoria thought she saw the bartender mouth at Trinity the word "jealous"
-
the romance of the evening was shattered when, on her way to Trinity's Sofa, Victoria broke vomited up at least one daiquiri, as Trinity held her hair back, patted her back and promised water. Victoria felt slightly mortified at it, but she knew, tonight, vomiting and all, would be a memory she would tressure for her first kiss.
and her second.
