Work Text:
The coffee machine broke. Of course it fucking broke.
Agent had just dealt with probably one of the worst anomaly outbreaks the hospital had ever had to deal with, and she had accidentally slammed one of them into the fucking coffee machine, breaking it.
Now that the attack was over and she was recovering in the office, she wanted to die. Metaphorically, of course, not literally, which seemed to be a looming reality as her sanity ticked further and further down.
10%...9%....8%....
Secretary looked at her with what she would have thought was concern if it wasn’t for the fact that he immediately looked away and continued checking in patients. Fucking bastard…
While the shop was technically open, somebody had already bought the chocolate (Security, probably), which meant she was fresh out of luck. Fuck.
The door to the office opened revealing a familiar beige bunny, who was clearly worse for the wear as blood somehow stained the entirety of their outfit. She tried her best not to laugh at the gobsmacked expressions of some of the patients, wondering why the fuck somebody covered in blood was casually just…walking around.
Her tail flicked anxiously behind her as they seemingly scanned the room, stopping briefly on the (very broken) coffee machine before their eyes settled on her.
Their expression never really changed, but she could tell that they were distressed by…something, once they saw her. Maybe she looked rougher than them? Somehow?
Granted, they always looked like they had been sent to hell and back, she was usually a bit more put together. Maybe like she was only halfway to hell and back, as opposed to living there for a month and establishing a community there, then coming back.
Either way, they crossed the room, grabbing her arm to drag her out of the office. Her eyes widened, but she allowed herself to be pulled towards one of the rooms—empty, as she saw.
Then, a swift turn was made into the janitor’s closet. Heat rushed to her face as she remembered what the janitor’s closet was usually used for, especially among established couples…like herself and the Intern.
It was dark, smelling of disinfectant and soap. A little light spilled from underneath the door, illuminating the room well enough for her to see Intern sign if they so needed to.
“Uh, my dear? Why are we in here?”
All she heard was the sound of the lock sliding into place in the door.
Then, her waist was wrapped by warm, soft arms, a face buried into her neck. Then, warm, soft lips against her cheeks.
If it wasn’t for the fact that she knew Intern could hear her heartbeat, she thought she could hide her reaction pretty well.
She felt them giggle against her, then write lightly against her back.
“8…7….”
Ah. They had noticed her sanity levels. She wrapped her arms around them, smiling into their fur.
Another kiss, and she giggled like a little girl.
“Stop, dear, what is that supposed to do?”
They removed themself slightly, then reached into the front lapel of her suit, bringing out the sanity meter. 15%.
She stared at it, shocked. “You’re telling me we could’ve been doing this instead of fighting over the coffee machine?”
“And getting fired,” Intern signed with one hand. She smiled, then leaned in, pursing her lips. However, instead of the familiar warmth of Intern’s lips, she felt a finger. Her eyes opened in confusion. The little bastard’s face was curled up into a smile (as usual), a finger riiight in between the twos’ lips.
“My love…” she complained, lifting her arms to rest around their shoulders.
Then, their feet started moving. Therefore hers did, too.
They swayed side to side to some imaginary music, eyes closed. They were dancing, she slowly realized, and she smiled, eyes tracing along the blurry, dark lines of her love’s face.
The soft fur on the bridge of their nose, the flutter of their lashes as they enjoyed each others’ presences…it was sweet.
So, so sweet.
Their eyes opened, and she found it funny how they seemed to be somewhat startled by her staring.
She leaned in again, eyes closed, and this time, there was no finger blocking her destination.
A quick kiss on the lips, next to the lips, the tip of their nose, their cute little forehead, Agent wanted all of it, and Intern’s cute little giggles didn’t help their case at all.
“You’re–” chu “-so-” chu “--cute” chu.
They had stopped dancing entirely at this point, hands carefully cupping her hips instead as she practically attacked them with kisses.
She could feel the warmth of their face, and she moved her hands to cup the back of their head, probably grinning like an idiot herself.
Then, she was pulled into an all-encompassing embrace by the Intern, face automatically dug into their shoulder.
She would have been ashamed, or at least a little embarrassed, by her purring at the beginning of the relationship, but now it was so commonplace it would’ve been weird for her not to purr.
She inhaled the scent of their laundry detergent, the disinfectant, as well as the flowers and the various seasonings they used to cook. All-in-all, it smelled like home.
Ah, she could fall asleep like this. Intern was always so comfortable to hug, to embrace…she found it funny how much touchier they had become upon their relationship. From being a primarily touchless lover to being even needier than her was a very funny change, considering how bunnies weren’t a very cuddly species in the first place.
Her purrs increased in volume, and she felt Intern’s shoulders shake in laughter.
She wanted to say “what’s so funny?”, but given how her face was buried into their shoulder, nothing legible came out. They laughed anyway.
Then, a knock on the door. Aggressive.
“You nurses better not be fuckin’ in there, again!” the janitor’s cranky voice came from inside.
The two immediately burst apart like teenagers getting caught on a school field trip. Agent picked up a random bag of wipes while Intern grabbed a box of latex gloves.
They organized themselves just in time for the door to burst open, the agitated Janitor clearly jumping rope with his last nerves.
He looked almost surprised that Agent and Intern were the ones in there as opposed to the usual couple, then waved them off.
“Bah! You fuckin’ youngsters, always choosin’ the wrong room on the wrong days…y’all ain’t slick, put that shit back down.”
They didn’t need to be told twice.
Once officially in the empty room, the two met eyes and immediately began giggling at each other, Agent digging her face into their shoulder yet again, taking a deep inhale of the familiar scent.
God, they really were like teenagers.
She felt hands slowly pushing her off, and she looked at Intern inquisitively. Their hand reached into her suit yet again, pulling out her sanity meter.
52%. Wow.
She looked at them. “And you discovered this how?”
They just shrugged their shoulders. “Lucky guess.”
She just smiled at them again, then tackled them, shoving them down onto the bed, peppering their face with kisses again, them making little chirping noises underneath her.
She didn’t need to look at either of their sanity meters to know that they were both going up.
Goal, accomplished.
