“You have a family, Buck,” Eddie says. “A baby.”
Buck’s eyes flash. “What are you saying, Eddie?” he asks. “What, that I—I’m not thinking about Lucas and Chris? About you? You think I’m not trying to get back home to you?” He shakes his head. “You have a monopoly on that or what?”
“No,” Eddie answers, scrambling. “That’s not— but— I’m not the one coming home an hour late all scraped up.”
Buck rolls his eyes, and something flashes through Eddie’s chest, threatening to climb into his throat.
“Like this couldn’t happen to you just as easily as me,” Buck says.
