Summary
He wasn't sure if he was awake or still tangled in a never-ending nightmare, all he knew was that he wanted everything to stop.
His father raised a fist at Toby, threatening with another blow, as if the kid hadn't had enough already. He could hear his mother crying in the living room, holding her sister tightly so they didn't have to see the atrocity that was unfolding next door.
Toby knew he was beyond salvation. He knew no one would come to save him, that tonight he'd have to rock himself to sleep outside of his parent's door, hearing their slowed breathing, imagining that it was different, that he got to sleep on their bed and be cuddled and loved until he dozed off.
No one would save him, right?
