Work Header

the art of holding on without squeezing too tight

Summary:

Gemini prides himself on being the understanding boyfriend. He knows Fourth’s heart belongs to his family first, his friends second, and the entire world third. He knows Fourth is naturally affectionate—kissing Phuwin on the cheek, clinging to Satang, flirting playfully with Mark, or being a total gentleman around girls. Gemini gets it. Truly.

Until Toyota puts Fourth next to Ally, and Fourth looks a little too good.

A story about unspoken jealousy, a very soft mansion invasion, and a golf ball that changes everything.

Work Text:

Gemini Norawit considered himself a master of emotional regulation.

He was twenty-two years old, possessed a bright career, owned a sprawling new home that his friends jokingly called a museum, and had the single most precious person in the world currently snoring softly against his left shoulder in the back of a tinted GMMTV van.

He glanced down. Fourth’s face was smushed against the fabric of Gemini’s oversized hoodie, lips slightly parted, dark eyelashes casting soft shadows over his cheekbones. Automatically, Gemini reached down, resting his hand gently over the back of Fourth’s neck, thumb rhythmically caressing the warm skin right beneath the hairline.

Fourth hummed in his sleep, instinctively nuzzling deeper into Gemini’s side.

Bii, Gemini thought, his chest aching with a warmth so heavy it felt almost painful. My BiBii.

To the rest of the world, they were GeminiFourth—the legendary ship, the synchronized duo, the lifelong best friends who shared a dynamic so naturally intimate that fans constantly speculated. To the public, they were safe, playful, and affectionate in that chaotic GMMTV artist way.

To each other, they were everything. They had been dating in secret for over a year now. No grand public declarations, no official press releases, just quiet nights at Gemini’s new house, lingering kisses in empty dressing rooms, and a private language built on whispers and pet names.

Gemini called Fourth Bii. Fourth called Gemini Bok.

It was perfect. Except for the small fact that Fourth Nattawat was, by nature, a creature made entirely of affection and completely devoid of boundaries.

"Hey, Fot!"

The van stopped outside the building, and the door slid open. Mark Pakin leaned in, grinning. Before Gemini could even react, Fourth jolted awake, blinked his big, glossy eyes, and immediately launched himself forward into Mark’s arms.

"P'Mark!" Fourth whined, his voice raspy with sleep as he wrapped his legs around Mark’s waist like a koala. Mark caught him effortlessly, laughing and pressing a dramatic, noisy kiss straight onto Fourth’s cheek.

Gemini sat still in the back seat. His hand remained suspended in the air where Fourth’s neck had been two seconds ago.

He kept his smile perfectly neutral. It’s fine, Gemini reminded himself. Mark is his brother. Fourth hugs everyone. He hugged Satang like that yesterday. He kissed Phuwin’s forehead on an Instagram live three days ago.

"Gem, you coming?" Mark called out, still carrying Fourth on his hip like a giant toddler. Fourth was giggling, burying his nose into Mark’s shoulder.

"Yeah," Gemini said smoothly, grabbing his bag. "Just gathering my things."

He stepped out of the van, feeling a tiny, sharp prick in the center of his chest. He shoved it down immediately. He wasn’t going to be that boyfriend. He wasn’t going to be possessive or insecure. Fourth was a naughty, affectionate cat; you couldn't get mad at a cat as cute as his Fourth.

If there was one thing Gemini respected above all else, it was Fourth’s devotion to his family.

Gemini was sitting on the floor of his brand-new mansion’s living room, surrounded by unpacked boxes and modern furniture that still smelled like factory paint. They were supposed to have a movie night—their first proper night off in three weeks. Gemini had ordered Fourth’s favorite salmon sashimi, dimmed the smart lights, and lined up a horror movie Fourth had been begging to see.

Fourth’s phone rang just as Gemini handed him a pair of chopsticks.

Fourth looked at the screen, and his entire demeanor changed instantly. He answered on the first ring. "Mae?"

Gemini watched silently as Fourth listened to his mother’s voice over the line. Within ten seconds, Fourth’s expression shifted from relaxed to laser-focused.

"Okay. Don't touch it, Mae. I'm coming right now. No, it's fine, I'm not doing anything important."

Fourth hung up, already scrambling to his feet. He looked at Gemini, eyes wide with genuine distress. "Bok, I'm so sorry. My mom's car broke down near her studio, and my sister needs to be picked up from her class. I have to go."

Gemini didn't even hesitate. He stood up, grabbing Fourth’s jacket from the couch and handing it to him. "Go, Bii. Do you need me to drive you? Take my car."

