Chapter Text
No one knew how it began or what had caused the Great Ambush—that’s what all us leftovers can agree on. No one can even remember their rightful names after the seed of their ideas rotted and sprouted inside ourselves without realizing it. Some said it happened because of humankind's curiosity and naivety…that the old Golden Record had finally reached another organisms’ hand—only the one with the wrong intentions.
But I think they knew about us all this time. That they had waited for Earth to get vulnerable… desperate… ugly… messy… a foot away from the cliff of our own extinction.
And when that finally happened, they excitedly grouped together and took over our previous home that we've been hurting.
I can only agree that it happened. That even before the war ended, the beings were already changing everything human hands created for centuries. Many countries fell as many humans did. Perhaps the smartest idea humanity had during the Ambush was to create as many spacecraft as possible to leave our home, and to live off scraps on another planet. Well…only 45% of us managed to get into those spacecrafts, but even then, the division was still alive and 15% of them fled to a different country as revenge starving creatures.
The rest of us— the 55%, were called leftovers for them to play with. The elderly fell, the rebels hid, the ones found fell with the elderly, as well as those who wield strong minds. Children however…were cherished in a way they cherished accessories…pets…objects.
