    Summary

Rozanov reached out to touch the open collar of Shane’s shirt, one of his fingers lightly grazing his neck. “I see you are not always so buttoned-down. Buttoned-up? What is correct phrase?”

Elated to find himself in his area of expertise and under the sway of three drinks, Shane said, “I guess it depends what you mean. Buttoned-down refers more to, like, having a conservative attitude, adhering to conventional norms in how you dress or act. Buttoned-up is someone who is a bit repressed or uptight, or maybe just shy.”

Rozanov gave a bark of delighted laughter. “Mr. Copy Editor,” he said. “Mr. Dictionary.”

Then he leaned in, lips close enough to Shane’s ear to touch, and whispered, “Either way, I think I would like to see less buttons.”

Shane Hollander is a copy editor at the Tribune, a small Prairie newspaper. When hotshot — and insanely hot — Russian Reuters reporter Ilya Rozanov is parachuted into his newsroom, it might upend his life even more than an update to the Canadian Press Stylebook.