"No, I'll take a cab, it's faster," Fourth said frantically, zipping up his jacket. He grabbed Gemini by the lapels of his shirt, pulled him down, and pressed a hard, sweet kiss to Gemini’s lips. "I'll make it up to you, I promise. Eat the salmon without me, okay? I love you, Bok."

"Love you too, Bii. Drive safe. Call me when you get there."

The front door clicked shut. Gemini stood alone in his massive, empty living room, the quiet humming of the refrigerator the only sound in the house.

He looked at the two sets of chopsticks on the coffee table. He didn't feel an ounce of anger about the canceled date. Not a bit. Fourth loved his mom and sister more than life itself, and Gemini loved Fourth because he was the kind of person who would drop everything for the people he cared about.

He just wished... well. Gemini took a piece of salmon and chewed it slowly. He just wished he could be the person Fourth ran to when things got overwhelming, too.

The real trouble started on a Tuesday afternoon during a break at the GMMTV studio.

Gemini was sitting in the artist lounge, scrolling through Twitter on his phone. His feed was normally full of fan edits, schedule updates, and memes. But today, the timeline was entirely consumed by one specific commercial launch.

Toyota.

Gemini tapped on the trend. The main promotional video loaded in high definition.

There was Fourth, looking unbelievably sharp in a tailored blazer, smiling that bright, blinding smile that usually made Gemini’s heart skip a beat. And right next to him was Ally.

Ally—gorgeous, insanely talented, radiant—was laughing as Fourth held open the car door for her like a total classic gentleman. In the video, Fourth offered her his hand, guided her into the passenger seat, and flashed a soft, dimpled smile that Gemini knew intimately well.

The comments were exploding: — "OH MY GOD THEY LOOK SO GOOD TOGETHER??" — "Fourth is such a natural gentleman with girls, look at how he treats her!" — "Visual attack! Can we get them in a drama together please??"

Gemini stared at the screen. His thumb hovered over the video, replaying the three-second clip where Fourth looked into Ally’s eyes and smiled.

It shouldn't have bothered him. It really shouldn't have. Gemini had shot videos with female leads before—he literally is also really good friends with Ally! But seeing Fourth—his sweet, clingy, wild Fourth—acting like a smooth, charismatic gentleman toward a girl...

Then, his mind unhelpfully brought up another memory: Fourth starring with Prim in the "Every Single Day" music video. Fourth had looked so effortless, so soft, leaning close to her, playing the perfect romantic prince.

Why does he look so good with girls? Gemini thought, feeling a sudden, strange tightness in his chest. He looks so natural. What if... what if he eventually wants someone normal? Someone he doesn't have to hide in the shadows with?

"If you stare at that phone any harder, you're going to burn a hole through the screen, Gem."

Gemini jumped slightly, quickly locking his phone and looking up.

Phuwin was leaning against the doorway, a cup of iced Americano in his hand, observing Gemini with an uncomfortably sharp, perceptive gaze.

"Phuwin," Gemini said, trying to force his signature relaxed smile. "Hey. I was just checking Twitter."

Phuwin walked over and took a seat on the couch across from him. He took a slow sip of his coffee. "Right. And did Twitter personally offend your ancestors, or do you always look like you're plotting a murder when you watch Fourth's new ads?"

Gemini flushed instantly. "I'm not—I wasn't plotting anything! It's a great ad. He looks great."

"He does," Phuwin agreed smoothly. Then he leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "So why do you look like a kicked puppy?"

Gemini looked away, biting the inside of his cheek. "I don't. I'm just tired. New house stuff."

"Gemini," Phuwin said gently, dropping the teasing tone. "You've been quiet all week. Whenever Fourth kisses Satang's cheek, or hugs Sky, or wraps himself around Nani during shoots, you pull this exact face. You smile, but your eyes look totally blank. You're sulking."

"I am not sulking," Gemini defended softly, though his voice lacked conviction. He ran a hand through his hair, letting out a frustrated sigh. "Look... Fourth is friendly. He's clingy with everyone. I know that. I'm not going to be some controlling, jealous boyfriend who tells him he can't hug his friends or act with pretty girls. He deserves to shine. I don't want him to think I'm weak or possessive."

Phuwin watched him for a long moment, his expression softening with deep understanding.

"Gem," Phuwin said quietly. "Being jealous doesn't make you weak. It just means you love him. And hiding it because you're trying to be the 'perfect, understanding partner' is just going to eat you alive."

"I'm fine," Gemini insisted, though he couldn't look Phuwin in the eye. "Really. Don't tell him anything. Promise me."

Phuwin raised an eyebrow, taking another sip of his coffee. "Sure, Gem. Whatever you say."

Phuwin did not keep his promise.

