Chapter Text
“If you’re nothing without the suit, then you should not have it.”
Tony shifted his weight onto his left leg, stretching slightly so that his joints strained and tightened as he clenched his jaw, a hint of disappointment masked by deep anger rising on his aged face. Moments passed, without a single word from him nor the usually energetic brunette.
“You don’t mean that”
Peter insisted, trying to sound confident although his shaky voice failed him. The older man raised an eyebrow at his quiver, crossing his arms warningly which he found himself doing more and more these days as if daring Peter to challenge him. He keeps his gaze locked on the smaller boy, narrowing with each second. Then;
“Give me the suit.”
The demand rang through the air, settling unexpectedly on the younger ears.
“No please- *please* it’s all I have. It’s all I am.”
He attempted to justify, shaking his head vigorously while his eyes widened in betrayal.
Tony only glared at him, his hand extended waiting for the suit to be given to him that very moment. Peter soon understood that no amount of begging or apologising would get Mr stark to change his stubborn mind.
After a minute, Peter’s head dropped to the ground. Scheming. Planning. Anything to get out of this, the seconds ticked on and the younger boy started to feel anger rising.
This suit. This life- Spiderman was the one good thing to happen to him in his miserable sixteen years of life on this earth, and now another adult was letting him down, taking his freedom, his livelihood. The youngers hand curled into a first, biting back harsh words.
“What about my internship?” Peter’s voice shook, almost as if he was too scared to ask. Surely Tony wouldn’t take that too? Although, maybe it was only conditional? If he wasn’t spiderman, Tony would never have offered the internship, and now he was taking both away. What was he going to tell May? What about the extra money they needed?
The older man sighed, unrelenting.
“Well, yes it seems like it will be revoked until you can learn that your actions have consequences. What you do impacts everyone Peter, not just you or me.” He explained.
“Mr stark-“
“Peter I mean it. I’m not arguing with you on this, you continue to put yourself in harms way. What happens if you die? Then what? The press find out I let a sixteen year old kid into the avengers and then I’m in all sorts of trouble.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t have let me in!” Peter bit back.
Tony looked him up and down, as if Peter continued to prove his point about being reckless. Then, he lowered his voice and made eye contact with the younger.
“Believe me kid, I regret that decision even more every single day.”
Those words seemed to be the final nail on the coffin, Peter’s chocolate eyes gloss over completely. Tony catches it before he jets his head away from the older man’s gaze.
A moment passes, then Peter throws his mask at his former mentor. It hits him in the chest and then flails to the ground unceremoniously.
“Fuck you, Stark”.
Those words catch Tony by surprise, he raises his eyebrows clearly caught off guard. Peter had never sworn, let alone at him. Tony knew he was just throwing a tantrum at this point and needed time to cool down. But he wasn’t about to let the younger boy disrespect him like that.
“Right that’s it, until reinstated your entry to Stark tower, and any other related facilities has been revoked and you are thus banned from entering the grounds Mr Parker.”
“No- no please! You cant do this-“
“Don’t test me anymore kid. It’s very clear you lack a certain male role model in your life.”
Peter screws his face up at that, who was Stark to be saying such things? He’d known the boy a couple months at best.
Thwip
Peter slung into the air, putting as much distance between him and iron man as possible. Unmasked he swung through the darkness, reckless and emotional all the way to down town queens. He knew May worked a late shift tonight so he carelessly and loudly burst through his bedroom window.
He growled and angrily tore his suit off, throwing it across the room. It wasn’t enough, no. So he started tearing into his bookshelves, smashing parts of his hand built and moded computer system until it was almost unfixable.
A few minutes pass, his anger finally retreating. He looks around at his destroyed room and sinks to the floor, curled in on himself. Only then, does the young hero let himself cry.
