Augustus laid awake.
He couldn't sleep. He wasn't necessarily sleepy at all. He laid wide awake on his side, Pippin tucked under an arm of his as he slept peacefully. Augustus liked watching him whenever he couldn't sleep— Pippin looked so carefree and peaceful whenever he'd slept. It comforted him, in a way.
Augustus gave up on trying to sleep around an hour ago. By now, he was just silently listening to the rain patter against the windows and the occasional, distant lightning strike. He liked this— one of Pippin's legs tossed carelessly over August's hip, both of Pippin's arms wrapped loosely around his shoulders mixed with the tranquility of the ambience.
Pippin didn't snore. Barely made a sound, really. Just soft breathing, is all. Augustus tucked a stray, curly hair from Pippin's face carefully as to not wake him, resting his hand on the Hobbit's cheek. Augustus would likely drop dead if he woke up now— since he wasn't much for expressing affection so openly, much less with such a notoriously teasing Hobbit that is Peregrin Took.
Augustus simply watched Pip's face with half-lidded eyes— not because he was tired or anything. This was the look of love. Augustus continued to admire Pippin's sleeping face with utter adoration, before a loud lightning struck not too far away— loud enough to jolt them both— loud enough to force the Hobbit to awaken, letting out a surprised, slightly confused yelp.
"Just thunder," Augustus murmured as Pippin, shaken to the core, jumped up slightly and looked around. "Don't worry." The rain pattered and hit the window rather harshly now. A storm — not a dangerous or concerning storm, just a harsh one. Pippin looked down at Augustus' face and relaxed slightly before slowly settling back down into his former position.
"You look like ya haven't got any sleep," Pippin remarked with a sleep-laced voice, with that accent of his. Augustus let out a hum. "Can't sleep." He stated, "I'll be fine." August wrapped an arm around Pippin's waist lightly, pulling him back close.
Pippin huffed, amused. He grinned that tookish, usual grin of his and said; "You know, that means someone's thinking about you." Augustus raised a brow. "You're utterly childish, you know?"
"Aye." Pippin simply agreed, settling back against Augustus' chest. Pippin took in a deep breath, before letting out a long exhale— almost relieved. "Somethin' botherin' you, August?" Pippin glanced up sleepily, concerned. August shook his head— firm no. Pippin wrapped his arms around August's waist and pouted slightly. "Are ya lyin'?" Pippin pressed.
"I'm not lying." Augustus remarked. "The only thing bothering me right now, is you." He sassed. Pippin simply chuckled and placed a soft, light kiss against Augustus' lips. "Cheeky.." He murmured— Pippin only found it amusing as his grin grew even wider. Augustus' hands found purchase on the Hobbit's hips and he pulled him closer, pressing his lips firmly against Pippin's forehead for a solid half minute.
Pipping giggled softly under his breath, catching August's lips with his own whilst grinning. He gently caressed both of Augustus' cheeks, brushing a stray strand away, pulling away with a loud, obnoxious 'mwah'. Pippin grinned up at August happily. For a second, August just held comfortable eye contact with his beloved hobbit, lips parted slightly, before he crashed his lips back down onto his.
His arms wrapped tightly around Pippin's hips, one hand traveling up his back to the back of his head, tangling itself into his curly hair. Augustus pulled away, barely an inch, resting his forehead against the shorter boy's. Pippin look dazed— eyes glazed over, lips slightly parted. Augustus put his hand on Pippin's chin, tilting his head upwards— whilst Pippin leaned in again, pressing his chest against August's.
Their heartsbeats thudded together, their heart rates spontaneously falling into the same rhythm as they fumbled around, tangling limb with limb. Pippin's plump, soft and rather pillowy lips felt nice against Augustus', and he couldn't help but lean further into the kiss. Pippin tilted his head slightly to the side.
The two could've went on forever if they could, though the lack of oxygen would kill them before they could continue— they both lightly pulled away, lips parted as they panted and huffed. Pippin held eye contact— searching for something in the taller boy's eyes, though unsure what he was searching for, he suddenly grinned once more and started laughing, a booming, heartily laugh.
Pippin had laughed so hard, he curled in slightly, hands firmly planted on Augustus' shoulders as to ground himself as the boy simply stared at his sudden display of amusement. "What's this about?" Augustus raised an eyebrow. "You're terrible," Pippin said through laughs. Augustus' other brow shot up at his blunt statement. "Not like that!" Pippin laughed even harder at that; He hadn't meant the kiss at all, but it seems that flew over August's head. "Aye, you're hopeless," He giggled, trying to calm himself.
Augustus huffed in amusement, a small smile gracing his lips, though subtle. "YOU'RE hopeless." Pippin snorted, a soft snort of laughter as he raised his hand slightly and landed a weak, rather feather-light playful punch against his chest. "Quit it—" He choked out, as another set of shuddering giggles overtook him, "You’re gonna wake the whole lot of 'em if you keep making me laugh!"
"Oh, so I'm the cause, now? Not my terrible kissing skills?" Augustus teased. "I never said it was terrible!" Pippin insisted, still giggling, Whilst they continued with their back and forth — with Pippin trying to stop giggling and failing entirely — Eventually, a soft light streamed into the room signaling the beginning of today. A harsh ray of light hit Augustus' eyes as he shielded himself with his arm, humming softly. "Dawn's here,"
Pippin let out an 'ahem' as he'd finally calmed himself down, shifting onto his back and holding himself up by resting on his elbows. Colors bled into the dark sky, painting it with a lovely violet and rose and eventually a fiery gold. The two stayed quiet as the wind lightly picked up, the rain from earlier now gently decorating leaves with lovely drops of water, creating a gentle rhythm. Pippin suddenly swiftly spun to face Augustus, "Say, did you sleep at all?"
Augustus was pulled out of his thoughts abruptly, focusing his gaze on Pippin. He shook his head, no. "Won't get much further with no sleep, I reckon." Pippin remarked, bobbing his head down with a raised eyebrow. Augustus dismissed his playful concern. "I'll be fine." "Mm. No, won't be." Pippin mumbled, settling back down comfortably on the chaos that was supposed to resemble a bed— one blanket half on the floor as the two boys had shared one blanket for reasons no one shall know, and a handful of pillows.
He crossed his legs, one leg resting horizontally on the lower leg whilst he put his arms behind his head, that unabashed, trademark smile of his decorating his face. Augustus never understood how he'd always managed to keep a smile on his face in all situations. Augustus sat up, hunched over— clear sign of exhaustion— and stretched as he yawned.
"See? Right there." Pippin exclaimed as August let out another yawn. "Exhausted, you are. I'll tell you that!" He insisted. "No use in sleeping now." Augustus fought back. "Never late enough for a good sleep, I say." Pippin continued pestering the boy, his usual Hobbit logic influencing his speech. Augustus yawned, again. Pippin's nose scrunched up slightly. "You sure are yawning lots." He huffed.
"Yes. Quite surprising, huh? Almost like I had no sleep." Augustus sassed him with dry wit. Pippin giggled. The taller boy settled back down, tugging the blanket up to his shoulder as he turned to his side, his back facing Pippin. Pippin, unbothered, simply took hold of his wooden pipe and prepared it for a good smoking, to which Augustus mumbled; "If you're goin' to smoke, do it near a window."
A giggle bubbled up and escaped Pippin's lips, a glint of mischief hidden in his wide eyes. "Whatever you say."
