Work Text:
You never believed in stories about parallel universes.
Or portals.
Or talking skeletons.
Actually...
Your biggest concern at that moment was deciding what to make for dinner.
It was just another normal day.
Until...
FRESH POOF!
A colorful flash lit up the room.
Confetti flew across your apartment.
You jumped.
— What?!
You rushed into the living room.
Stopped at the doorway.
Blinking.
On your couch was a skeleton.
Colorful 90s-style clothes.
Flashy sneakers.
Dark sunglasses.
The lenses displayed:
[YOLO]
He waved.
— Yo, brah.
You looked at him.
Then at the confetti scattered across the floor.
Then back at him.
Silence.
He waited a few seconds.
His glasses changed.
[BRUH]
— Everything good?
You took a deep breath.
— No.
— Oh. - He looked around the room.
His glasses changed.
[RAD]
— Pretty radical place.
You stayed still.
— There is... a skeleton on my couch.
Fresh looked behind him.
Like he was searching for another skeleton.
There was no one else.
He looked back at you.
— You're talking about me?
You pointed directly at him.
— Who else would I be talking about?
Fresh smiled.
— Fair, brah.
You rubbed your eyes.
When you looked again...
He was still there.
Sitting comfortably.
Like he owned the place.
— Who are you?
— Fresh.
You waited.
— ...Just Fresh?
He shrugged.
— Yep.
You took another deep breath.
— How did you get here?
Fresh looked at the door.
Then the window.
Then the ceiling.
His glasses changed.
[IDRK]
He scratched the back of his head.
— Good question.
You blinked.
— You... don't know?
— I was just walking around, brah.
He made a vague gesture with his hand.
A small colorful distortion appeared in the air for a moment.
Then disappeared.
— And...
He shrugged.
— Ended up here.
You looked at where the distortion had appeared.
— That doesn't explain anything.
Fresh just smiled.
— It explains enough for me.
You stayed silent for a few seconds, trying to understand how that was supposed to be an acceptable answer.
— Of course it does for you...
His glasses returned to:
[YOLO]
Fresh tilted his head.
— Do you always think this much?
You let out a small sigh.
— Do you always break into people's houses?
Fresh thought for a few seconds.
— Sometimes.
— Sometimes?!
— Depends.
You crossed your arms.
— Depends on what?
Fresh answered like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
— The universe.
You frowned.
— ...The universe?
His glasses changed.
[BRUH]
— Oh...
A pause.
— You don't know.
You stayed quiet.
Fresh simply nodded.
— Makes sense, brah.
You looked at the confetti scattered across the floor.
None of it seemed willing to explain what was happening.
Fresh, on the other hand...
Looked completely comfortable.
His glasses changed.
[COOL]
— I like this couch.
You closed your eyes for a moment.
When you opened them...
Fresh was still sitting in the exact same place.
Like he actually planned to stay.
You had known that skeleton for less than ten minutes.
And you had already understood one thing.
Fresh wasn't trying to be strange.
To him...
All of this was completely normal.
The problem...
Was that, for the first time in your life...
Your definition of "normal" had just walked out the window.
