Work Text:
achandler slowly drifts awake in veronica's bed, she sits up looking around for veronica, the girl who allegedly fell asleep next to her.
the room is empty, and mostly quiet, besides the sound of rain hitting against the roof and window.
chandler swings her legs off the bed, standing up.
she exits the room to find veronica.
the kitchen light being on catches her attention.
chandler walks into the kitchen, finding veronica sitting at the table writing in a small book.
she watches as veronica takes a sip of what's assumably coffee.
chandler clears her throat making her presence known.
veronica turns, facing the other girl.
"hi. i thought you were sleeping." veronica mutters, as chandler walks over to her.
"i thought the same thing. why are you up?" chandler asks, sitting down in the chair next to veronica.
veronica puts her pen down and shuts her book.
"couldn't sleep." veronica replies, going to take another sip of the coffee.
chandler grabs her wrist before she can grab the cup.
"couldn't or wouldn't?" chandler asks, grabbing the mug and pulling it away from veronica.
veronica's shoulder slump, then she replies.
"wouldn't. i just didn't feel like sleeping." veronica mutters, waiting for chandler to return her mug.
"well, to bad. you've had enough coffee." chandler says, getting up from the table.
she grabs veronica's mug and dumps the coffee into the sink, placing the mug in the sink to be washed later.
"c'mon. grab your book, its bedtime." chandler says, pushing in her chair.
"no way. im almost done writing." veronica says, going to pick up her pen.
chandler quickly swipes the book and the pen.
"no. bed, now, sawyer." chandler demands, holding the book tightly in her hands.
veronica lets out a sigh, then gets up from the table.
"fine." she mutters.
"good, now lets go."chandler says, offering her hand to veronica.
veronica stares for a moment then takes it.
the two walk back to veronica's room. holding hands as they walk.
once back in veronica's room chandler flops back onto her bed, wiggling to the spot she claimed.
veronica lays next to chandler on her back.
chandler shuts her eyes, lying on her side.
veronica's eyes stay wide open as she listens to the storm rage outside.
she stares at chandler, who's facing the wall.
a loud rumble of thunder from outside causes veronica to jump a bit.
veronica's hand grip her blanket, as she stares at her window.
every rumble reminds her of the explosion.
every flash of lightning does the same.
she used to find comfort in the sounds but now it brings dread.
she rolls onto her side.
"heather, are you still up?" veronica whispers, earning a small groan from chandler.
"go to sleep, veronica." chandler says, rolling onto her back.
"i can't." veronica mutters.
chandler lets out a small yawn then speaks again.
"too much coffee?" chandler asks, wrapping an arm around her.
veronica stays quiet for a moment, contemplating if she should tell the truth, about the thing with JD.
its tense for a second then veronica mutters "no, i just hate the rain."
chandler gently pulls her closer, placing a kiss on her forehead, causing a small blush on veronica's face.
"well, im here, and I'll protect you from the rain. its just water and noise." chandler says, keeping her arms protectively around veronica.
veronica rests her head on the other girls chest, finally letting herself relax.
"okay. I'll trust you on that." veronica mutters, snuggling into chandlers touch.
"good. now sleep." chandler says, gently rubbing the shorter girls back.
veronica slowly drifts off in chandlers arms, chandler only daring to sleep after veronica has fallen asleep, just to make sure she wouldn't get up again.
veronica sleeps peacefully for the rest of the night in chandlers arms.
