Work Text:
Unfortunately, when she had decided to take form of a human, the goddess of the wind had unknowingly taken the body of an autistic woman.
You can't tell by one look. That's not how it works. But once you hear how many years she's eaten porridge every day for, you'll know.
She liked her body for a while; her curves were in the perfect places, her hands were slender, and her face was sharp and elegant. People admired her nearly intimidating beauty. But the downsides were that she could not get the people to understand her. She could not understand how the humans worked either.
This, in turn, led to a poor gathering of faith for the first few hundred years of her existence.
In addition, everything seems to tick Kanako off, and she's not too sure why. She hates when people scream (unless she's intoxicated for some reason) or when her things are rearranged. She hated how easily the minor inconveniences could ruin her day. Her body was beautiful on the outside but not exactly the most functional on the inside.
Long before Gensokyo, Kanako, Sanae, and Suwako spent their days at their shrine in the outside world. Kanako's body was still organic back then, so she felt her struggles even more.
On a particular day she felt her worst. Nothing had seemed to go right that day. She had too many errands in big crowded spaces to do today, but there were some other things. Her sweater kept touching the back of her neck. The man behind her in line at the grocery store had never heard of volume control, as he shouted his entire phone call. Her body was sweating for no reason. People were talking too much. The lights were way too bright. Everything is too bothersome.
This is certainly not part of being a god after all.
She felt her slim fingers curl into her hand, turning into a balled fist. She closed her eyes and tried to pretend nothing was happening.
That didn't work.
She felt more and more anxious and felt like she was going to drop to the ground again.
But now, she has control. Certainly, a goddess like her knows how to behave properly!
By control, she meant running away back to her house behind then shrine.
She could never get out of breath as the wind would always cooperate with her, but she could have sworn she felt that feeling humans talk about after running too much. She tried to fight her urges to scream and cry, but she let her feelings win once more.
Suwako walked in to a somewhat rare sight - a Kanako breaking down on the floor. She was curled into a ball and sobbed uncontrollably. It felt deeply disturbing for the lesser goddess to watch, so she tried to console Kanako by rubbing her back.
Suwako's hand was violently pushed off and met by a piercing stare that she knows much too well.
"Get. Your. Hand. OFF ME!"
Kanako fittingly hissed. She then proceeded to violently sob curled up in her ball again.
"D-do you really want to be left alone?" Suwako stuttered. "You don't look so good."
Kanako snapped.
"Well, I don't look so good because everyone's been bothering me, damn it!"
She rolled to the other side and curled right back up. "Just leave me alone because I don't want you breathing on me! I don't want to feel anything on my skin or my face ANYMORE! I could just rip off my clothes right now if I was a savage in fact, but I'm not! I'm perfectly sane!"
"Yeah, sure you are." Suwako muttered under her breath whilst hearing the painful sobs of the taller.
She watched with curiosity for a few more seconds then went off somewhere else.
"Are you sure you're fine?" Suwako had come back to the living room, where Kanako was in her exact same position as before.
"Yes!" She declared while still wailing. "Leave me alone and go do something better with your time like watch TV or something!"
Then, Suwako crouched down on the floor, putting her shoulder firmly on the distressed ball. Kanako turned her head around only a little bit, staring with those sharp eyes again.
"Please, calm down now." Suwako started to rub Kanako's back repetitively; up and down, nice and steady. There must be a way to calm this woman down. Kanako flinched a little at first, but she then started to feel like a boulder had finally been removed off her shoulders.
After an hour of crying on the floor, she had gotten up and headed to the couch, sighing of disbelief.
"I'm so melodramatic, aren't I?" Her palms ran down her face as she chuckled.
"I mean, you always get like that when you're stressed," Suwako added. She fiddled with pieces of Kanako's silky indigo hair, tying them into a little braid. "I don't blame ya, these days things have just been too much for everyone I'd say."
"Yeah... but I've only ever seen a child throw a tantrum like I did." Kanako remarked. She turned around a little to see what that little frog was up to. When she saw it was nothing, her head slowly turned back.
"Well, be grateful you did it here and not outside!" Suwako giggled and wrapped her arm around Kanako, squeezing the superior a little bit.
"Ah, this is nice."
She then put her arm around Suwako as well, perfectly intertwining with each other.
It's not too bad if you have a pesky frog with you, I guess.
