You should've told me.

Summary:

Au where Hummer didn't disappear and theory that he was actually the Leviathan.

Notes:

I wrote this while listening to sad songs. and this took me 2 hours to write ...

I liked the theory of Hummers being the Leviathan so I wrote about it. The theory of Hummers not being real made me a little sad so this is my way of coping because it could be real...

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Wifies and Hummers hearts were depleting as they swam in the deep blue abyss, their water breathing potions fading away.

Hummer had told Wifies to believe. If not the Leviathan, then him. To believe in him, to believe in what they had spent hours searching for. Wifies had agreed to this, he was putting his utmost trust in his new beloved friend.

When Wifies thought that he was about to die, suddenly he stopped at half a heart. He was dumbfounded, had the Leviathan that they had spent hours searching for finally show up? Did it show itself?

Then Wifies looked up to see a scaly sea-serpent right where Hummer had been. Hummer was nowhere to be seen, only the sharp teethed dragon-like being right Infront of his very own eyes.

"What the..Wheres Hummer? Are you the Leviathan?" Wifies backed up a bit, the water making it hard for him to move away from the creature right before him.

Hummer was completely gone. Discarded, or had he died? Had he lost hope in the thought of it existing at the last second? He was the one who gave Wifies hope in the first place, the courage to believe that something like this COULD exist, that it DOES exist even with all of the proof that they found indicating that it didn't, that it was a stupid hoax, a glitch in the system.

"Is he dead? Why didn't you save him like you saved me...Why...Me? Why not him, the one who believes in you more than I could ever have?" Wifies had demanded, his voice perplexed and strained. He wanted to know so badly why it chose him, someone who had only started looking a few hours ago instead of someone who had been fascinated on this for months, or maybe even years?

The Leviathan crept closer to the other, its eyes bright with a glowing aura that Wifies couldn't quite wrap his head around. It was a mysterious creature, that was certainly for sure. It was more mysterious now than when they were actively searching for its whereabouts. What was this thing really?

Wifies then noticed something. If Hummers had died then where was the death message that always popped up at a players demise? The yellow text telling the server a players misfortune. It never appeared when Hummers had departed. So where was his eager friend?

"What'd you do to him...? Where is Hummers? Where is my friend?!" Wifies enjoined, his words suddenly sharper and more panicked. What had this thing done to him? He didn't even know why he was asking questions when he didn't even know if this thing could talk or not.

The scaled creature stared at him for a moment before it started to swim, it glided into a circle around him. it rounded around his form until it finally came back to look him in the eye. Its eyes glowing with a certain look he was familiar with...

A look full of hope, a look full of belief he didn't even know was humanly possible. A look that was so stubborn he couldn't say no whenever it had a new idea, a look that never allowed him to give up.

"You...Believed...In me." Wifies suddenly heard the voice. The Leviathans lips hadn't moved, the sharp fang-like teeth still in place, sealed tight shut. "You actually trusted me. Believed.. That this thing I am was real, you looked for me. You never gave up even when things were getting hard." That voice was so familiar. A voice he had been talking to for hours, a voice burned into his memory.

"You.....H-Hummers...Is that...." Wifies was shocked, his eyes widening just a bit. This was a twist he never expected out of every possible outcome he could've thought of. Every outcome he thought of was that they'd either find it together, or it wouldn't have existed at all. "You should've told me. Why didn't you just tell me?" He questioned the other, his voice a little quiet from his mind racing.

The Leviathan.. Hummers..? suddenly dissolved back into his TV-headed form. He had a smile on his face, a smile that a little child would have after winning a cheap plush toy at a claw machine. "I didn't tell you because..Well.. I wanted to see how hard you would have pushed yourself to believe in me, and if I just started randomly telling people that I was a monster in the ocean I'd surely be hunted, no?" Hummers explained, chuckling a bit at the end.

Hummers grabbed Wifies' hands and interlaced their fingers, a position they were in before he revealed himself. "Aren't you happy? You've figured it out! The mystery behind the creature of the deep, a creature hundreds of players have been hunting! And now you, Wifies, are the first one to crack this mystery!" his voice was excited with a matter of fact tone.

"I..I just don't understand. Why post that screenshot on Reddit...Why research on something you already know the answer to..Something you are? Why set all of this up?" Wifies' brain was racing with questions, why would someone, or something do this?? For years??

"Because I wanted someone to actually search for me. Players found out about me and I was..I just... Whenever they'd start their hunts they'd immediately give up. I wanted someone strong minded, someone with patience, someone like..You. Even if I had to encourage you more into it. I wanted it to be you Wifies." Hummers explained, squeezing Wifies' hands tighter.

"But I almost gave up multiple times just like all of those other players, I don't understand why you didn't just give up right then and there. Instead you kept beating the thought of belief into my head. You didn't let me give up. Why me Hummers....?" Wifies looked down at their intertwined hands, at the others pale fingers wrapped with his own. He squeezed back just slightly, finding comfort in the feeling.

Hummers thought for a moment. He himself didn't understand why he wanted Wifies out of all players to find him, to figure this out. Why did he want Wifies? He had almost given up on him multiple times. He had almost debunked his existence as a hoax. Why did he push him?

"I don't know myself...But...I chose you. That's all that matters...My friend."

The both of them just looked at each other after the words were spoken, Hummers' smile turning soft while Wifies looked at the other with wide eyes. The silence was loud between them but it wasn't uncomfortable.

"Call me..Levi. My true name...Well, nickname." Hummers spoke, breaking the silence. He brought their hands up a bit, tilting his head the smallest bit with a grin.

"Okay then.....Levi it is." Wifies then smiled too, a small laugh escaping him. "Thank you for pushing me to solve...This...You."
