bulletproof love

Summary:

Feelings fucking suck.
And Katsuki really doesn’t know
how to deal with them, or know
what they mean, so Kirishima
helps, which is good.

Until.. he needs help knowing
how he feels about Kirishima.
And has to do something
about it himself.

Chapter 1: I think we could do it if we tried,

Chapter Text

A hand reaches out, fingers clasping a folded piece of paper.

He snatches it and gives him a look, as if to say how stupid he’s being, passing notes in front of Mr Aizawa.

“You’re gonna get us caught, shitty hair.” Katsuki writes on the back of the paper and shows it to him.

Kirishima’s face lights up, trying to hide the fact that he’s blushing, which Katsuki is clearly oblivious to. Katsuki chuckles as he watches his reaction to what he’s written, loving how much someone actually seems to care, even though deep down he knows he doesn’t deserve it.

He flips over the piece of paper, eyes scanning Kirishima’s handwriting.

“Aizawa Bingo” written in highlighter, covering nearly a third of the page.

Underneath, it reads:

“Stop passing notes”
“I’m going to sleep”
“Quiet down”
“Problem children”
“You’re wasting my time”
“You’re getting expelled”
“Logical deception”
“Don’t make me repeat myself”
“Be rational”

Mr Aizawa clears his throat aggressively.

“Stop passing notes.”

Their breaths stop.

“Girls you’re wasting my time.”

Thank fuck.

He was talking to Racoon eyes and Pink Cheeks, who seemed to be giggling and drawing on a sheet of paper.

A smirk rises onto Katsuki’s face, as much as he wouldn’t like to admit it, realising how fun it can be to actually join in, instead of just focusing on being #1. Then Kirishima starts giggling and accidentally activates his quirk, shooting hardened lines all down his arm and crushes his pen, and this time, even Katsuki joins in on the laughter.

“Uhh, Sir? Do you have another pen?”

“Take it. But I’m going to sleep. Finish your essay.”

“Thanks!” Kirishima manages to say somehow, through laughter. “Kats!! He said another!”

Luckily the whole class was talking by this point, so nobody saw the genuine joy on his face.

He’d hate to be seen as such a weakling, but at the same time, it’s okay if it’s him.

“Come on dude!!” Kirishima shouted, chucking a highlighter at Katsuki, his beaming smile taking all his focus from anything else away.

“Uh- Yeah yeah!” Katsuki grabs the pen, fills in the three spaces, then remembers,

It’s been less than a minute and he has
already said three.

With all his might he held in his laughter, turning his head towards Kirishima’s eyes that of course match so perfectly along with his hair. It was down today. He loved it when his hair was down.

“Bakubro? You.. okay?”

Shit.

He was fucking staring.

“Tch. Yeah. Why wouldn’t I be shitty hair?”

Why was he staring? What was so special about him that he had to stare? He’s only got those shark teeth (And sharks were his favourite animals growing up so he really loves his teeth), those red eyes that match his in such a badass way, and those stupid eyebrows that somehow suit him, even though they could never suit anyone else.

And his hair. That gorgeous red hair that Katsuki helps him dye every other month, that sits perfectly as it is, when he lathers it up in so much fucking gel it’s insane, but even better when he doesn’t do anything to his hair and just leaves it down. It’s so perfect.

It’s just, him.

They continue writing their essays for a few minutes, as Kirishima knows Katsuki, and he knows he wouldn’t want to be asked more questions right now.

He waits till the bell goes to speak again,

“You wanna take lunch to the dorms after class?” Kirishima adds, knowing his answer from before was total bull.

“Mmm”, He mumbles, whilst nodding in approval.

Sometimes when he gets stressed, his voice disappears, and he hates it. Obviously it’s not always a bad stressed, like thinking you’re going to die, sometimes it’s like this, getting caught staring at someone when they always look so damn good.

And this shit has happened one too many times now.

But what makes him feel worse, is that people exist. So when he’s having a bad day, or he’s a little stressed and doesn’t know what to do or what to think, he escapes from the world around him, from everyone. To his own world where the sound of everyone’s voices don’t overlap, and he can’t hear the food in his mouth or feel the touch of the table and the clothes against his body, or feel that the chopsticks are ‘uneven’.

It just gives him time to calm down, without being asked more questions.

And he likes spending that time with Kirishima, so then he isn’t alone with his thoughts, but isn’t with a load of people. It’s perfect, really.

Kirishima pulls his backpack off his shoulder, and places it on the fence, digging through his bag for his keycard. Once he finds it, he then scans it on the 1A door, and opens the door, and holds it for Katsuki.

“Tch.” Katsuki lets out subconsciously, but thankfully quiet enough that Kirishima doesn’t hear him.

He only really feels the need to say this, since he always has his guard up, but it’s nice to let it down every once in a while, as long as he can try avoid how vulnerable it makes him feel.