Twenty minutes later, Fourth was in the middle of a fitting when his phone buzzed with a text from Phuwin:

Phuwin: Your boyfriend was moping in the lounge looking like a tragic male lead in a drama. Go fix your man, Fot. He’s jealous of your Toyota ad and he thinks he’s being subtle about it.

Fourth read the text twice. His eyes widened.

Bok? Jealous?

Without a second thought, Fourth stripped off the designer jacket he was trying on, threw his plain t-shirt back over his head, and grabbed his bag.

"Fourth? We still have three more outfits!" the stylist called out.

"I'm so sorry, Phi'! Emergency! I'll come back tomorrow first thing!" Fourth yelled over his shoulder, already sprinting down the hallway.

He didn't take a cab. He practically bribed a motorcycle taxi to weave through Bangkok’s brutal evening traffic, heading straight for the quiet, gated neighborhood where Gemini’s new mansion stood.

When Gemini arrived home an hour later, exhausted and feeling thoroughly sorry for himself, he opened his front door to find the lights already on.

Sitting right in the center of his massive, pristine living room floor was Fourth. He had ordered three boxes of pizza, laid out a picnic blanket over Gemini's expensive hardwood floor, and was wearing one of Gemini’s oversized grey hoodies that dragged past his fingertips.

Gemini froze at the entrance, his keys dangling from his fingers. "Bii? What are you doing here? I thought you had fittings until 8 PM."

Fourth stood up immediately. He didn't say a word. He walked straight across the living room, closed the distance between them, and threw his arms around Gemini’s neck, pulling himself up so Gemini had to catch him by the thighs.

"Whoa—Bii!" Gemini caught him instinctively, stumbling back a step.

Fourth buried his face into the crook of Gemini’s neck, inhaling deeply. "Bok," he mumbled against Gemini’s skin. "You smell like me. Good."

"What happened? Is everything okay with your mom?" Gemini asked, concerned, holding Fourth tightly.

Fourth pulled back just enough to look Gemini in the eyes. His gaze was fierce, adorable, and completely focused.

"Nothing is wrong with my mom," Fourth said sternly. "Phuwin told me."

Gemini’s heart dropped. "Phuwin told you what?"

"That you were sitting in the lounge looking like a sulky baby because of my Toyota ad!" Fourth stated, puffing out his cheeks.

Gemini’s face instantly flushed bright red. He tried to set Fourth down, but Fourth locked his legs tighter around Gemini’s waist like a persistent burr. "I wasn't sulking! Phuwin exaggerated. I was just... thinking."

"You were jealous!" Fourth declared, a victorious, sweet little smile breaking across his face. "My Bok was jealous because of Ally."

"I was not—okay, fine! Maybe a little bit!" Gemini burst out, unable to hold it in anymore. He hid his blushing face in Fourth’s shoulder. "You looked really good with her, okay? And you kiss Phuwin and Satang all the time, and you're so gentle with everyone, and I just... I didn't want to say anything because I don't want to be annoying. I know you love your family, I know you love your friends, and I didn't want to be the dramatic boyfriend who gets upset over a car commercial!"

Fourth went completely quiet.

Gemini held his breath, suddenly terrified he had said too much.

Then, Fourth let out a soft, breathy laugh. He wrapped his hands around Gemini’s cheeks, forcing Gemini to look at him.

"Bok," Fourth said softly, his thumb gently tracing Gemini’s cheekbone. "Look at me."

Gemini looked.

"I act like a gentleman with girls because my mom taught me to be one," Fourth said, his voice dropping into a tender, quiet register. "I cling to Satang and Mark and Phuwin because they're my brothers, and I'm a chaotic idiot. But Bok..."

Fourth leaned in and pressed a slow, deep kiss to Gemini’s lips—sweet, warm, and entirely possessive.

"I don't bring pizza to Mark's house," Fourth murmured against his lips. "I don't put on Phuwin's clothes. I don't give Satang my whole heart. I only give that to you."

Gemini’s heart did a violent, joyful somersault in his chest. "Bii..."

"If you're jealous, tell me," Fourth pouted, tapping Gemini’s nose. "Don't hide it and hurt all by yourself in your big empty house! I'm your boyfriend. You're allowed to be greedy with me, Bok."

Gemini smiled, the heavy weight in his chest completely evaporating into nothingness. He squeezed Fourth tight, kissing his cheek, his jaw, his temple, until Fourth was squealing with laughter.

"Okay," Gemini whispered, pressing their foreheads together. "I'll be greedy."

The true test of their bond, however, came two weeks later on a bright, sweltering Sunday morning.

Gemini had always liked playing golf, a hobby he found relaxing amidst his chaotic schedules. He was at a driving range on the outskirts of Bangkok with a few senior actors, enjoying the crisp morning air and working on his swing.

