The Flower Shop on the Corner

Summary:

Basically some one-shots of a deltarune au i have where basically the entire deltarune cast lives in a new york city-type area.
Very flower (specifically Blue and Yellow) centric since im HEAVILY fixated on them
(I guess it’s not ENTIRELY one-shots since some chapters will have a rough plotline, but whatever)

Work Text:

Yellow sat at the front desk of Flower King, motionless. It had been a fairly calm day. Not many customers, which is normally considered to be a good thing. However, today, Yellow would rather have the stress of a crowd of customers buying mountains of bouquets than be stuck obsessing over bills and rent. Of which he didn’t have enough money to pay for that month.

Yellow didn’t have much money on hand. He really only ever had enough for groceries and the monthly bills that come with living in an apartment. Not to mention that working at Flower King was really his only job, since he couldn’t really ever keep one. And that alone wasn’t enough to keep up.

And it mattered all the more now, considering his rent had been increased for some reason, and it bothered Yellow immensely. If he couldn’t pay for rent, he’d be kicked out. And if he was kicked out, he wouldn’t have any place to live. And if he didn’t have anywhere to live, then he’d probably die and it’d be his fault for using his money wrong-

“Yellow? Yellow, dear, are you okay?” He flinched at the sudden voice, before calming down.

“Huh? Oh, uh, howdy Blue.”

Blue was someone Yellow would consider a friend. He worked part-time at Flower King, the other half at a local ballet studio. Blue would often keep Yellow company during the time the he was there, which made Yellow’s shifts less stressful. They’d often talk about their lives, their interests, stuff of the sort, to the point where they got each other’s numbers to talk more. (And he was also gorgeous. Like drop-dead gorgeous. Sometimes Yellow would stare at Blue when he wasn’t looking.)

“You’ve been sitting here for a while now. What’s troubling you so?”

The flower stared down the floor. “…I’m gonna die, Blue.”

“…What?”

“I’m gonna die on tha streets cuz I used ma’ money wrong.”

Blue looked around anxiously before regaining composure. “Dear, what happened?”

“I donts got enough money to pay rent this month. Tha owner of my apartmeant increased tha price. And I aints got enough ta pay for that.” He was visibly shaking at this point. “And I’s gonna get kicked out, and then I aints gonna hava place ta stay and I’s gonna die and it’ll be ma fault and I aints ever gonna see ya again and-“

“Yellow. Relax.” Blue placed his hand on Yellow’s shoulder. “Breath.”

“O-okay.” He took a few breaths, grounding himself in reality as much as he could in that moment.

“Better?”

“Yeah.”

“So, you don’t have the money to pay for rent this month, correct?”

“Yeah.”

“And if you don’t pay it, you’ll get evicted?”

“That’s right. I’m sorry, Blue, I-“

“There’s no reason to be sorry, dear. Nothing is your fault.”

“But I aint’s got the money ta pay up! That’s ma fault! I oughta be a criminell for that..”

“Not having the money to pay rent isn’t your fault. Did you make the landlord increase the price of rent?”

“…No.” The flower paused. “…But I’m stills gonna die cuz I aint’s gonna got no home an’ no money.”

Blue was silent for a bit before responding. “You could always stay at my place.”

“Huh?”

“Of course, it’d cost more for two people living in the same home, but I don’t want to leave you in the situation in. Especially if you do get evicted. And it’d be nice to talk more.”

Yellow was stunned. He’d never had someone offer something like…this, nor had he expected it at all. He knew Blue was nice, but not THIS nice.

“I…I couldn’t do that to ya, Blue! I wouldn’t be a good ruemate, an’ I wouldnt be able to pay for much.”

“Well, we all start somewhere don’t we? Even if you can’t pay for rent or bills or any of the sort at the moment, I won’t get mad. And I’ll help whenever necessary.”

“I…um. Can I, think about it?” He fidgeted with his sleeve, his face a deep shade of orange (for some reason that he couldn’t figure out).

“Of course, Yellow.” Blue smiled warmly (That beautyful smile that made Yellow’s brain go all funky). “Let me know what you’ve made a decision.”

“Yeah, I can do that.”

“Do you want me to stay here?”

“Dont’cha got a shift at the thingy ya work at soon? I dont want ya ta skip work cuz of me.“

“Well, since I work here, I can just take a longer shift. And I could just say something came up that prevented me from going today, which is technically true.”

“I mean…I guess, if ya want to.”

And soon, what had been a stressful day turned into one of the best days Yellow had had in a while. And when he went home for the night, he already knew what he would text Blue next.
