    Summary

The truth of it all was gnawing at him: Shane had been bad for the locker room in Montreal. He had made people uncomfortable. And it was homophobia at the root of it, sure, but he’d been the problem. Before he’d come out, things had been fine. After, it was a shitshow.
So, as the new season approached, a different logo on Shane’s jersey, his shoulder missing the C it had held for almost ten years, one thing was clear: Shane couldn’t let that happen on the Centaurs.
Which was why today, media day, mattered so much. Shane needed to make a good impression. He needed to be viewed as a teammate, not a liability or a mascot. He needed to be fucking normal.

    ***

It should be a fairy tale, to play on the same NHL team as your husband, with a supportive team excited to have you. Shane knows that. If only his mind could get with the program.