He hates people taking care of him, and babying him, yet he doesn’t mind it from Kirishima, it feels.. safe? In a way. As much as he likes it from him, he will never admit it. There’s a limit to how many little things can be done for him to feel like a weakling. And he is close to his damn limit.

Or atleast,

Usually he would be?

He doesn’t feel as bad as he usually would when he’s with Kirishima.

He slumps onto one of the stools in the kitchen, and flops his torso onto the counter, still tired from the amount of exercise he did in the workout that morning with Kirishima.

“Hey man, what’s up?” Katsuki doesn’t reply, he just lets out a deep sigh. “I know you don’t like talking about feelings and shit, but I’m here for you! Feelings are so manly dude!!”

He drags his head up and gives him a slight smile, “Yeah.. Thanks Ei.”

Kirishima turns his head around, nearly inducing whiplash, and most likely would’ve broken something in his neck, if his hardening hadn’t suddenly turned on, which luckily for him it had. And also luckily it was only on in the back of his neck so Katsuki couldn’t see how startled he truly was.

Katsuki’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, trying to figure out why he was so shocked.

“Anytime Kats!!” He replied back, turning around and reaching a hand towards one of the upper cupboards, trying to hide how truly happy he was, he decided to beat Katsuki at his own game.

Kats? Oh my god. Did he just? No, surely not. But he did. Oh my fuck he really did just call me that.

That was so- No, no, no! What am I thinking? I don’t even like guys. I don’t like anyone, I don’t do dating or that stupid shit. I make my way to #1 and think of nothing else.

Fortunately, a strange bubbling noise breaks his train of thought, snapping him out of his head, grounding his spiralling thoughts and ignoring whatever the hell he’s feeling and leaving it to unpack later.

“Huh?” He lets out faintly, looking around for the culprit.

The kettle. What the fuck is Kirishima doing with a kettle.

Katsuki knows that Kirishima can’t cook. He honestly sucks at it, but Katsuki has withheld most of that information from him, he’s given him a few tips along the school year so far, so he hasn’t told him he was absolutely awful, and he really hopes he doesn’t go back to that.

The first dish he ever saw him make, was partially cooked ramen (because he didn’t know how to use a kettle) and an attempted boiled egg that exploded over the dorm kitchens. It really didn’t go well.

The thought makes him smile a little bit, the feeling of nostalgia and joy looking back as he thinks of how awful he used to be, but at the same time really fucking concerned. Because now, he actually has to eat the food that he’s made.

A case of salmonella maybe? Uncooked texture? Who knows with him. But it’s okay because he at least would’ve tried.

Hopefully he tried, I mean Kirishima called him his best friend last week. Which means he must care about not poisoning him at least a little, right?

It’s still strange to him, he called him his best friend.

His best friend.

He’s never been that close to anyone before, it’s oddly, nice?

A weird feeling arises in his stomach, not sure if it’s disgust, joy, or something else he can’t think about now, as his thoughts are interrupted by the redheads cheerful voice.

“And.. Voila!” Kirishima exclaims, spinning on the spot holding two ramen pots, one mild level spice, and the other high level spice.

“Idiot! You can’t have mild spice you’ll die!”

“Don’t worry man, I poured my spice into yours. I know you like it extra spicy Kats.” Kirishima says, placing it infront of him along with his chopsticks and carefully putting his arm around his left shoulder and giving him a squeeze.

Weirdly, he doesn’t push him off, just turns to him and gives him a slight smile, then proceeds to tell him it’s ‘not spicy enough’ just to piss him off, when in reality, it’s a little too spicy.

Warm giggles erupt as they eat and talk, in the comfort of the quiet.

[denks reacted 💛 to your message]

“I’ll have to make you dinner next time, Ei.”

“You don’t have-“

“Too late. I already decided that I’m doing it.”

A warm smile erupted onto Kirishima’s mouth as he tilted his head onto Katsuki’s shoulder, soaking in his warm embrace.

It’s a strangely nice feeling, being taken care of like this. A soft head upon his shoulder, and the most gentle eyes meet his, as Kirishima turns his head to look towards him.

A warmth radiating embrace settles next to him, as they eat their ramen, soaking in the feeling of comfort, and being able to share such a vulnerable moment, to him at least, with each other.

Whether it makes him weak or not, he doesn’t feel it, as for once, he can focus on something else, Kirishima’s voice. A soft noise keeping him at ease while they eat in the quiet dorms.

Katsuki signs, “Thank you”, in sign language, hoping Kirishima can understand what he is telling him, as Kirishimia had previously learnt some sign, incase Katsuki went deaf due to his quirk, which he’s already got hearing aids for.

Kirishima smiles back, beaming with joy.

“Anytime man!!”
