Work Text:

It was a Sunday afternoon in the beautiful city of Sydney, where two young men, Carlos and Oscar, were having their first date after talking for a long time at school.

They were walking through a park, and it was clear the date was about to end when Oscar asked a question.

"Would you like to come to my house? We could spend more time together, and I could introduce you to my cat."

"I... I can't," Carlos said, telling a little white lie. He was embarrassed to go to the house of the boy he liked on their first date. "Um... I..." He started thinking of a possible excuse. "...I'm allergic to cats," he blurted out quickly, without thinking.

"Oh... that's a shame. Then I'll walk you home," Oscar said, a little surprised by what he'd just heard, since that hadn't come up in any of their conversations.

"I don't want to bother you... Besides, I have to get home early," Carlos replied, embarrassed by the situation.

"Well, it's okay, but before you go, I want to give you something..." Oscar said as he approached Carlos.

You could feel the youthful tension between them. Oscar gently wrapped an arm around Carlos's waist and kissed him on the lips. The kiss lasted longer than either of them realized.

Carlos was stunned, and all he managed to say was, "G-Goodbye, Oscar." He ran off, leaving Oscar standing there with a smile.

Carlos got home, and all he could do was go to his room and throw himself onto his bed. He couldn't stop thinking about what had just happened. He had gone on a date and shared a kiss with the person he liked most, but he had lied. He wasn't allergic to anything; it was simply the first excuse that came to mind because he was too embarrassed to go to Oscar's house. He ruffled his hair in frustration, trying to forget what he'd done.

Then he went through his normal nighttime routine, but before going to sleep, he decided to talk to his friend Alex about what had happened.

"Wait... Did you lie to him about being allergic to cats?" Alex asked. He couldn't help but laugh. "Sorry, I just can't believe you said that. Dude... you're an idiot", he said before laughing again.

"Ugh... I know!! But I got nervous and couldn't think of another excuse." Carlos flopped face down onto his bed, as if that would somehow help. Then he sat up and ran his hands through his hair. "I don't know what I'm going to do tomorrow. I feel bad for lying to him," he said, the last words carrying a hint of sadness.

"Look... it could have been worse," Alex said, trying to cheer him up. "It's not like you told some huge lie... it's just a little white lie that slipped out. Someday you'll tell him, 'Oh, my dear Oscar, it was just a little white lie that slipped out.'" He imitated Carlos's voice before continuing, "'Oh, my love, you're such a silly boy. I love you just the same.'" He exaggerated Oscar's voice dramatically. "See? It'll happen. Don't worry, okay?"

"Hmm... you're right. Thanks for listening. See you at school tomorrow?" Carlos said as he lay back down, hoping to get as much sleep as possible.

"Yep, see you tomorrow. Dream about your dear Oscar," Alex teased before hanging up.

The months passed. What started with a first date turned into many more. Movie dates, walks after school, calls that lasted until dawn... Without even realizing it, Carlos and Oscar had started dating.

As their relationship grew, they naturally started visiting each other's houses. Carlos just couldn't find the right moment to tell Oscar about his lie. Every time he thought about it, he got nervous, imagining the worst. Alex had told him to calm down and tell the truth, but he still couldn't bring himself to do it... until one day.

It was a Friday afternoon. They had finished another week of school, and what better way to celebrate than spending time together?

"Want to come over today?" Oscar asked as they walked hand in hand through the city. The sun was beginning to set.

Carlos thought, This is it. He didn't want to keep lying anymore. After taking a deep breath, he finally gathered enough courage to speak.

"I have something to confess," he said, too embarrassed to look Oscar in the eye.

"Oh...? What's wrong, my love?" Oscar asked curiously.

"I'm... not allergic to cats." Carlos finally looked into his boyfriend's eyes. "I panicked when you invited me over. I got so nervous that I just blurted out the first excuse I could think of."

After that, there was silence. They stopped walking.

Oscar stood there in shock, trying to process what he'd just heard.

The silence only made Carlos even more nervous. His mind was already imagining every possible scenario in which Oscar would never want to see him again.

But before he could say anything else, he heard a laugh.

It was Oscar.

He was laughing at his confession.

"You... lied? Carlos... were you worried about that this whole time?" he asked in disbelief.

"Yes..." Carlos answered, his cheeks burning with embarrassment. "I'm sorry. I know I did something wrong, but I didn't do it for bad reasons. Please don't stop loving me, okay?"

Oscar couldn't help but smile. He stepped closer, wrapped his arms around Carlos in a warm hug, and gently pinched one of his cheeks.

"Oh, my love... you're so sweet. If that's the biggest lie you've ever told me, I think we're doing just fine."

After that heartfelt confession, the two of them went to Oscar's house, where the most important meeting in the world finally took place:

Carlos met the cat.

At first, the cat didn't seem very interested. She walked over to Oscar, who picked her up so Carlos could pet her.

Carlos let her sniff his hand first, and when he saw that she wasn't scared, he gently stroked her fur while telling her how adorable she was.

Oscar watched the whole scene with a grin before saying,

"Wow... your allergy recovered pretty fast, my love."

Carlos immediately turned bright red and buried his face against his boyfriend's shoulder while Oscar laughed softly.

"Oh... shut up."

Meanwhile, completely unaware that she had been the cause of months of unnecessary worry, the kitten purred contentedly in Oscar's arms as Carlos continued petting her.
