The text stared up at him from his phone, growing shakier the longer he looked at them. He blinked and felt a tear escape.
“Fuck,” he breathed. It took him longer than it should have to realize that it wasn’t the words that were shaky, it was his hands.

Three shots and a mixed drink later —some sort of cocktail he couldn’t be bothered to taste— Shane found himself being dragged along again. The air outside was warm and humid, and he undid the top two buttons of his shirt.
The group corralled him into a club further down the strip, and Shane had barely a moment to adjust to the blaring music and the colourful lights before he was at the bar. His fourth shot of the night went down much easier than the first, and the blessed, blessed heat continued to circulate through his body.

OR; Shane leaves the penthouse and finds his way back to the MVP banquet. A few drinks later, he sends the text. He doesn’t know what he expected, but it certainly wasn’t being rescued by his arch-rival turned situationship after accidentally getting wasted on the Las Vegas strip.
