Legend's favourite thing when he's little is his Big Blanket

Work Text:

Legend loved the things his family got for his regression. The fact they cared enough to get him things they knew he would like made his chest and tummy feel warm and fluttery and sometimes he had to stop and flap his hands or rock or just squeak for a few moments from all the happy. He loved his bunny plush, his paci, his plush cubes, his stim toys, and everything else.

But by far his favourite thing was the blanket Ravio had gifted him after his sixth adventure. It was a soft, quilted thing, made of pretty colourful squares (most of them purple), and the most comfortable blanket he had ever owned. It was large enough to cover the biggest bed in the house with room to spare.

Naturally, Legend called it his Big Blanket.

He'd brought it on his newest adventure- actually, Ravio had packed it, and when Legend found it he'd only winked and said, "But what if it gets cold on this newest quest, Mr. Hero? I can't have my favourite customer freeze!" The sneak knew Legend only used it when he was small, and likewise only pulled out the 'favourite customer' nickname then too.

So Big Blanket had stayed in his pack, at least until he felt comfortable enough with his new companions to tell them about his regression. Now he pulled it out whenever they stopped at an inn or one of their houses and he was feeling small. Less often when they were camping, but Ravio had spelled the thing to the Sacred Realm and back to keep it from getting dirty or torn, so he didn't have to worry too much.

Sometimes he'd wrap himself up to nap, or around his brothers to share the warmth it held. But his favourite thing to do with Big Blanket was to be swaddled up and carried around. It made him feel extra small and safe, especially if Twilight or Time were the ones carrying him.

Most of the time, he'd go up to them, Big Blanket in his arms, and they'd wrap him up. But sometimes he'd liked to make it more of a game: he'd hand the, Big Blanket and then dash away when they moved to catch him, giggles spilling from his mouth as they chased him around. It was one of the few times he enjoyed being chased, since it always ended in laughter and warmth and comfort.

After he was caught he was scooped up and carried around as his brothers cooed, whoever was holding him alternating between rocking and bouncing him gently. It never failed to make him relaxed and sleepy, and he nearly always ended up napping. He'd wake up warm and cozy, joints loose and mind pleasantly fuzzy.

Big Blanket in his arms, Legend pattered towards where his brothers were gathered around the fireplace. They'd ended up at Wild's house and just as the last of them made it inside it had started to rain. They'd quickly made a fire and stripped off their gear, relaxing and laughing about something Legend couldn't hear as Wild puttered around in the kitchen.

Legend had begun feeling fuzzy pretty soon after they'd settled in, and it was short work to get out of his dirty travel clothes and into a much comfier tunic before pulling out Big Blanket.

"Baba! Baba!" His brothers turned around at his call, expressions morphing into smiles as he drew near, Big Blanket spilling out of his arms to trail along the floor behind him. Time reached out,  eye warm, but Legend stopped just out of reach. "Baba, blanket!"

"Is it Big Blanket time, bun?"

"Uh-huh!" Legend nodded very seriously, hefting Big Blanket up in an attempt to keep it off the floor. If he had a tail it'd be twitching madly.

He allowed Baba to take Big Blanket from him before leaping away as it went to wrap around him, giggles spilling from his mouth in childish glee at the chance to play his favourite game.

"Oh, that's how we're doing it today," Baba chuckled. Legend giggled again, darting away as Baba pushed himself to his feet.

They went back and forth across the house, Baba getting close and Legend jumping out of reach, laughing all the while.

Baba lunged and Legend dodged, taking the opportunity to dart up the stairs to the loft. He only realized his mistake when he turned around to find Baba cresting the top of the stairs, blocking the only way down. He eyed the banister but dismissed it a moment later; if he was big, maybe he'd take the chance and jump down to the floor below, but he was small and that was scary. Maybe he could wait for Baba to get closer and then scramble over the bed and around him to-

His thoughts were suddenly derailed as he was nabbed and swiftly wrapped up. He shrieked, wriggling fiercely as he was hefted and carried back down the stairs over Baba's shoulder like a sack of feed.

The world spun for a moment and he let out an 'oof-!' He blinked and found himself looking up at Baba, who had a playful grin on his face, single eye twinkling.

"Got you!" Baba leaned down and rubbed his nose against Legend's before peppering his cheeks with kisses. Legend was quick to fall into giggles, trying and failing to push away, trapped in the blanket. "There's my happy bunny. Did you have fun?"

Legend nodded, shifting to bonk his head against Baba's chest.

Now that the chase was over he felt his energy beginning to drain, like water from a tub. He sighed, letting himself go limp. Baba huffed a fond laugh and adjusted his grip. Legend gave a sleepy hum before a yawn slipped free and there was quiet laughter.

"Now it's time for small bunnies to sleep." Baba began to rock gently from side to side, humming a quiet tune that made Legend's mind go quiet and calm. He yawned again and snuggled closer, letting out a little purr when he felt a kiss pressed to his brow.

     "Sleep well, bun."
