Missed you

Summary:

“You really are overwhelmed today, huh?”

“Mate,” Martyn mumbled against his skin, the word muffled. His tail thumped loudly against the blankets. “Missed my mate. Need your scent. Need you here.”

Work Text:

Scott had been thinking about this visit for days. The last game had ended with him and Martyn betraying him, but the ache of missing his previous partner hadn’t faded. Jimmy and Martyn had settled in the mesa, and Scott finally decided he couldn’t ignore the pull any longer.

He packed a small bag with some spare food and a few flowers he’d gathered, then set off across the server. The journey took most of the afternoon, the sun beating down on the arid landscape. Scott moved steadily, though his mind raced with memories, and he hoped Martyn felt the same pull.

Martyn’s base eventually came into view, with Jimmy’s influence visible in some colourful accents. Smoke rose from a chimney, and Scott smiled. He approached the door, heart beating a little faster, and knocked.

The door opened almost immediately.

Martyn stood there, this season he was dog hybrid. Fluffy ears perched atop his head, twitching at every sound, and a bushy tail swayed behind him. His eyes widened the moment they landed on Scott, pupils dilating. The tail gave one sharp, excited wag before freezing.

Scott,” Martyn breathed, voice rougher than usual. His ears flicked forward, locked on his visitor.

“Hey, Martyn. I missed you. Thought I’d drop by and—” Scott didn’t get to finish.

Martyn moved with surprising speed. One strong hand grabbed Scott’s wrist, pulling him inside. The door slammed shut behind them with a solid thud. Before Scott could process it, Martyn had him pinned gently but firmly against the wall for a brief second, nose already pressing into the crook of his neck.

Martyn—?” Scott started, surprised but not alarmed.

“Need you,” Martyn muttered, the words half-growl, half-whine. His tail wagged furiously now, thumping against the wall. “Missed you. Too much. Instincts… can’t control them yet. Stay.”

Scott’s heart softened. He knew Martyn was still adjusting to the dog hybrid traits he bore this season. Instincts were always new, overwhelming. “It’s okay,” he said softly. “I’m here.”

Martyn didn’t respond with words. Instead, he tugged Scott across the room toward the bed in the corner of the main living space. The base was simple but comfortable—chests lined one wall, a crafting table near the window, and two beds on either side of the room. The one he was pulled to was piled with blankets that smelled strongly of Martyn. The dog hybrid’s strength was evident; he’d always been physically stronger than Scott, and the dog part only amplified it. Scott found himself guided—then gently pushed—down onto the soft surface.

“Shirt,” Martyn said, already reaching for the hem. His ears were flat against his head in concentration, tail still wagging in rapid, needy arcs. Scott lifted his arms without protest, letting Martyn pull the fabric off and toss it aside. Cool air hit his skin, but Martyn’s warmth followed immediately.

Martyn crawled onto the bed after him, settling heavily over Scott’s smaller frame. He pinned him down with careful but insistent strength—one arm braced beside Scott’s head, the other wrapping around his waist. Martyn’s face buried straight into Scott’s neck again, nose rubbing firmly against the skin as he scented him thoroughly. Low, contented rumbles vibrated from Martyn’s chest, almost like a growl but softer, more affectionate.

Scott let out a surprised laugh that turned into a sigh. “You really are overwhelmed today, huh?”

Mate,” Martyn mumbled against his skin, the word muffled. His tail thumped loudly against the blankets. “Missed my mate. Need your scent. Need you here.”

He nuzzled harder, rubbing his cheek and jaw along Scott’s collarbone and up to his jawline, spreading his own warm, earthy scent everywhere he could reach. The motion was instinctive, driven by needs he clearly couldn’t suppress.

Scott’s hands came up to rest on Martyn’s back, fingers threading through his hair and scratching lightly behind one floppy ear. Martyn’s ears twitched hard at the touch, then relaxed as a pleased whine escaped him. “That feels good,” he admitted, voice thick. “Don’t stop.”

“I won’t,” Scott promised. He was pinned effectively—Martyn’s body draped over him like a weighted blanket, legs tangled, chest pressed close. There was no real pressure to escape, and honestly, Scott didn’t want to. This affection was overwhelming in the best way. “I missed you too. I always will.”

Martyn lifted his head just enough to look at Scott, eyes soft and a little glassy. His ears were perked forward again, tail still wagging steadily. “Stay. Just for a while. Jimmy’s out scouting. We have time.”

He lowered his head again, this time rubbing his face along Scott’s shoulder and chest, ensuring every inch of exposed skin carried his mark. The scenting was gentle but thorough, driven by a deep need to claim and comfort.

Scott relaxed fully beneath him, one hand continuing to pet Martyn’s ears while the other rubbed slow circles on his back. “I’m not going anywhere right now. You’re really struggling with the instincts, aren’t you?”

Martyn nodded against his neck, a small whimper escaping. “Hard to control. Everything’s louder. Smells stronger. When you knocked… all I could think was mate, protect, keep close. Cuddle. Mark.” His tail gave another vigorous wag, brushing against Scott’s leg. He shifted slightly, adjusting his hold so Scott was even more securely pinned—comfortably trapped in the warmth of Martyn’s embrace. “You’re safe here. With me.”

“I know,” Scott murmured. He tilted his head, giving Martyn better access. The dog hybrid took the invitation, nuzzling deeper, occasionally pressing soft kisses along Scott’s throat. “You’re a good boy, Martyn.”

The words earned him a happy rumble and faster tail wags. Martyn’s ears flicked with delight at the praise. He settled heavier, cheek pressed to Scott’s bare chest now, listening to his heartbeat. One of Martyn’s hands stroked up and down Scott’s side in long, soothing motions, while his other arm remained wrapped firmly around Scott’s waist, keeping him exactly where he wanted him.

They stayed like that for a while. Every time Scott shifted as if to get up, Martyn’s hold tightened, a soft whine escaping as his ears drooped. “Not yet. Please.”

Scott didn't push. He carded fingers through Martyn’s hair, scratched behind his ears until the blonde was practically melting against him.

“You’re stronger than me,” Scott noted quietly at one point, testing Martyn’s hold with a gentle push against his shoulder. Martyn didn’t budge, easily keeping him pinned. “Always were, but this season it’s even more obvious.”

Martyn lifted his head, ears perked with a mix of pride and sheepishness. “Don’t want to hurt you. Just… need this. Need you close. My instincts say keep mate safe. Keep you here.” His tail wagged slower now, content. He rubbed his face along Scott’s neck one more time, leaving a final layer of scent before settling again.

Scott smiled, pressing a light kiss to the top of Martyn’s head between his ears. “I’m happy to stay. I missed this kind of quiet with you.”
