Work Text:

Hiccup is no stranger to the feeling of being shocked. By lightning, that is; and the emotion as well, but that’s not what he means in this case. No, in this case he’s dealing with lightning yet again.

Apparently, when rumors reach groups of people on the edges of the archipelago about a rider of the unholy offspring of lightning and death, those people get some ideas. Hiccup is now paying the price of those ideas.

This group that managed to capture him and Toothless seem to believe that he’s some kind of… tamer of lightning. And since their village is often plagued by lightning storms… well. They figured the best way to have him tame the lightning was to tie him to a metal pole in the middle of an open area at the highest point of their island.

Hiccup really should have stayed home today.

Storm clouds gather overhead as rain begins to pour down. His hair is slicked down, sticking to his face, and if he could hold his hand out in front of him (y’know… if they weren’t tied behind him) he’s willing to bet he’d barely be able to see it with how hard the rain is coming down.

Thunder booms in the sky around him, and a crack of lightning lands too close for comfort. The air smells crisp, almost metallic even. Hiccup has a feeling that the next time the lightning strikes, it will hit the pole that he’s tied to.

He is really, really not looking forward to that.

As he feels the air around him heat up, Hiccup braces himself, knowing what that feeling means. Through experience, he knows how hot lightning is; it always makes the sky feel warmer.

The lightning strikes, running down the pole and through him. His body feels like it’s on fire, burning him from the inside out. He stiffens, muscles spasming and an awful sting flowing through him. Then, not even a full few seconds later, comes the sensation of a crash landing with Toothless; a feeling similar to the impact of hitting the ground hard.

As more thunder sounds out around him, Hiccup slips into unconsciousness.
