Chapter Text
The alien, or as they were now known as, Lime had decided, not too long ago, that they had chosen the wrong host to inhabit. While the other two had inhabited the bodies of the intern and hr worker they had been stuck with the engineer, they thought at least they would be able to travel through the vents freely chalking it up to ‘squish bone syndrome’ which their host previously had. They had thought it had been a good choice to pick the host they did, oh how wrong they were. As soon as white had dropped dead all suspension was onto lime, who apparently was the crazy crewmates of the ship, the only reason they hadn't been voted out right then and there was because they one crewmates piped up, the resident doctor, a crewmate with dark navy blue skin and a knack of getting everyone to swoon at them.
“I was with lime” the doctor told purple who had accused lime, the doctor smiled ever so sweetly despite the absolute lie they just had told, they had a good poker face, maybe they should've inhabited blue instead, oh well it's too late to change hosts now, Afterall they had already dissolved their hosts innards and bones and if limes body suddenly showed up with no bone or anything would cause even more suspicion. They were admittedly a little confused when the doctor lied on limes behalf, lime knew that they hadn't been with blue, so did blue so why would they like so blatantly?
“Alright.. I guess that makes sense.” Purple said, still suspicious of the engineer.
“See purps! Just a freak accident!!” Red chuckled to themselves awkwardly, it would be so easy to pin a murder on the idiotic captain, they would have to speak about it to the rest of the trio imposters later.
Lime watched as blue, red and orange shuffled the cot into med-bay, leaving the rest of the crew to their own devices. Lime sat down at a table, away from green to avoid suspicion as they tinkered on the toaster they had found, with taking over this body Lime had gained the ability to know about everything lime knew, they could see their memories like it was a tv show. Lime had learned however that this was a bad idea, they had been around long enough to know that see a crewmates memories was a way of getting attached, which is something that under no circumstances should happen. So they sat there tinkering as they listened to yellow and brown gossip to each other while making pizza, beside them sat a lighter blue crewmate, cyan.
“Hi what ya working on!!!” They yapped, lime found them annoying, they had dealt with many crewmates before but not like how annoying cyan was, they stood up dropping the toaster.
“YA’ STAY SWAY FROM ME YA DREAM STEALIN’ WITCH!!” they yelled, they knew this was in character for lime, as when adapting to a host an alien automatically gains their speech patterns and personality. They made their way to the vent glaring at cyan as jumped inside.
They could hear the crewmates talk, yellow talked first.
“Their a crazy one ain't they. Just last week they were yelling at me for not allowing them to steal the rice and oats for their ‘bunker’.” Yellow sighed as lime heard brown next
“Preach”, not much a talker that one. Lime made their way through the vents easily and slickly, finding their way to their hosts hangout, a small crevice in the vent which lead to a widened space which housed a blanket, pillows and alot of bits and pieces, include makeshift cross. Lime held the cross in their hand, they oddly found it comforting as they did so. They mumbled a pray, they didn't know why they did it, they just did, it felt comforting, something the alien had never felt.
After the pray was over lime decided to see blue. They needed answers, and they needed them now.
Lime popped their head out of the vent warely as they looked around medbay, orange and red weren't here. That was good. Before they could even get out of the vent they notice the doctor turning their chair around them.
“Hello lime.” Blue smiled at them sweetly, they were so prestine, so clean. Lime grumbled under their breath as blue made their way, they picked lime out of the vent easily. Too easily, how built was this doctor?
“It's a pleasure to see you! It's not often I'm visited by you!” Blue said sweetly as they placed lime on the medbay floor, lime squinted their visor at the doctor highly suspicious. They were absolutely beautiful, it was a wonder how some crewmates didn't fawn over the doctor with how good they looked. They were almost like a siren..
“Ya ya! Don't touch me ya siren” lime scowled shooing the doctor away as they looked the doctor up and down once more.
“What was that?? I wasn't with ya before white kicked the bucket??” Lime interrogated, raising an eyebrow as they pointed a grimy finger towards the clean doctor. Blue nodded slightly understanding why lime had visited them,
“Ah, so that's why you're here, and here I was thinking that you were here to finally get your mandatory check up!” Blue joked as limes eyebrow furrowed, in no way would they allow for this doctor to even do one test on their host, god forbid they find out what they truly are.
