Work Text:
Hiccup doesn’t know how long it’s been since he’s had any water, other than that it’s been too long. His lips are dry and his head is pounding. His wrists, too, ache something awful from the way they’ve been tied up this whole time. He can feel his muscles cramping up and he groans, closing his eyes and tilting his head back.
And to think, he’s dealing with all of this because he refused to answer the questions Viggo had been asking him.
Hiccup had, at first, been grateful when Viggo hadn’t allowed Ryker to try and beat the answers out of him. But then Viggo started bringing him less and less food and water, asking Hiccup the same questions every time he brought things down to him. And then finally he showed up with questions and nothing else.
So now Hiccup is hungry and dehydrated, dizzy beyond belief, and kind of wishing Viggo had had Ryker beat him instead of this.
He hears the footsteps he’s long since learned are Viggo’s; he thinks he’d know them anywhere by now. Hiccup keeps his eyes closed, dry tongue darting out to lick his dry lips; everything is so dry, it hurts.
“Are you ready to answer my questions yet, my dear?” Viggo asks, approaching Hiccup’s cell.
Normally, he’d say something snarky, and tell Viggo to fuck off. Normally, his throat doesn’t feel as though he’s swallowed sand.
“Please…” Hiccup croaks. Even just that single word hurts, his voice rough like nails scraping their way out of his throat.
“‘Please,’ what?” Viggo prompts, knowing exactly what Hiccup is begging for, but making him talk when it so obviously pains him to is just too good of an opportunity to pass up.
“...water… please…” Hiccup coughs, dry and unpleasant.
“I thought you might ask for that.” Viggo hums, entering Hiccup’s cell; he already has a cup of water in hand that he brought down with him.
Hearing the cell door creak open, Hiccup finally opens his eyes. He sees the cup of water and feels relief wash over him. Viggo grabs Hiccup’s chin, tilting his head up. Hiccup doesn’t fight him; he’s too tired and drowsy from the lack of water to even think of fighting him.
“Open your mouth, my dear,” Viggo tells him, and Hiccup lets his lips part. Viggo brings the cup of water to his lips and slowly gives Hiccup a sip of it; a small one, but a sip nonetheless. Hiccup is grateful to get any water at all.
Viggo takes the still mostly full cup away, and asks again, “Are you ready to answer my questions now?”
Hiccup merely gives him a weak glare in response.
“Tsk. You truly know how to make things difficult.” Viggo sighs. “Very well though. We’ll try again tomorrow, hm?”
“But since you won’t be talking today…” Viggo holds the cup up, and slowly pours out the water inside of it right in front of Hiccup, “…then you won’t be getting any more water today, either.”
