Chapter Text
Amity Park's Casper High is currently on a school trip to Gotham. Sam had not been shy about leaning on her family's money to make sure that is the city they went to. While the large group of teens are being lead through the city on their way to the next destination for their trip, Sam and Tucker begin to get into an argument about gargoyles versus grotesques.
"Foley, Manson! Get up here." Lancer yells at them to bring them up to the front of the group so he can deal with them.
Which happens to be their plan to try and give Danny a chance to slip away from the group so he can try to get some things set up for that night. Dash however throws a wrench into their plan by shoving the smaller teen into an alley. The bully laughs extra hard as Danny slips on something and clips a dumpster with his head.
By the time the teen's awareness comes back into focus the group is far enough away that he has completely lost track of them. Reaching up he can tell he has a concussion, and has forgotten exactly why he was trying to break away from the others from his school. Frowning, he attempts to Go Ghost only to recall that Vlad had hit him with a modified Plasmius Maximus what will prevent him from changing his forms for an extended period of time. Though he does have access to his intangibility which was why he was going to go... do... he still can't remember.
Sighing and shaking his head, he tries to recall where the next place was supposed to be but can't remember. Deciding to just head back to his hotel, he looks around to get his bearings before heading off. In the wrong direction, but very confidently doing so. The fact that he keeps taking random alleyways allow Fenton Luck to meet up with him once more in the form of someone trying to mug him.
After allowing the knife they try to stab him with to simply phase through him, he just quickly knocks the thug out rather than deal with them.
Cass was just a little bored. A little earlier she swung by Wayne Enterprises to bother Bruce and Tim just a little but there was a high school group that they were busy with so her plan was a bust. While there she picked up on a scent that kept finding and teasing her blood thirst. Luckily she had her usual supply of specially made candies from Alfred to help her keep it it in check.
Changing her plans, she heads to a bakery that has really delicious cupcakes. Enjoying a couple she is making her way to a cafe when the scent finds her once more. Fresh enough that it has her looking around until she spots a teen slightly stumbling from one alley to another. Now very curious as to why he is on his own when last she detected him he was a part of a group so she begins to follow him.
Her hunting instincts perking up as she adjusts her pace and direction towards the alley.
Danny feels his Ghost Sense trigger, something that he has felt close to happening a few times already. He's not sure if it is simply a Ghost finally getting close enough to him or if maybe it are Spirits who have not quite made the transition over to being Ghosts just yet. Though, whatever is the reason, he can feel someone watching him.
Continuing to make his way through various alleys, he figures he must be close to the hotel. While in one of the alleyways, he feels a hand on his arm so he spins around with a haymaker. This thug has decent reactions as they duck under his attack so he plants his left foot and uses his right for a snap kick.
However his attack effortlessly catches his leg before using it as leverage to force him back against a wall. As she is grabbing his hands in one of hers and pinning them above his head, he notices that her face is really blurry and wonders if that is something she can do or if his concussion is messing with his vision. Her head comes in close to his as she takes a deep breath.
A bit worried about what she might be planning to do to him, he feels her mouth press into where his shoulder comes up into his neck just before the pinch of her teeth sinking into his flesh.
Cass stalks the teen while taking stock of him. He appears to be the same age as her while being a little taller they probably weigh the same due to her having a lot of extra muscle from her training and his apparent lack of muscle. Getting closer to him has his scent enticing her more and more with every breath she takes.
The supply of candies that usually lasts her several days, and she had restocked on that morning, seems to have lost the battle against this young man's scent as she reaches for another but finds only an empty pocket. Figuring that he must be bleeding for it to be having such an effect on her she makes the decision to approach and offer help to him.
Making her way closer she notes when he pauses and looks around as if he felt someone following him. Her instinct has her staying just out of sight while the hunter inside her wants to see how well she can sneak up on him.
A couple of alleys later and she is preening to herself while right behind him and walking with him for several steps. Though when she reaches out to tap his arm to get his attention, she thinks that maybe she should've made some noise as he tries to defend himself.
While the initial punch as he turns around is easily dodge, the follow-up kick surprises her. Though not in a way that would let it connect but simply by the skill he shows in being able to perform it despite it being clear to her now that he is a little dazed.
Catching his leg, she decides restraining him so that they can talk would be the best choice. Shifting so he is pinned to the wall, she secures his hands to prevent any punches. Now intimately close to him, she is now able to see the small cut on his left cheek which has a traces of blood running along his jaw and gently dripping from his chin.
Leaning close, to make sure there were no other injuries, yes that is why she leans close and lets his scent fill her nose. Her fangs extend as she notes that the cut has already fully healed itself and she knows that she'll need to bribe Babs to help her hide her next few actions. Tilting her head, she bites into the teen's neck.
As her fangs sink in he lets out a slight moan, quickly followed by a whimper as she begins to feed on him. After a moment he slumps into her which has her panicking a little thinking she overestimated how much blood she could take from him. Pulling back she sighs in relief at seeing how he only fell asleep.
Turning back to his neck she plants a little kiss right where the marks from her fangs are causing her lips to be coated in his fresh blood. Easing him to the ground, she rummages in his pockets for a wallet. A slight giggle at how she must look like a mugger escapes her as she sends Barbara a picture of his school ID.
