Four months had passed since his twelfth birthday, and he had become accustomed to his new reality. School in the mornings, hockey practice on most afternoons, and reaping one or two nights a week. On those nights, he would only get one or two hours notice at the most, in the form of a 3x5 index card. It would appear, always in his left pocket, and always with the same information. Tonight was no different.
He felt the familiar tingle in his fingertips that always preceded the arrival of the card. He reached into the left pocket of his pajamas and pulled it out to read.
