Work Text:
“What are you doing?” Nom creeps up behind the other, his hands finding purchase on Scott’s waist as he attempts to peer over his shoulder, blond hair tickling his cheek.
“Working on making water breathing potions. Don’t you have captain duties to do?” His voice sounds a bit exasperated, but in an affectionate way. It was cute. Everything about Scott was cute or gorgeous or hot or just full on like a deity. Nom can’t quite understand what he’s done to get so damn lucky.
“Yes.”
“So…why aren’t you doing them?”
“Because I want to be with you.”
“That’s really sweet bud, but do you really want Katie or Mae steering the ship?”
The dragon thought about it. He had told them he’s taking a break to go below deck and to figure it out themselves who wants to steer, but does he want them to? No, not really. But he had to pick between the disdain of either of the two driving (or arguing who should drive) and likely doing the thing they did where they got distracted very easily, or seeing Scott.
Well, (Well, Well) it’s obvious what he chose.
“Hm, we’ll live.” The captain nuzzles his face into the crook of the others neck, drowning in the floral scent that has now mixed with the salty air of the ocean. Gods above, he could die like this, holding Scott, having Scott. Scott’s his and he’s Scott’s. That thought sends a tremor of delight to his dragon brain, tail thudding in agreement.
“Will we?” The mage responds, tilting his head back slightly.
“It’ll be fineee.” He drags out the last word if not to exaggerate his point.
The other just sighs. “I’m sure we will.”
“Mhm. Also, have I told you how pretty you are today?”
“Only three separate times, four now.”
“That’s not enough.”
Scott’s ears twitch, surely indicating a smirk that Nom can’t quite see. “When I first met you never in a million years would I believe that one day you’d be so very clingy.”
“You like that I’m clingy.”
The other shrugs, though he leans his body against Nom. So pretty, he lays a kiss on top of the mage’s head.
All mine.
Scott sighs, melting into the captain’s arms. He presses more pecks on top of the messy curls. Mine, mine, mine. He feels as if he’s conquered the world and this is his treasure. Something more precious than gold or diamonds.
And it’s all his.
The dragon buried his face into the blonde (like honey or something just as sweet) hair. “Mine.” The words are a breath at most, but he feels the needs to say them aloud.
“Yours.” His mage confirms.
“What have I just walked into.” A familiar slime’s voice rings out, followed by an annoying redhead’s sharp intake of breath.
Scott jerks out from Nom’s grasp, and the latter whips around.
“Uh, hi?” The blonde awkwardly says from behind him, the other’s face likely going a bright red if the tone of his voice is anything to go off of. Nom’s ears mimic that, heat flushing the tips.
4c tries to slip out onto the open deck, away from the open entryway and whatever the fuck this is, but Katie grabs his wrist, giving him a look that says nope. “Hello Nominal. Hi Scott.” His sister glances between the elf and captain as the rogue behind her mouthes Fuck you, glaring. It’s no surprise when she doesn’t see his annoyed cursing, instead just continuing to talk (Katie-go-blind). “Do you mind explaining to us what we just saw?”
“Actually I do.” The brunette can feel the half-elf’s disapproving frown.
“That was a rhetorical question for your consent. Spill.” The redhead crosses her arms, positioning her body in a way to block off the exit, as if the dragon’s desperate enough to run. And even if he was, which he’s not, he could still easily get past her.
Nom raises a brow at the theatrics. “How about no?”
“Yes.”
“Nuh-uh.”
“Yes.”
“Nope.”
“Nom I will lock this door and not let you leave till you answer my question.”
“You wouldn’t.” Being stuck with Katie for hours on end is just about his worst nightmare.
“Oh I would.”
Scott intersects exasperatedly, seemingly done with the useless back and forth, knowing Nom could care less if Katie knew and at this point was just being stubborn. Which he’s is, but still. “We’re dating.” Katie gasps, and 4c gives her a baffled look.
“Wait. You didn’t know?”
She gasps once more. God the dramatics of these people. “YOU DID?!” She shrieks.
Suddenly, Mae basically just appears between them, like a ferret popping out of their hole. She give Katie the most confused expression, eyes squinting as if trying to pick apart exactly what’s going on. “What’s happening, why’d you scream?”
“They’re dating!” His sister points accusatorially at Nom and Scott. Again, with the dramatics.
“THEY’RE—oh wait, yeah no I knew that.” Mae nods as if this is common knowledge. Nom winces at the memory of how the rogue found out they were dating—well they weren’t even dating at the time. This unfortunate train of thought is cut off quickly by Katie’s face; it goes through the five stages of grief before landing on something between utterly baffled, and offended.
“WHAT!?”
Scott behind him flinches at the loud noise, before speaking in a much softer tone. “Guys I feel like we have more pressing issues than me and Nom dating.”
“Like what?” Katie huffs dramatically, and 4c rolls his eyes.
“Like, if we’re all here whose steering the ship?”
What ensues is pure chaos, and the captain wouldn’t have it any other way.
