Work Text:
You and Peter had known each other since the second grade, briefly dating in highschool before he became spiderman and you became your own hero due to a chemical explosion from working in a lab. You both worked for Tony Stark and while you knew that Tony had mixed feelings about having two fifteen-year olds working for him, you were still glad that he wanted to spend so much time helping you learn to build your own weapons and train you to use them.
Fifteen felt like decades ago now. You felt like you were half dead, still recovering from the last fight with Thanos. You'd already lost Tony and Peter was just as messed up, preferring to stay with you in the long-term hospital room you were placed in when he wasn't working.
"Good morning."he said, sitting in his usual chair next to your bed and handing you a cup of coffee.
You smiled a little. "Morning. How was last night?"
Peter pulled up his shirt, showing a massive bruise on his side. "Fell off a building. How's therapy going?"
"Not great. Never thought specialized physical therapy for superhumans would be so exhausting. I wish my healing factor would make this easier."
"Right."
"I think the part where my mind is occupied with grief is probably why it's not working."
"Emotions can do that."
"How are you holding up?"
"I've lost everyone I've considered a parent. My friends don't know who I am, I'm working constantly when I'm not here with you. It's… not exactly fun for me."
"I'm sure it's not."
"I still don't understand why that spell never worked on you."
"Because Steven's my birth father. He can't touch me with spells. It's some weird family shit, I guess."
"Right."
"I'm tired of being here. I would so much rather just go home. Even if I can't do superhero stuff yet."
"You have four weeks left here. Then you get to go home."
"I'll be looking forward to that. I miss having a badass roommate."
"Yeah, roommate is the word I'd use now."he laughed.
You shook your head, laughing softly. "What are we doing, Peter?"
"I have no idea. If this is a relationship, it's certainly a weird one."
"Oh, definitely. It's more like stalking, I think."
Peter laughed. "Is it? I am your emergency contact."
"It's only fair. Would have been Tony if he was still here."
Peter frowned. "I know. I miss him too."
"I know, Peter."
You could see how much the memories still killed him. You knew what that felt like, naturally. You didn't have anyone like May who you were even slightly related to, you were Tony's adopted daughter. He found you when you were twelve and didn't want you to ever worry about where you'd get food or shelter again. You only found out you were Steven Strange's biological daughter after you'd gotten hurt on a mission and a blood test told you that.
"I shouldn't be bringing you down. He was your dad."Peter said after a while. "It isn't fair of me to be so beaten up about it when you lost a parent."
"Peter, he was like a father to you too. Don't compare us like that."
"Awful way to think about it given I think about kissing you every time I come here."
"Hm, gonna do the little hang upside down, pull down the mask a little thing?"you giggled.
Peter laughed softly. "I could. When you're doing better."
You gently tugged him closer by the front of his shirt and pulled his lips against yours. He fisted the blanket that laid across your lap in one hand.
"There. It's official now."you smiled.
"I like how you make things official."he smiled.
You kissed him a few more times, making him blush.
A few weeks later, after you'd gotten home from the long term hospital stay, Peter was obviously not willing to leave you home alone. Your legs were still pretty weak from the hits you took fighting Thanos and your magic wasn't working, though you'd never even consider going to your dad for training, the physical therapy had helped, of course, but you weren't back in fighting shape at all yet.
"Have you talked to MIT again? At all?"you asked Peter while he helped you lie down on the couch.
"Not yet. You talked to Morgan?"
You shook your head. "I don't know how. She's in high school now. Nothing to worry about at all. And I'm the older sister that bailed after Tony died because I can't look at her and not see him. It sucks."
"Believe me, I understand that. I've been alone except for seeing you."
"I know you have."
He pecked your lips. "I think you should try to talk to her though."
"It's been four years."
"I know. But, it's never too late to try, right?"
"Right. But… I got more time with Tony than she did. I got almost two decades with him, while she got a few years. That's… Honestly horrible to think about."
"Hey, that's not your fault. You were his daughter. You're still his daughter."
"I know."
Peter crossed the room and grabbed an envelope off of the kitchen counter, clearly he'd picked it up often, from the slight crumpling on the edges. He handed it over to you with a slight grimace.
"Some lawyer dropped that off for you."he said.
You raised an eyebrow at him. "How often have you picked this up?"
"I took it with me every time I went to visit you and I couldn't bring myself to give it to you when you were already in the hospital."
"Is this Tony's will?"
He shrugged. "I don't know. It could be."
"Okay."
You carefully opened the envelope, pulling out a piece of paper that felt like a dead weight in your hand. You carefully unfolded it, feeling your heart jump to your throat as you saw Tony's handwriting, telling you that since you were technically his first kid, he's leaving Stark Industries to you, leaving Pepper in charge until you decide to take it. Peter watched as your eyes welled with tears and carefully sat down between your legs, letting you bury your face in his shoulder.
