Summary
The act of contrition is the Catholic prayer of repentance recited during confession. Contrition requires the intention to stop sinning. Matt Murdock has never once met that condition.
You're the case he can't close, the signal he can't stop tracking, six months deep into something neither of you will name because naming it would require one of you to mean it. You keep him useful. He keeps you surveyed — your heartbeat catalogued at every distance, your resting pulse memorised down to the decimal, your route home mapped by sound so precisely he could walk it blindfolded, which is almost funny if you think about it long enough.
He confesses you to a priest in weekly instalments, each visit closer to the last, the language less controlled, the sins less theoretical. The priest has stopped offering scripture; Matt has stopped pretending he's there for absolution.
