She takes a sharp right into the McDonald's drive-through.
You wake with a start. She orders for you.
Blinking sleep from your tired eyes, you don't try to object, even though it's the third time in as many days you have nothing but junk food.
Black shades and cap firmly in place, she pays without looking at the pockmarked teen worker.
As you get back on the highway, you obediently eat your burger. It tastes like sand.
On the radio, a mournful voice tugs at your chest.
We gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way
