Chapter 1: Where Are We?

Chapter Text

Peach's POV

It had already been quite a day for me, so I didn't think that it could get any worse. But here I am, stuck at a party celebrating my own rescue. It happened so often that I didn't even know why we held these parties anymore. My counsel refused to listen to me on this as with so many other issues, so I had stopped fighting it.

"Peach?" I turn towards the voice.

"Oh it's you," I say when I see the short, mustachioed Italian.

"Wow, so bitter to your rescuer and lover." Mario replies snarkily.

"Oh, don't give me that," I sneer. "I have turned you down so many times, yet everyone thinks I'm in a love triangle with you and Bowser. News flash, People. Just because someone rescues you doesn't mean you're in love with them. And just because someone kidnaps you every week doesn't mean they're in love with you."

"You laugh now. But someday I won't be there to save you and then you'll miss me."

I roll my eyes and turn to my personal assistant. "Toadette, please escort this nuisance away from me."

"My pleasure." She smiles before grabbing Mario's arm and dragging him off to the food table.

I rest my head on my hands, watching the party continue into the wee hours of the morning.

I am awakened by a strange, green glow in my room. I groggily sit up until I see the cause of the light. It's a portal where my mirror used to be. I walk towards it and reach out. My hand passes through, but I pause. What if I regret leaving the palace? What if I find a better life than I've ever had here? I weigh the pros and cons and take my first step before fully passing through. The place I find myself in is filled with tall buildings and many flashing lights everywhere. People pass by on every side but the ones that catch my eye are an elf in a green tunic, a beautiful blue skin woman, and a blonde ninja.

I am the first to speak, "Who are you? And where are we?"

Link's POV

Life has been interesting since I saved Hyrule from Ganondorf. Everyone knows who I am wherever I go but I really could care less. The only person I want to know my name has left me forever. I am starting to give up hope even though I have searched for ways to the Twilight Realm every day for the last two years. I tried to get used to life back in Ordon but I was restless for adventure. Recently though Princess Zelda has summoned me back to the palace for her coronation. I suspect she wants to make me her personal knight and I don't have the heart to tell her no. There's no reason to continue looking for the Twilight realm. She has probably made it impossible.

I roll over to stare at the wall, unable to sleep. I finally give up and light a candle to leave my room.

"Sir Link?" the knight outside my room says when I open the door.

"It's okay, Kai. I'm just going for a walk."

"Should I follow you?"

"I think I can take care of myself. Don't worry. I'll call you if I get into trouble."

Kai nervously laughs. I walk away shaking my head. I won't call him, he's a little too inexperienced.

I continue my walk through the halls until I reach the door I want. As I step into the Graveyard I can sense the ghosts surrounding the tree in the middle. I smile knowing that means he is here.

I kneel in front of the tree, "Great-grandfather, I need you. I can't figure out what to do with my future. I can't be in Ordon anymore, I don't know if I want to be Zelda's knight, and I can't find my way back to Midna. Please help me!"

I look up at the branches of the tree waiting for a sign until I start to see a blue glow on the trunk. I stand up quickly and shuffle back as it grows into a portal not unlike the twilight portals.

"Is this your sign to me?" I ask into the night.

I get no response but that doesn't matter. I step through the portal my hopes high.

The first thing I notice is how many lights there are despite the fact that it's night. This is definitely not the Twilight realm. People are all around but only three catch my eye. A princess dressed in pink, a blonde ninja, and the woman I thought I would never see again.

The princess is the first to speak. "Who are you? And where are we?"

Midna's POV

It's been two and half years since I shattered the Mirror of Twilight and not a day goes by without missing the light realm and Him. My rule has been one of the best in years, but sometimes I wish I could have passed off my rule after the defeat of Zant.

"Queen Midna?" A voice startles me out of my sleep.

"Yes?" I say a little too harshly.

The Twili looks startled and continues shakily, "There is a disturbance we need you to investigate."

"I'm sorry. I'll come as soon as possible."

The twili bows and exits the room. I grab my robe and slip my shoes on, before quickly making my way to the scene of the disturbance.

As I get closer, one of my advisors approaches me. "Queen Midna! One of the servants was cleaning the dining room when she noticed a red glow coming from the kitchen door. As she drew closer the glow grew into a full-blown portal. We were unsure what to do so we sent someone to get you."

I smile. "Thank you, Decli. I can handle it from here."

The portal is surrounded by my entire counsel but they back away and bow as I approach. I study the portal and notice it has a similar pattern to the twilight portals I saw in the light realm. I decide to go against my better judgement and step towards it. My counsel squeaks and rushes towards me but I pass through the portal completely. The place I find myself in reminds me of the light realm at night just brighter and with many more people. I glance around and notice some people who stand out in the crowd around me. A princess dressed in pink, a blonde ninja, and the man I left behind.

The Princess is the first to speak, "Who are you? And where are we?"

Zelda's POV

I rush through the dark of my palace. I know if anyone sees me, they'll tell Impa and then she'll scold me for my vigilante work. It's a bit later then I meant for it to be, so I am glad to reach my bedroom. I collapse on my bed too tired to change.

"Zelda?"

I shoot up and stare into the darkness. "Who's there?"

Link walks into my view and waves.

"What are you doing here?" I ask. "Your wife just had a child. Shouldn't you be taking care of her?"

"Impa summoned me. She said you've been distant and she's worried about you. And now here I find you in your Sheik get up getting back at 3 in the morning."

"Of course, Impa summoned you. She just can't leave me alone!" I yell.

Link steps back. "Calm down, Zelda. It's not like that. She cares about you. You just don't see that."

I Glare at him. "Get out."

Links opens his mouth to speak but I don't let him get a word in.

"Get out. Go home and take care of Malon and your child. I don't need you and Impa's worries. I am perfectly fine."

Link looks like he wants to speak but one look at my face makes him leave. I walk out on to my balcony and gaze at the stars.

"Why won't anyone leave me alone?" I speak into the night. "Hylia, please help me."

I turn to go back to my bed. but the stone I am standing on starts to glow white. Confused, I kneel down to inspect it. Suddenly, the ground disappears, and I fall through the portal that appeared. The city I find myself in reminds me of Castletown, just with taller buildings. The people in front of me are staring at me so I look a little bit closer at them. There's a princess dressed in pink, a blue skinned woman, and Link?

The princess is the first to speak, "Who are you? And where are we?"
