Chapter Text
Growing up in this small old town ment never really leaving, same old friends you knew from primary school, same people, same routine, nothing different much at most that’s what I learned from mainly growing up here.
Basically meaning everyone knew everyone, everyone knew each others business, I’d always imagined myself living somewhere else as soon as I turned 18, gotten a place of own with a professional job of playing the piano full time
This town somewhat sucked, there were no other young musicians prodigy’s like me in town, it was boring really.
,At least that’s what I thought before everything for me changed when Lucy moved in to this small old town.
When she first moved here I didn’t know her much, from the adults I’ve overheard that it’s a family of 4 moving in, two parents and one older daughter and a younger son, they said they were kind, but with a hint of bitterness
That’s the perks of being a somewhat silent kid, being to overhear or eavesdrop on conversations that you weren’t or aren’t supposed to hear
Besides that the other kid’s conversations I have heard about the daughter were way different than the adults conversation, supposedly that she’s pretty and a bit bold.
Since I have never met her I simply assumed that she was just knew that she was most likely gonna be in the Peanuts gang just like any other kid on the block
Besides that, the very first time I ever met her was on a sunny winter morning, I still remember it like it was yesterday.
The sunny but cold breeze outside as the smell of fresh cool air came through the door and windows as the sound of chatter of children came from across the street at Charlie Browns house
I could faintly hear the voices of young violet, patty, Charlie Brown and Lucy that I would soon meet, “whose house is this?”,”Oh that’s Schroeder’s house””-you haven’t met him yet” Violet & patty interrupted, “Can I meet him?”,” Yeah go for it, he’s a bit shy and quiet tho”
I thought of what I just heard as I heard a knock at the door,”Schroeder, It’s Charlie you have to meet this girl she’s just moved in!”, “yeah come in” I yelled back to the door as I felt a slight feeling of annoyance of the interruption of my alone time as I felt my self stare at a short but tall girl with a blue & brownish eyes and with a short black hair cut draped over her shoulders
“Hello! I’m Lucille Van Pelt I have just moved into this town, you could call me Lucy for short tho, What’s your name?”, “Schroeder, Schroeder Felton.”,”Hello! Schroeder, what’s that you’re playing?”
“This is Waltz of the flowers Lucy. It’s from the Nutcracker suite-”I swiftly responded before getting rudely interrupted by the girl I have just met or Lucy
“-SWEET!?, YOU CALLED ME SWEET!?” She squealed, in high pitched voice
“ Wait- That’s not what I ment Luc-“, too late..
By that point she already happily walked out my place with a grin on her face and talking to herself, maybe out pure excitement or something completely else
“Sweet!!, He called me Sweet!!!, I’ve never been so Happy in all my life!!”she proudly squealed to Violet and Patty outside,” he did?” I heard the girls faintly talk from outside, “Lucy are you sure you heard that right, I mean you could’ve heard wro-”, “ Of course he did block head!!” The young Lucy screamed straight at Charlie Brown ,looking back was pretty ironic since we were pretty young but still didn’t change the stupidly of the situation
I was left dumbfounded at how someone could misinterpret something so badly and confuse it as something else than its original meaning.
Ever since then she’s had a crush on me, never ever leaving me alone.
Especially in school, when it came for any partner works she’d always find a way to snag me before any one else would
“Ooooh Schroeder!!, you’re gonna be my partner for the book report!!”
“Not again Lucy” I said angrily as she chose me for her book report partner in 3rd grade. I still remember the book we’d have chosen for the book report, A biography book about Beethoven, “The life of Beethoven”, by Anton Schindler.
Whenever we had had group projects like these I never got the chance to pair up with anyone else other than her since she would always find a way to choose me before anyone could, which was annoying but slowly grew on me, bit by bit.
She’s was always at my house after school as well in school whether if it was schoolwork, baseball or even just spending her time with me while playing the piano
It didn’t help that our classmates started teasing me from all her affection she had given to me, they’d use to say that we’d be cute together, perfect couple, Married as soon we where 21. Yuck! Us? Together there’s no way!
She was loud I was quiet, she was popular I was unpopular, How would that ever work out?.
Atleast that’s what I told myself growing up, deep inside I don’t really mind it.
I didn’t actually mind the teasing, the partnership and all the time I spent with her, I liked spending time with her whenever she wasn’t crabby or angry.
And that’s how its always been ever since then, at least before her moving in third grade..
After Lucy moved away in third grade I’ve never expected for my life to feel way quieter without her
I mean I knew that she was supposedly going to move away from town since she told me one day before her actual moving day but I’d just assumed it was one of her tricks to get me to say something or acknowledge her since at the time.
She used to use tricks to draw my attention, all the time back then since I would always focus my energy on the piano and Beethoven, even going as far as pretending to ignore me for a week straight, before apologizing for her stunt.
But I never really thought of her absence of chatter always imagining that I would be better without her daily crabbiness and constant talking about our future plans together forever, including Marriage to each other.
It was silly looking back since she would always go on and on while I was playing my piano without a care in the world of her talk secessions.
It never came to me that those sweet days would come to an end as I remembered that faint memory of an early morning day in may,
As stood and watched her load her things on a moving truck bit by bit to her nickels, she had earned from that silly psychiatrist stand from which she had gathered mainly being from Charlie Brown and all his problems,
Not solving them but just finding a way to make money out of it while zoning out or sometimes playing with her short dark black hair.
She never noticed that of course looking back.I’ve never stopped and questioned why she liked me and how I could not like her back?
Besides that I never expected her to actually move away as I watched a yellow big moving van, with “Sam’s moving van” labeled on the van truck and driving away with her family to a new life.
I remember looking at Charlie Brown talking with sally on the door steps of his house as he told me the sad news of Lucy’s family moving away for he dads job. I thought about her leaving as I questioned why I didn’t believe her, “But I didn’t think she’ll actually go, and move away, I- I just thought she was just kidding” I murmured to Charlie Brown with a clear expression of disbelief and sadness .“What do you care Schroeder, you’ve never liked her or acknowledged her, You were always picking on her”,”I-I”, “Just go Schroeder!” Both Sally and Charlie Brown yelled.
I was left dumb founded as I actually realized she’s gone and wouldn’t come back, neither would I see her for a long time
As the more I thought about it made me question why I felt like this weird sense of longing for her, As if I missed her?
Memories flashed through out my mind of our moments leading up to her moving, the stunts ,all those times I ignored her now it was to late to say or take back anything, I’ve never got the chance to say goodbye.
After that it was a bit of a blur I don’t remember what happened nor I could care as I walked back to my house, and tried my best to play one of Beethoven ninths symphony’s in the hopes of taking my mind off of Lucy’s leaving,
As I attempted to play my hands couldn’t help to hover above the piano, dancing like she used to dance at the ice skating show when we were younger.
I tried again, and again but no matter what I tried my hands would not cooperate with playing the piano despite of playing it everyday like it was nothing ,simply dangling on top of the keys with the only thing on my mind,
Lucile van pelt the most crabbiest girl in town.