Then, a freak accident happened.

A novice player two bays over mishit a driver with tremendous, uncontrolled force. The golf ball struck a steel support pillar, ricocheted wildly at an impossible angle, and hit Gemini square on the side of his right knee before he even had time to react.

CRACK.

"AARGH!" Gemini collapsed to the grass instantly, grabbing his knee as sharp, blinding pain shot up his leg.

"Gemini! Hey, man, are you okay?!"

Within an hour, Gemini was lying on a gurney in a private room at a nearby hospital, his leg wrapped in a heavy ice pack and an elastic bandage. The doctor had already checked the X-rays—no broken bones, thank God, but severe contusion and tissue inflammation. He needed to rest and keep off it for a few days.

Gemini was mostly annoyed. He had his phone in hand, trying to decide whether to text Fourth. He didn't want to panic him; Fourth had an endorsement event that afternoon.

Before Gemini could make up his mind, the door to the hospital room was slammed open so hard it rebounded off the wall with a loud THUD.

Gemini startled.

There stood Fourth Nattawat.

He was breathing heavily, his hair completely messy, wearing mismatched clothes—one house slipper and one sneaker—and clutching a giant, plush penguin under his arm. He looked like he had just run a marathon through a hurricane.

"GEM!" Fourth yelled, tears already streaming down his flushed cheeks.

"Fourth?!" Gemini gasped, sitting up quickly. "What are you doing here?! How did you—"

Fourth didn't answer. He practically flew across the room, dropping the plush penguin on the floor and throwing himself onto the side of Gemini’s bed. He was sobbing loudly, wildly, grabbing Gemini’s shoulders and checking his arms, his face, his torso.

"Where are you hurt?! Are you dying?! P'Mond said a golf ball hit you! Who shot you with a ball?!" Fourth wailed, his voice cracking hysterically.

Gemini stared at him, absolutely stunned, before a laugh bubbled up in his chest. "Bii, calm down! I'm fine! It's just my knee! Look, I'm not dying!"

"Don't laugh!" Fourth hiccuped, tears soaking into Gemini’s hospital gown as he buried his face in Gemini’s chest. "I was in the middle of getting my hair done and P'Nook said that you were in the emergency room! I ran out! I didn't even let them finish my hair! Look at my hair, Gem, it looks crazy!"

Gemini looked at Fourth’s hair—half-styled with hairspray on one side, completely flat on the other—and his mismatched shoes.

He had dropped an entire official schedule. He had sprinted, looking completely unhinged, just because he heard Gemini was hurt.

Gemini felt a tear slip down his own cheek. He started laughing and crying at the same time, wrapping his arms securely around Fourth’s shivering frame.

"You ran out with one slipper?" Gemini choked out, kissing the top of Fourth’s half-styled head.

"I couldn't find the other one!" Fourth sniffled aggressively, wiping his nose on Gemini’s hospital blanket. "I don't care about slippers! I care about my Bok! You're my baby, you're not supposed to get hurt! If that golf ball comes back I'm going to kick it!"

Gemini cradled Fourth’s face in his hands, wiping the wet tears from his smooth cheeks. His heart was so full it felt like it might burst right out of his ribs.

"Bii," Gemini murmured, his voice thick with raw emotion. "I love you so much."

Fourth blinked his red, watery eyes, pouting so hard his bottom lip trembled. "You better love me. I look ridiculous right now."

"You look adorable," Gemini corrected, pressing a tender, lingering kiss to Fourth’s lips. "You're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."

Fourth sniffled again, leaning into the touch, finally calming down as he rested his chin on Gemini’s uninjured thigh, holding Gemini’s hand with both of his like a protective guard dog.

"Good," Fourth whispered softly, squeezing Gemini’s fingers tight. "Because I'm not going anywhere. Ever."

Gemini smiled, sinking back against the hospital pillows, his fingers tangled in Fourth’s messy hair. He didn't care about Toyota ads, or cheek kisses, or secret relationships anymore.

He had everything he would ever need right here.

Notes:

AHHH thank you so much for reading!! 🥺❤️

I’ve been wanting to write a super soft, domestic GemFourth where Gem is lowkey dramatic and jealous in his own head while trying to be the "cool, mature boyfriend," but Fourth is just 100% utterly obsessed with him!

Also, the golf ball incident was inspired by my absolute love for ridiculous hurt/comfort tropes—Fourth running with mismatched shoes and half-styled hair to protect his "baby" is my exact dynamic for them.

Please leave a comment/kudo if you enjoyed this soft, needy Bii and sulky Bok! See you in the next fic! ✨