"Daniel Fenton." She quietly says to herself.
She makes a plan to pick up the other woman's preferred coffee and some of the decadent cupcakes from the bakery for the bribe. Her phone buzzes with the teen's hotel and which room is assigned to him. Cass giggles again at how he has been heading in the opposite direction from it. Smiling at how lost he had been, she picks him up and starts to head in the correct way.
As she does, a different thought occurs to her causing her to laugh again.
Danny wakes up in the bed of his hotel room very confused as to how he managed to get there. Though as he is sitting up, Sam and Tucker arrive and just stare at him for a moment.
"Lancer noticed you disappeared. Did you manage to find a good place to watch for the Bats tonight?" Tucker states.
He shakes his head as they move over to him and explains, "Dash pushed me into an alley, which I think gave me a concussion, there was an attempted mugging, and some really cute girl tried to rip my throat out with her teeth. After that I don't know what happened, just that I must've found my way back."
Sam frowns a little at the cute girl comment, but both of his friends notice the blood on the side of his neck. The gothic girl points out his shirt and when he actually looks at it he notices that rather than his usual white shirt with red accents he is wearing a black one with the symbol of Black Bat on it.
"Huh, I was pretty sure there wasn't any real merch for Black Bat. Would've grabbed something if there was." He states as he admires the symbol of his favourite hero on his chest.
He stands up to make his way to the bathroom to get cleaned up, but pauses and shifts to head to the door instead.
Tucker asks him, "Not going to wash the blood off first?"
His eyes flash green with mischief as he states, "It should make dealing with Lancer a little easier."
Going to where the teacher is waiting, he hides a smirk as the adult partially panics at the sight of him. Though he calms down once he sees that there are no serious wounds on the teen.
Danny apologizes and bullshits, "So I accidentally slipping on something and fell into an alley. A small cut on my head bled a bit and I was out for a few seconds which was long enough for me to lose the rest of the group. As such I made my way back here."
"Okay, well, I won't punish you then but please don't split off from the group again." The person currently responsible for the safety of several teens states.
Going back to his room, Danny takes a shower to wash all the blood off. Once cleaned up, he puts his new Black Bat shirt on again and marvels in it's softness and quality. Wondering if maybe it was custom made or if Gotham has merch that they don't sell online, he steps back out into the room.
As she moves to cuddle up to him, Sam is the first to notice the marks on his neck. Two spots surrounded by a kissmark. She takes in a sharp breath and when the boys try to see why, Tucker takes a picture to show Danny.
"It has to be a soulmark. Which would mean that whoever attacked him is his soulmate." Tucker tentatively says, while carefully glancing over at Sam.
She takes a slow breath and remarks, "Only Danny would have a Vampire as his soulmate and meet her while he has no ability to remember enough for us to be able to track her down."
Danny is gently touching where the mark is resting on his shoulder while quietly asking nobody in particular, "I wonder what her mark looks like."
After a moment, they all head down to the dining room to eat Dinner.
Cass enters the library where Barbara is currently at while having a couple cups of coffee from the older woman's favourite cafe as well as half a dozen cupcakes. Placing them all on the counter in front of her friend and spiritual sister, she waits a little nervously while she looks over the offering. A nod has Cass relaxing and taking the seat next to the redhead.
"Trying a new shade of lipstick?" Barbara asks with a smirk.
She smiles shyly at that, though her attention is brought to the laptop filled with information about Danny. Shifting in her seat so she can read over it all and learn more about the boy she fed on, Babs gives her a smile.
"I've sent everything my crawlers have already found to your email. High points are Mad Scientist parents who seem to truly care for their kids. However there does seem to be what can be considered neglect. Danny, as he prefers, had been a fervent attendee of space camp and any other space themed activity he could get to until a couple years ago. A brief hospitalization has caused what might be an ongoing medical issue and prevents him from passing the physicals required for the camps aimed at older teens." She explains.
Cass pouts a little at how he had his dream stolen from him. Once her drink is empty, and not having touched any of the cupcakes, she stands up to leave.
"Thanks Babs." She says as she gives the other woman a hug.
Back at the Manor, she feels the need to work off some of her feeling about Danny so she goes to the dance studio where she changes into a leotard. After an hour and a half of letting her emotions blend with music and guide the movements of her body, she heads to her bathroom to get washed up.
As she is drying her hair, she catches a glimpse of something in the mirror. Freezing, she carefully adjusts the mirrors to give her a better look at his back. At the handprint that now rests right over where her heart is as if someone was holding her and wanted to feel her heartbeat.
The realization that it is a soulmark, and that she has a soulmate crashes into her hard enough that she falls down to her knees. Memories surge forwards.
David was both satisfied and disappointed at the magic user he had brought in. They had used spells on her to try and see if there was someone out there that was her soulmate. Spells that reported that she didn't have one. Something about how David was holding himself told her that he had likely planned on having his weapon kill her own soulmate as a test.
Cass is grateful for whatever reason their bond didn't happen until now and tears of joy for his existence slide down her cheeks as the image of her pining Danny to the wall washes away the memories.
