To Burn Again

Summary:

A relationship born of lies will never last… or at least, that’s what everyone says.

After the final battle with All For One and Shigaraki, Hawks finds it in himself to visit Dabi, hoping to have some sort of conversation about their ill-advised first try at love. But they find themselves interrupted by an overeager Dabi enthusiast, and end up launched into the past, rewound to proper health, and left with no way back to the present.

It is, incidentally, the most perfect second chance either could receive. But will they have the strength to rekindle their old flames, or will their ashes scatter across the timeline, extinguished for good?

Notes:

Neither my friend nor I own the My Hero Academia characters. All credits go to my friend—the actual author! English is not her first language. This is our first work, so I hope you like it!

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Self-branded Kronos was not interested in the new, tentative peace the heroes had established. Personally, he thought things were better when the League of Villains was running things; they had their heads in the right place.

Except for the fact that they’d gotten themselves killed. “Only idiots get themselves killed,” was Kronos’s policy, and that’s why he’d firmly latched onto the one villain that seemed, for lack of a better word, villainous enough, the one who’d survived.

Dabi.

Kronos sighed and checked the oversized pocket of his oversized coat, which he’d sewn in an effort to gain more fabric space. He kept all of his Dabi™ merchandise in that pocket. It meant more to him than his entire stash of potatoes that he kept in his basement.

And that was a big deal, because Kronos had, at one point, attempted to live off of potatoes for about a year. But that’s a different story.

Kronos hummed a self-satisfied rhythm to himself as he strolled along in the dark. Two weeks ago, he’d received contact from a strange looking fellow in an oversized bird mask. Kronos had appreciated the mask; after all, he himself was a big fan of oversized clothing.

The fellow had given him a case and a large sum of money to watch over it, and while Kronos appreciated the thought, he was a nosy person, and had not been able to keep himself from opening it. He’d been quite surprised to discover three vials of a glowing, golden substance.

Now, Kronos was not stupid. A case from a plague-doctor looking man that contained a mysterious substance? It had to be drugs! But not just any drugs. No, he’d heard about this on the news. About a girl whose quirk could rewind.

A girl whose quirk looked just like this.

He’d been thinking for a while that his beloved villain could be brought from the brink of death. He’d been brainstorming plans, coming up with ideas. And he’d always circled back around to one thing.

That girl.

And now, somehow, inadvertently, he’d been handed the answer to his problem.

However, he didn’t want to accidentally turn the man into a teenager. Teenagers were annoying, overly emotional, and tended to make stupid decisions like stabbing people and then killing themselves to save said stabbed person.

Not that he was bitter.

No, he couldn’t just rely on his vials. So he’d decided to play doctor. If the incidents over the last year had taught him anything, it was that mixing quirks was the best way to get what you wanted.

And he just so happened to have the perfect quirk for what he had in mind.

Kronos could stop time.

Sort of. He could really only make things freeze in a small area, but it would have to be enough. He thought that maybe if he mixed his quirk and the girl’s, he could rewind Dabi’s injuries without resetting his age.

Kronos had not passed chemistry. He was really just going on instinct here. But it seemed like a solid plan!

And, as a bonus, he’d managed to find the ruins of the Doctor’s old lab, the one good old All For One had used to develop his Nomus.

The pieces were all falling into place. He just had to make sure he was there to connect them.
