Summary
You were the prodigy of the Survey Corps. The right hand of Erwin Smith. The captain of your own elite squad. The Golden Girl. The best soldier the Corps had ever seen. Life was simple: train, fight, survive.
That was, until he showed up.
Levi. Another new recruit, another kid Erwin had plucked from the Underground, just like you. He was a quiet but cocky soldier, whose skills unfortunately could keep up with his mouth. You felt as though he had been placed under your supervision with the sheer aim of provoking you. He was just a lousy scout who needed to learn his place.
That should’ve been the end of it.
But maybe it was the way he watched you, like he knew there were cracks in your armor, and if he looked close enough he'd see them. Maybe it was that he was the only person to actually challenge you. Or maybe it was just that, for the first time in years, you cared for someone other than yourself.
Whatever it was, you were too curious for your own good.
And you could only keep up the detached act for so long.
