Caught Red-Tailed

The Alphas of Stiles Stilinski/Stiles Summer Stories 2026

Chris and Derek had left together. Well, no. That wasn’t right. Chris and Derek had not come back together. That was more accurate. When the pack had gone to Mexico to free Scott after Kate had taken him, had tried to turn him into a Berserker. Kate had escaped and Derek and Chris both felt responsible for tracking her down and finally ending that threat.

Stiles had seen the way those two had been growing closer. Ironically, they seemed to have bonded over trying to save Stiles’ life from the Nogitsune. Go figure. The two alphas Stiles was stupidly and unrealistically in love with and they fell in love with each other over the shared task of saving Stiles. Even when he was the damsel in distress in the story he didn’t get Prince Charming. Or the huntsman, or the big bad wolf. All he got was a shit-ton of trauma and issues.

So the two alphas Stiles was in love with fell in love with each other and both left town. But it was fine. It was totally fine. Stiles could take care of himself. He had done so for a long time. Not like he’d imagined some happily ever after where at least one of them would confess their love to him and then gently take care of him while he healed from all that trauma. It was fine. He was fine.

Only that he wasn’t. He really, really wasn’t fine. He’d still not really coped with everything with the Nogitsune, then the Benefactor – nearly dying in Eichen House, nearly dying when the Chemist was about to shoot him, just generally overall nearly dying throughout that whole experience, since there were bounties out on all supernatural, which included poor, innocent little fox-shifters like him – but things got so much worse with the Dread Doctors.

It was a whole different tier of threat, really. And having Theo around was… worse. To him. Because he didn’t trust Theo and he kept telling everyone. And nobody believed him. Everyone kept telling him that he was being paranoid. Which was just a great thing to hear for the boy who’d only recently been possessed and was, indeed, rather paranoid after that.

Which was about the time that Chris and Derek returned to Beacon Hills. Or the outskirts of Beacon Hills, anyway. Far enough away to have their privacy, but close enough to help with whatever mess the pack got dragged into. Close enough for sneaky little foxes to break into their cabin.

When everything became too much, when he was tired of being dismissed, when he felt like he was yelling at walls with his concerns, not just about Theo but about the pack’s future, about college, about the way everyone was so obviously drifting apart already, Stiles would use his full-shift to skip through the woods and sneak into Chris and Derek’s cabin. He’d break into their closet and steal some of their clothes for the nest he’d secretly been building in the unused guest room’s closet. The alphas hadn’t noticed yet, which meant Stiles’ nest was safe. Which meant Stiles was safe.

Chris had the fondest smile on his lips as he stood in the guest room’s doorway with his arms crossed. He could do this for hours, honestly. There was something so mesmerizing about the full-shift. He was proud of Derek for having mastered it, thought Derek deserved it. But even before Derek had learned to turn into a full wolf, there had been a red-tailed little trickster sneaking around Beacon Hills and stealing Chris’ attention.

Stiles was a born fox-shifter, on his mom’s side. He hadn’t even known it himself until the Nogitsune possessed him and the additional fox inside him had unlocked his shifter potential. With the Nogitsune’s boost, Stiles had also mastered the full-shift. He was beautiful, all rusty-red coat, with occasional dark spots that reminded of Stiles’ moles. The same honey-whiskey eyes though, even as they glowed Beta-golden when threatened.

“Is he actually living here now?” Derek asked worried as he came to stand behind Chris.

The wolf hooked his chin over Chris’ shoulder, his arms wrapping around the older alpha. Chris leaned into his mate’s chest, both their eyes on their little intruder. It was a fair question. They’d noticed Stiles breaking into their cabin a couple weeks ago. The first time, they thought he was just up to mischief, but after the third, they realized he was stealing their clothes. Which had confused both alphas at first, until they found the nest in the guest room. The heavy implication of the omega nesting in their home and with their clothes was one they first needed to digest themselves.

“You know he’s struggling,” Chris murmured softly as he reluctantly stepped out of the room.

He didn’t want to wake their little fox. According to the sheriff, Stiles was still having trouble sleeping. So if he found solace and comfort in their cabin, then Chris didn’t want to disturb him. The couple headed into the kitchen. Stiles had been coming by for weeks, but always in full shift and sneaking out again afterward. He didn’t come here to talk to them. So though the implications of Stiles nesting with their clothes and in their home was huge, the fact that Stiles avoided talking to them and didn’t seek them out in human form also spoke volumes on its own.

Lost and confused, the two alphas had reached out to the sheriff, asking how Stiles was doing. Not good. Still burdened by the Nogitsune, but also struggling with the new threats. Plural, that was. Not just the Dread Doctors and their Chimeras. No, Stiles was seeing another threat in the seemingly newest member of the McCall Pack. Derek had snarled at that. In the Hale Pack, they would have never accepted someone new in if the established members of the pack didn’t all agree.

“We should talk to him,” Derek suggested, or demanded.

He was glaring, even as he pushed his feet under Chris’ thighs once the two were settled down on the couch together. Chris huffed at his wolf. It was ironic, wasn’t it. That he had fallen for a wolf. Werewolf hunter and all. That he had fallen for another alpha, all while trying to save the life of the omega he was in love with. Because Derek was just as in love with Stiles, had been for even longer. Chris knew the bond Derek and Stiles had forged while hunting feral Peter, while fighting – well, ironically, Chris and his family. Chris had envied that bond, seen it as a threat of sorts, which was just as ridiculous, considering that Chris had no plans on acting on his feelings for the underage sheriff’s son. He hadn’t seen any chances with Stiles for himself. An old, broken alpha, who’d already buried a mate and now buried his child. What would a young omega want with him?