“Ya ain’ doin’ no tests on this body! It's a temple!!” Lime grumbled said angrily, blue smiled in understanding,
“Yes it is indeed..” blue said without thinking which caused the engineer imposter to turn red, what was that.. the imposter was slightly baffled at the words the doctor had just said to them, it was the most unprofessional thing they had heard. They shook their head, surely they were overthinking.
“Ya damn right!!” Lime retorted, mumbling ever so slightly, they were just overthinking it. However they did note the way blue stammered and looked away from the engineer. Blue coughed as they regained their professionalism turning back towards them.
“Now back to why you're here, I believe I told a white lie, bad wording there because of the circumstance but still, I said it because I don't believe you did it.” Blue looked Lime in the visor as they took the imposter's hands.
“You are so dedicated to this crew and even if your way of protecting them is a bit… odd.. I know you would never do any harm to them “ blues visor sparkled like a gemstone in the sun as they squeezed their hands. Lime felt their face get warm at the physical contact, was their host really that important to this crewmate, they felt an odd sickness they had never felt, deep within their stomachs, lime pulled away, they looked away guilty.
“I'm not as good as ya think I am..” lime mumbled, why did they feel almost guilty, guilty at the fact that this crewmate had so much trust in them and yet, they weren't who they thought they were, litterly. In all of lime’s years of taking over hosts and killing crews they had never felt this pang of guilty that they did when talking with lime. Blue placed a hand on lime’s shoulder.
“You are that good, I know that. Everyone may think you're crazy, but I know that you deeply care for every single crewmate on this ship.” Blues voices was genuine and caring, something lime had never come across before. They pulled away from the doctor, they couldn't look at the doctor anymore without blushing deeply. They walked towards the vent in silence saying one last thing to blue,
“Ya just be careful, ya got it doc?” Lime stated, not allowing blue to answer before they entered the vents.
It was around midnight by the time green had finally showed up in communications, the place that was ultimately decided as their meet up spot. Green scowled the youngest imposter and lime rolled their visor, although they were the eldest and most experienced of the trio green was a much larger imposter making them the bean in charge, although it had been limes idea to communicate with eachother since they had been nearly voted out due to greens neglect to communicate that they were killing right off the bat.
"So who's next?" Orange question, tilting their head almost like a dog. This was oranges first time with no prior experience in how to choose someone to be killed. Before lime could answer green spoke up,
"I heard that blue will be doing full body scans tommrow, they need to go." They said bluntly, lime grimaced at this, they remembered the guilt they felt and the way blue deeply trusted lime, being told that they would keep the crew safe.. they had told blue to be careful. Lime wanted to agree to greens plan, to get rid of the doctor. However, lime found themselves unable to agree, everything inside of them was telling them to kill the doctor, to end this guilt that they felt, but yet they found themselves defending them.
"No, not the doc." Lime spoke up, green looked towards them bewildered, as lime continued on, trying to find a excuse, any excuse to keep the crewmates that had showed them even a lick of kindness.
"Their my only alibi, if they go all suspicion goes onta me!" Lime explained themselves hoping green would understand, green didn't.
"It's been barely a day and you've already gotten attached?? Holy worms lime.. I never expected this from YOU out of all crewmates, sure orange might be a little bit too into their roleplay as HR but you.. YOU'VE GROWN ATTACHED HAVEN'T YOU!!" they mocked, revealing their teeth with a wide smile.
"You, the parasite that has taken more hosts both me and orange combined, I thought you were smart than this lime." Green snickered, lime curled up their first as they were about to punch green as they were quickly pinned to the wall, a tendril stabbing them through the shoulder.
"We are killing blue first, whether you like it or not.." greens tendril slicked back into them as they scowled at them, orange waved lime goodbye as they left with green. Lime sat there for a bit, their breathing heavy as they winced at their blood shoulder.
They thought about greens words, had they gotten attached? They had only been in this hosts body for less than a day yet whenever they thought about the doctor they felt this deep pain in their chest, they had heard about feelings lingering from hosts if they were strong enough. This could possibly be that, lime looked to their shoulder as noted the mix of blood and pink sludge escaping out, seemed like their host hadn't fully been dissolved yet. Lime slowly stood up but quickly turned their head when they heard a gasp
Their in the doorway stood the one person they absolutely did not want to see.. blue.
