Summary
“Okay.” Abigail lets out a shaky breath, fresh tears slipping from her glassy, broken eyes.
He almost wants to go to her, to offer her a hug, because she’s still his friend at the end of everything…
But he doesn’t.
“Okay,” She repeats, “So you’ll apply to other hospitals. You’ll finish your residency somewhere else. We’ll change your number—”
“Abigail—” He tries, and her voice raises.
“No!” Her voice is thick, “No, you let me fucking speak, Frank!”
“Okay.” He sighs, letting her have the floor.
“If you want to save this marriage, you need to do exactly what I just said.” Her voice breaks a little as she continues, “We need to move. You can’t see her again—”
“I can’t.” He lets himself admit, his own voice thick as he realizes that there’s really no going back, at this point. This is it. This is the end of his marriage.
“What do you mean you can’t?” She cries out, “Frank, is eight years really worth eight months?”
It absolutely is. Mel’s worth everything to him.
“I can’t.” He repeats himself, “I love her.”
