“Hey Scott! Over here!”
Scott looks over the side of the boat to see Nom waving at him near some rocks not far from where he was. “Nom?”
“Come over here, I want to show you something!”
Scott smiles, leaning on the ledge with his arms. “Can’t you come over this way? We’re heading out soon anyways.”
“Nah, it can’t be brought over. You’re going to have to get off the boat and see it.”
“Nom, you and I both know exactly why I can’t do that.”
“Just one time? For me? You know I’d do anything for you, anything. No matter what.”
“Anything, hm? Even if it was something that would push your family away?” Scott’s foot finds where his staff is laying, slowly dragging it closer.
“Oh Scott, you know you’re the most important thing in my life. I’d always choose my brother over you.”
“I see…” Scott takes hold of his staff, and in one quick movement, he sends a magic burst over at ‘Nom’, who screeches inhumanly in pain. “Unfortunately for you, I’m much smarter than you take me for.”
The siren’s illusion falls, green skin and orange hair. It snarls, retreating back into the water.
Scott sighs, going back below the deck and taking a deep breath. Of course a siren would present itself as Nom to try to draw him in. It doesn’t matter that Nom is long gone, only matters who it is that you desire. Gods, it’s been almost a year now, hasn’t it? Since he saw that face as it was, as the way the siren appeared to him. It hurt. He never got the chance to tell Nom how he felt.
And then before he could, it was too late. Nom ate the resin. He was going to die. And Scott didn’t want Nom to die knowing Scott loved him the way he did.
