Work Text:

After everyone was safe at the Owl House, Luz went up to her room and collapsed onto her sleeping bag, not even having enough energy to tuck herself in all the way, she just laid on top of it thinking over the last 24 hours.

It had begun with that stupid decision to try and steal from the emperor. Which had led to Eda getting captured. Luz stayed adamant that it was her fault, she had gone back to save Eda earlier that day.

This train of thought led to her eventually thinking over her friendship with Amity, who had always wanted to join said coven. She hoped that this wouldn’t drive a wedge between them, Willow and Gus were great but… Amity felt… different, somehow.

This led to Luz thinking about the possible reasons for why this could be. Maybe it’s because we’re closer? Does it have to do with how we started? She mulled over choices for a few minutes before it hit her like a truck. Oh Titan, I have a crush on her don’t I? At the realization she felt her cheeks heat up.

She buried her head in her hands to prevent someone, even though everyone else was asleep, from finding out.

Luz would have to tell her at SOME point obviously. But, when? Where? How? At their Azura Book Club? Outside of school? Before class? After class? Tell her point blank? Give her a note?

The note idea reminded her of Grom. Damnit, she likes someone else. What if telling her destroys our friendship? Luz sighed tiredly, she couldn’t deal with this right now so she properly got in the sleeping bag and closed her eyes.

***************

Luz woke up the next day, groggy as all hell, at least it was a Saturday so she could just lay in bed and do nothing most of the day.

What she was not expecting was a knock at the front door, followed by a short and quiet conversation between someone and Eda and said someone walking up the stairs.

Luz heard a knock on her door. “Coming!” She called out before worming herself out of her sleeping bag and walking herself up.

She walked over to her door and opened it a sliver and was faced with Amity.

She quickly shut the door.

Shit.

Shit.

This wasn’t good at all, she had only just figured out about her crush on the green-haired witch a few hours ago, how on Titan’s Red Isles was she supposed to act normal around her?!

She then realized that she had just shut the door in her crush’s face and quickly flew the door open.

“Sorry! I-I just wasn’t expecting visitors, especially not you!” Luz said as she felt a blush creep up to her cheeks wondering why she had added that last bit.

“O-Oh sorry, I-I can leave if yo-” Amity started but was cut off by Luz “No!” Luz blushed at her own sudden volume. “S-sorry, I was just shocked is all.” She said before opening the door fully to allow Amity into her room.

“Hey, you doing okay?” Amity asks. Suddenly the bi panic is gone and the memories of yesterday come flooding back.

Luz sits down, hugs her knees to her chest and shakes her head.

“Want to talk about it?” The witch asks. Luz shakes her head again.

“Do you need anything?” Amity asked. “Just you.” Luz mumbled and both girls felt the blush in their cheeks. “What’d you say?” Amity asked. “N-Nothing!” Luz blurted out.

The two girls sat side by side with Amity rubbing comfortable circles into Luz’s back for the next few hours before Amity had to head back home.

Luz spent the rest of the night thinking of ways to tell Amity about her crush, obviously it wouldn’t be reciprocated as Amity had been planning to ask someone else out to Grom, but the witch should still at least be aware of the human’s feelings for her, Luz just hoped it wouldn’t ruin their friendship.

Luz told herself that Amity would know by the end of Monday.

***************

Sunday came and went and Monday came all too fast. Luz knew that if she didn’t tell her today she would never do it and that simply was not an option. Amity deserved to know, even if it drove her away.

Luz quickly ate breakfast and got to school earlier than usual in order to hopefully get some time alone to talk with Amity.

She spent the whole walk hyping herself up before she inevitably reached Hexside and the beautiful green witch outside it. The thought of telling her made Luz’s stomach churn.

“Just like you practiced Luz…”

“Did I brush my teeth well enough this morning? She is gonna smell it and be grossed out???! Or-or smell my sweaty gross pits!”

Luz had felt her breath get caught up in her throat, she breathed a long exhale, No, she knew what she needed to do

She walked over to Amity. “Hey, u-um, Amity?” She called out. “O-Oh hey Luz!” She said a little too loud and cheeks red. Must be because it’s cold. Luz thought to herself.

“S-So, um, I have something to tell you.” Luz said nervously. “I-I know that you have that Grom crush… but I just need to tell you that… I have a c-crush on you.” As Luz finished the sentence she squeezed her eyes, not wanting to see Amity’s reaction.

“I-I’m sorry! I-I shouldn’t ha-” Luz started.

Amity attempted to cut her off “Luz.”

“-ve said anyth-”

Amity attempted to cut her off again “Luz!”

“-ing. I-I’ll leave.” Luz said as she turned around to wait for school to begin somewhere else.

“LUZ!”

Luz froze and turned on her heel to face Amity. “Y-Yeah?” Luz felt her stomach twisting and turning in all sorts of ways in preparation for the next words that would come out of Amity’s mouth.

“D-Do you really mean that?”

Not wanting to make the situation worse, she told the truth, “Y-Yeah.” She said as she nodded and rubbed the back of her neck.

Luz saw a red blush creep across Amity’s cheeks all the way up to the tip of her ears. “I-I like y-you too.”

“B-But you’re Grom crush!” Luz exclaimed, as if she was looking for a reason Amity didn’t have a crush on her.

“You didn’t find it even a little bit weird I was keeping my Grom crush such a big secret and said ‘Oh, it’s not important’ after we danced?”

“I-It’s just that… back in the human realm… no one really liked me like that so… I don’t know… I guess it just feels a bit unreal that someone, especially you, likes me back.”

“Well, then they are missing out. You are the most beautiful, cheerful, and  authentic person I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting and ever since you came into my life it has gotten so much better.” Amity said, tearing up at the memory of her life before Luz before quickly wiping them away.

“What I am trying to say is that if you’d like, then I would love nothing more than to go out with you.” Amity said. “R-Really?” Luz said, excited.

“Only if YOU want to though.” Amity emphasized. Luz nodded up and down repeatedly “Of course I want to!” Luz said as she wrapped her arms around Amity’s neck and pulled her into a hug, which the witch quickly returned.

After a few seconds they separated from the hug and stared lovingly into each other’s eyes before being interrupted by both Willow and Gus. “Are the lovebirds done confessing their undying love yet!” They called from the treeline in front of Hexside.

Luz and Amity both blushed heavily. “Y-Y-Yeah, we’re done, sorry.” Willow and Gus both chuckled. “It’s fine. We’re just glad you two are finally together, I’m 90% sure the whole school knew about the mutual crushing.” Gus said.

“Was I really that obvious?” Amity mumbled to herself rhetorically. “Yes.” Willow deadpanned.

The group sat there for another 30 minutes talking before the bell rang and they headed to class.
