Chapter Text

It was a simple day in Riverwood, you were helping your sister, Gerdur, with the lumber mill when suddenly Ralof came running to you two. He had been gone for months, helping Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak with the rebellion.

“Oh by Talos, thank goodness you two are alright.” He muttered as he hugged Gerdur and kissed your head.

“Ralof! What happened? I heard Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak was captured.” Gerdur exclaimed, the worry for her little brother already growing.

“Aye…we were captured and brought to Helgen to be executed. I thought that was the end when-”

“When what Ralof?” You interrupted quickly, eyes widening.

“When a dragon appeared.” Silence enveloped you three and a look of horror appeared on you and Gerdurs faces.

“A..dragon? A live dragon?” Gerdur muttered, shaking her head. “Hod! Come on down!!”

The next hours passed with all of you sitting in Gerdur and Hods home, Ralof explaining what had happened while sipping on a tankard of mead.

“I saw it fly this way and..” Ralof sighed and stared down at the mead in his tankard. “I prayed to all Nine Divines you two weren't hurt. I don't know what I'd do if a dragon burnt down Riverwood as it did Helgen.” Gerdur frowned at his words and nodded, sighing heavily before speaking.

“Riverwood is defenseless. If a dragon comes..I'd like to not think of what would happen. Someone needs to tell Jarl Balgruuf.”

“I can.” You offered immediately, voice a little strained. “I was going to Whiterun anyway to meet an old friend.” Ralof and Gerdur looked at you silently with the judging eyes of older siblings.

“Are you sure? With a dragon on the loose-”

“It is not even a days travel. I will be fine. If a dragon does appear then the guards will be able to see it from Whiterun!” You countered immediately, staring up at Gerdur. Always a protective older sister to both Ralof and you.

“Fine..but you just be home by the 19th of Last Seed. Two days.”

“Yes Gerdur, I promise.” With that Gerdur let out a reluctant sigh before looking back up at Ralof.

“And you. Be careful. I don't want-”

“Yes, Gerdur,” Ralof groaned and laughed weakly, “I will be safe. I'll lay low here until it is safe for me to go back to Windhelm.”
