Summary
In 2049, the dying are allowed five hours a week in Afterglow—a virtual seaside city where time periods are decorative, bodies are optional, and the dead can live forever if they choose to upload.
Phuwin visits every Saturday at 11:00 p.m.
He tells himself it is only for dancing.
Only for old music.
Only for one more night inside a body that does not ache.
Then he meets Pond beneath neon lights in a 1980s-themed club, where Pond looks too handsome, too lonely, and too alive for a place built for ghosts.
Pond says he is only visiting.
Phuwin says he does not believe in forever.
They lie to each other tragically.
Every week, they meet again. They dance through decades, steal time from machines, fall in love under artificial stars, and pretend morning will not come for either of them.
But Afterglow keeps its own secrets.
And love, even in a place where no one has to die twice, still has to ask the hardest question:
