Once I was somebody

Summary:

He woke up not knowing a thing about himself. His name, his memories and his life gone. He knew he had to win the prize so he would finally remember.

Notes:

hopefully i'm going to update at least once a week but may also not be touched for months sorry T^T

i have seen all the shipping of Martyn with Ren (who isn't properly on the server) so I am combating that with Doctyn shipping! (with Doc being even further removed from Pantheon BUT we have a back story for that)

ENJOY :D

(btw the first chapter probably needs a bit of editing so this isn't the final copy but im happy with it rn and if I keep looking at it I will go insane)

Chapter 1: The tunnels

Chapter Text

Day One

I had a life. I know that about myself. I know I cling to the little semblance of living I have left. My memories, as scarce as they are, are proof I am not just a mindless creation of a god. I remember someone, I assume she was my mother, singing me lullabies as a young child. I remember meeting someone important to me. I remember grief. Not much else from my short life had stuck. All I remember is walking across the river. Ten years, six months, three days, four hours, give or take. The water, cold and wet, bringing most of my memories of a life that may not even be my own further downstream. I don’t care. Dwelling in the past won’t help here. It can wait until I win and wish for my memories back. And based on what little I’ve seen of the others, I won’t have much competition.

Day Two

The others have memories. It doesn’t seem fair. I can’t even remember my name and they can remember theirs with a certainty that shows they never had to think about it. I know they all don’t trust me. I wouldn’t trust me either. I mean Nobody isn’t an average name. But it's mine for now until I win. The path I have chosen to travel has been horrible, though if I know anything, I know all of the paths are there to entertain the gods. Though I could have chosen a path that was less warm. My companions don’t seem to mind the lack of greenery however, one seemingly enjoying the unbearable heat and the other more concerned with the lack of cloud. I don’t trust them, Abolish or Nikos. Abolish seems like bad news overall and Nikos seems too happy to be in a death game, to fight and seems to be eager in a way that's dangerous to those that surround him. I think they could be useful for now yet I wouldn’t want to partner with them on any sort of long term. I saw many other champions when we arrived yet I can tell they also wouldn’t be great to team up with. Not for any reason other than the fact that we were all chosen by the gods for a reason. And that reason may be the fact we are all bloodthirsty backstabbing traitors that will give them a good show. Or maybe I’m paranoid, I don’t know enough about my own life to make assumptions about anyone else’s.

Day Three

Artemis spoke to me. Or visited me. Or maybe something else, I’m not in the business of getting visited by goddesses. Well I may have been in that business when I was alive. It explains why I died young. I was able to summon her boar. A useful gift I'm sure, especially if the others don't know what hits them. Because of this, I have decided that the others don't have any business knowing who my god is. It is one of the only things that I truly know about myself and if I share it then they know all there is to know about me while I barely know anything about them. I don’t think they like me all that much anyway. They call me whiney for just being realistic and don’t trust me. Our alliance will likely be short, just until we escape here. I don't care if we stick together or not. I can survive fine in the wilderness and I'm sure the others won't just immediately get killed. Although the one called Scott seems rather unprepared for surviving off the land. Nikos seems eager to fight so that may be his downfall. Or his path to winning, I don't know how good he actually will be. I'll keep in mind not to take him up on his offers for combat any time soon until I am sure of his ability.

Day Four

We are free. Well as free as possible in a death game for the entertainment of the gods. But we have made it out of the cave. Nikos died to an exploding creature, the likes of which I have never seen before. His coin wasn't used so it is likely we are meant to kill each other. I'm sure of it. It was night when we emerged, though I’m not sure if there will ever be day. Gods above I missed the stars and the moon. Seeing them brought back memories of pointing out constellations with my father. They feel rather bittersweet yet I shouldn't complain about the little information that I am remembering. As I’m writing this we have set up camp just on the opening of the cave. Personally I would have continued on yet the others argued against it. I am just considering leaving them here, taking some resources and swimming across the water to reach the rest. But this may be the last night's sleep in a while (if we even need to sleep) and it would be foolish to lose any allies I have now.
