Work Text:

Ritsu wakes up with a start. There is a very loud, very persistent knock at his window that jolts him out of his rather peaceful sleep. Still in a groggy not quite awake state he tries to kick off his blankets while getting out of bed, only resulting in him losing balance and falling face first on his bedroom floor, blankets and all tumbling down with him. The knocking doesn't stop, if anything, it's only gotten louder. "Hold on!" Ritsu groans, definitely not loud enough for his unwelcomed guest to hear. Ritsu picks himself off of the floor and lets out a yawn before finally making it to his window.

Of course he's not surprised when he pushes back his curtains. On his balcony is the face of a familiar friend, basked in moonlight. Ritsu sighs, "Oh, good morning Suzuki."

Shou flashes a trademark childish smile and presses his face against the window "Are you gonna let me in?" Reluctantly, Ritsu unlocks his window and opens it up to let his friend climb through. A gust of cold air hits Ritsu in the face and his whole body shivers. How the hell was Suzuki surviving out there with only a light jacket? "I was starting to think you weren't awake." Ritsu almost slams the window shut.

"I wasn't." As usual Shou makes himself a little too comfortable and takes a seat on top of Ritsu's desk. "What are you doing here it's-" Ritsu floats his phone to his hands and checks the time, "it's 2:24 am. Did you walk here?” That was a dumb question, Ritsu knows that Shou’s preferred method of travel is flight.

Shou offers nothing but a shrug in response, "I couldn't sleep."

Ritsu picks up the blankets that had fallen on his floor and tosses them back onto his bed, "And because you can't sleep you're going to subject me to some late night torture?"

A noticeable frown creeps across Shou's face, "Is hanging out with me torture?"

Ritsu is quick to backpedal, "No, no, that's not what I mea- Suzuki, it's 2 am, most people are asleep at 2 am."

"Oh yeah, I know. Sorry." There’s no playful energy or teasing behind his words, it was an honest apology.

Shou is very new to the whole concept of friendship. Sure he had lackeys that he tried to do 'friend stuff' with, but at the end of the day they were still being paid to hang out with him. Ritsu wasn't being paid a cent and still wanted to hang out with Shou. Ritsu was the first person he could actually call a true friend, so naturally the red head clung to him like he could lose him at any moment. The two had become practically inseparable in the year that they have known each other. "You usually respond when I text you this late, so I kinda assumed you'd be up."

"Well I-" Ritsu stopped himself, too embarrassed to admit that he kept his phones volume up at night so it would wake him up to respond to any of Shou's late night messages. "Yeah, you're right. But those are texts, you never come by this late."

He's right. Shou is known to pop up at any given time during the day, sometimes Ritsu will come home from school to find Shou napping in his bed or shuffling though his bookshelf trying to find Ritsu's infamous diary, but he's never shown up this late in the night. "Like I said, I couldn't sleep. Moms out of town so the house is pretty empty, I guess I just wanted some company."

Oh, that's it. He was lonely. Ritsu sighs and offers what he can, "Well, you can spend the night if you'd like."

Shou's face lights up with a smile, he launches himself from Ritsu's desk to the rolling chair, and rolls himself across the room until his face to face with Ritsu, "Seriously?!"

With anyone else Ritsu would be annoyed, even disgusted, with such unapologetic childish behavior. But for some otherworldly reason, Ritsu finds Shou's child-like wonder and energy utterly charming. Ritsu does his best to keep a straight face to combat his friends over-enthusiasm. "Yeah, but you have to leave in the morning. I have school."

Shou crawls into Ritsu's bed and makes himself comfortable by wrapping up in Ritsu’s blankets. "Will you read me a bedtime story?" He asks in a smug, childish voice that makes Ritsu grit his teeth.

"Who said you were sleeping in my bed?"

"Oh, you're not seriously going to make me sleep in the floor are you?! Ritsu that's just cruel! I'm your guest!”

"An uninvited guest." Ritsu tosses one of his blankets back on the floor, "There isn't enough room for both of us."

“We could just cuddle up real close." Shou flashes a sickeningly sweet smile, “I like being the little spoon.”

Ritsu feels his face heat up and he’s not exactly sure if its because of annoyance or embarrassment at Shou’s suggestion "Suzuki."

"Fine," Shou grumbles and crawls off of the bed, getting under the blanket on the floor. "Do I get a pillow at least?" A pillow hits him square in the face. Shou just laughs and tries to make himself comfortable on the carpet floor. "Someone is a bit grumpy."

"Well, you would be too if someone woke you up at 2 am begging for attention." Ritsu was finally back in bed, not realizing how tired he was until his cheek rested against his pillow.

"I wasn't-"

"Goodnight, Suzuki."

"Do I at least get a goodnight kiss?"

Another pillow hits him in the face.
