Chapter Text
It was a beautiful morning, the weather perfect for going outside and playing soccer for hours until nightfall and Isagi's mother texted him asking what time he'd be home.
Isagi was sitting on a park bench, wearing athletic clothes, sweating from playing, and eating an ice cream cone. Rin was sitting next to him, his face contorted in obvious irritation, a half-eaten sweet roll in his hand.
"I'm surprised you didn't want an ice cream too. Shidou told me you loved them," Isagi remarked, turning to look at Rin, who was staring into space.
"I'm not in the mood for ice cream today," the younger boy replied steadily, still eating his roll.
Isagi made a puppy-dog face. "Are you in a bad mood?" he asked, very curious.
"No, shut up," Rin replied, still not looking at the boy sitting next to him. "Can we go back to playing now?" Now he finally looked into the blue eyes.
Isagi laughs, the sound echoing in Rin's head, swallowing hard, his cheeks and ears turning slightly pink.
"What a pain, Rin!" Isagi says, smiling. But he immediately gets up to continue playing. The taller boy gets up to join him, but feels a pain in his lower back and pauses for a moment.
Isagi notices. Of course he notices, the damn idiot is extremely observant!
"Everything alright?"
"Yes."
They stare at each other, Rin annoyed and Isagi confused.
They play until 8 o'clock and Sae calls Rin, ordering him to go home. Rin sighs, says a very brief goodbye to Isagi, and leaves.
Isagi is left thinking. Today Rin played much more aggressively. And, of course, ever since he met the boy, he'd always been aggressive, but this aggression was different. It was like he was letting off steam, but not emotionally, basically.
Isagi sighed, decided he was overthinking it, and headed home, excited for dinner.
The next day, he texted the turquoise-eyed boy, asking if he wanted to play again. Rin replied, "Screw him and leave him alone for a day," but then responded again, saying Sae wouldn't let him go out that day. Like an idiot, Isagi said, "Then I'll come over to your place." When Rin replied after about five minutes with "Whatever," Isagi ran out of the house.
At home, Rin was lying in bed, a stuffed animal on his stomach, the TV on, Friday the 13th playing in the background, while he played some stupid horror game on his tablet. His hair was messy, and he was wearing tight shorts and a loose t-shirt.
The day before, when he got home, he'd gotten his period. And to Rin's misfortune, his periods were painful. They're uncomfortable, the cramps are intense, and everything irritates him, and to make matters worse, they're irregular!
Yesterday, he realized he was getting close, but Isagi had been pestering him to go out and play for a while now, and Rin was already eager to get rid of that.
They replied to those messages in annoyance, forgetting how intense that little guy was.
When there was a knock at the door, Rin thought it was his idiot brother, who had forgotten his new keys. He would leave him outside, abandon him just like he had done, but he would feel guilty, and it would ruin his day even more than just seeing his face. So, he got up with a groan and walked toward the front door.
He opened the door aggressively, and instead of seeing his brother standing in front of him, he saw Isagi.
An Isagi.
ISAGI?!
Isagi's face was red, his eyes fixed on the taller boy's thighs.
Rin noticed, and with his face redder than the other, he slammed the door in his face.
"Ri-Rin?!" Isagi reacted, embarrassed.
"What the hell are you doing here, idiot?" Rin asked, confused, irritated, and much more embarrassed than the annoying Isagi.
"You told me I could come!" the mayor replied. And damn it, he had, and he didn't know what Isagi was expecting. He's such a pushover! Of course he was going to come if Isagi told him to "do whatever you want," because Isagi really did do whatever he wanted, and Rin felt so stupid and so embarrassed. The pain was probably affecting his brain. And speaking of pain, his legs were starting to give way, trembling from the immense pain in his stomach.
Rin sighed. He could take advantage of Isagi being there and ask him to go to the pharmacy to buy cramp pills. He could ask him for help. But he was too proud of that.
He opens the door again.
"Isagi," he says, irritated. Isagi just glances up, looking nervous.
"Hello." His voice is small, as if he's afraid. "Mmm," is the response he gets, along with Rin's hands on his wrist, pulling him inside.
"Since you came all the way here," he says, letting go of Isagi and walking to the kitchen, grabbing an empty pill packet. "Go to the pharmacy and get me one of these." He hands the small packet to Isagi.
"Oh. Okay. Do you need anything else?" he asks, his face now cheerful, with a gentle smile. Rin thinks about it for a moment. He was craving some hot chocolate.
Isagi continues to look at him, expectant. The younger boy sighs, giving in to his cravings. "Get a chocolate bar, it's for making hot chocolate." He pushes the shorter boy out of his house, saying something about "hurry up, there's a pharmacy nearby," but Isagi doesn't hear; he's too excited to help.
After 30 minutes of waiting, Isagi returns from the pharmacy. He knocks on the door, and Rin shouts "it's open!" from inside. Once inside, Isagi hands him the bag with the supplies.
"Thanks," Rin murmurs, a little embarrassed. But Isagi is a bit too distracted.
Rin is settled on the couch, with a plush owl in his lap ("I wish it were me," he thinks but doesn't say), still wearing those blessed shorts, too short and too tight, and the baggy t-shirt that is, by the way, adorable, with a picture of fucking Pochacco printed on it. His face is slightly flushed, and for the first (and probably last) time, his gaze is gentle towards Isagi.
Rin growls, kicking Isagi, who was still standing in front of him. "What are you staring at, you damn creep?" he says, his face defiant (Isagi can't help but think he looks like a grumpy kitten).
"N-Nothing..." he says nervously, mentally cursing himself for stuttering. Isagi sits down next to the younger boy. His face is red, while Rin swallows a pill without water. He wants to say something, but seriously, he can't concentrate.
Rin looks at him curiously. But ignores him, as always. Instead of asking about his behavior, he grabs the TV remote and puts on a movie, a horror movie, of course, without even asking Isagi if he wants to watch it. (And no matter how much he complains, Isagi would watch anything if it's with Rin). But Isagi doesn't complain.
The silence is comfortable, even warm, something he hadn't felt in years, something he only felt with Sae. With that damn Sae.
Rin sighs, moving closer to Isagi. They fall silent; there are no more nerves or embarrassment, just the two of them in silence, watching a film that's far too violent and bloody, yet filled with a sweet and warm atmosphere. And they both fall asleep on the couch, shoulder to shoulder.