This recent development of nesting made him rethink that stance, but he was still torn. Because the fact that Stiles refused to talk to them about it, was sneaking around and keeping it a secret from them, it made Chris question if Stiles really wanted anything with them, or if he merely felt safe in the den of an experienced hunter and a born werewolf, the den of two strong, capable alphas. His own father was a beta, after all, and was out for long shifts. Which was usually when Stiles would break into their cabin, when the sheriff was out on shift. At worst, what Stiles wanted from them – from Chris – was a parental type of protection and that might just break Chris. So he chose the coward’s way of not confronting Stiles.

“We came back to protect him,” Chris whispered, his gaze down the hall toward where the guest room was. “What if us telling him chases him away? Has the opposite effect?”

Derek remained quiet at that, but he did lean in closer toward Chris, nuzzling into him. Chris brushed a kiss against Derek’s cheek. He’d never meant to fall in love with Derek, but the two understood each other in a way Chris wasn’t used to. It had started out with Stiles, yes. The need to protect the headstrong omega who would probably bite anyone trying to protect him. But it became so many more things. When Chris had taught Derek how to protect himself as a human, during his metamorphosis. Working together. They talked about Kate, in a way neither had ever dared to talk to anyone about this matter. Who would Chris even have talked to about it? Allison? No, even when she was still alive. How could he. But Derek understood. And Chris understood Derek in return.

“If he ever shows interest, we’ll talk to him,” Chris promised to appease his mate. “But right now, providing him with a place he can feel safe at is more important than our feelings for him.”

He didn’t want to be selfish. Having Stiles, telling him about their feelings, it was for them. Stiles had been through so much, having to deal with their feelings and desires shouldn’t be on him too. Derek hummed his agreement and brushed a kiss against Chris’ lips.

Stiles was wearing his newest acquisition. Chris’ alma mater hoodie. It was very comfortable and worn out and it smelled heavily like both alphas, which meant that Derek liked to steal it too. He’d never really imagined the Sourwolf as a clothes thief but the image of Derek wearing Chris’ clothes was kind of unexpectedly cute and had Stiles grinning a little.

He was curled together on his bed, staring at his conspiracy board. Not a lot solved. Not even a lot of clues. He barely knew the identities of any of the Chimeras. They still had no idea why the Dread Doctors were making them, or how. And Stiles still had to figure out how Theo fit into it all too. He was painfully aware of how much of a reach it was at this stage, his suspicion of Theo. He had no proof at all. It was all gut-intuition, really. He had neither motif nor evidence and it infuriated him.

He still thought it should count for something. Not for condemnation maybe, but at least suspicion. Being cautious about Theo. Not sharing their plans with him. He still couldn’t believe Scott had literally let Theo read the damn book. Was letting Malia do research with Theo.

Grinding his teeth together, Stiles pushed off his bed abruptly. He was frustrated. Feeling caged. Donovan had hunted him through the library, bitten him, threatened his dad. And Stiles knew, he knew that Theo was involved in this. But why. Because Stiles was a threat? Was too suspicious of him? So Theo was trying to get rid of him? Stiles growled softly. He wasn’t prey. He was a fox. A predator. He shouldn’t be chased and hunted. He should be the one hunting. Growling in frustration, he climbed out of his window.

Derek tilted his head intrigued when he smelled Stiles approaching. He shot his mate a look, gaining Chris’ attention. The pair went to the front door and opened before the boy could knock. Which, by the looks of it, he had actually planned on doing. He was human and standing in front of their door, instead of sneaking in through the window they kept leaving conveniently open for their little thief. Stiles blinked at them with those big eyes of his and Derek felt himself getting lost in them. How Stiles still hadn’t realized he had them wrapped around his little finger was beyond him.

“Go hunting with me,” Stiles demanded, but he was nervously bouncing on the balls of his feet.

“I’m sorry,” Chris frowned surprised at the boy. “Also, you forgot the question-mark at the end.”

Derek snorted and shot his mate a look. “Next you’re asking him to ‘ask nicely’. He’d rather die.”

“Yeah. That,” Stiles nodded and motioned at Derek. “Hunting. I mean, mostly Derek, because full-shift. But you are a hunter so I guess you could come with us too.”

“You… want to hunt? In full-shift?” Derek asked intrigued.

His mom used to do that. Derek had always watched her enviously through the window as she stalked into the woods. It hadn’t occurred to him as something he could do just yet. His full-shift was still so new to him and he had spent the majority of the time hunting down Kate with Chris.

“I usually go with Malia,” Stiles shrugged. “It really helped her get settled in the pack, that she could still be a coyote, even if not all the time anymore, and that she didn’t have to leave everything behind. And it helped me get settled with the fox. But she is currently out hunting her murderous mother with her equally murderous but more morally gray father. So… Go hunting with me.”

“Okay,” Derek said, even before he had really thought it through.

Stiles’ face lit up in a way Derek didn’t remember ever seeing before. It made him fall just a little more in love with the omega. He led the way inside, bringing Stiles to the guest room that Derek and Chris had been thinking of as Stiles’ room for weeks now, before heading to their bedroom so he could get changed himself. Chris also got changed, though in a different manner.

“...You know you’re wagging your tail?” Chris asked amused, standing before him half-naked.

Derek gave a soft bark at that. Not his fault that his mate was very attractive. Chris chuckled and got dressed before running his fingers through Derek’s fur. Together, they left the bedroom and went to seek out Stiles. They were joined by the fox in the hallway. Derek circled the smaller shifter, rubbing his nose along red fur as Stiles yipped softly.

“Look at you two,” Chris whispered, his voice heavy with fondness. “Come on.”

The three of them left the house and headed deeper and deeper into the preserve. Derek had never done this before. Hunting in full-shift. He ran through the preserve, loved feeling the ground beneath his paws and the wind in his fur, but allowing himself something as primal as catching a prey’s scent and hunting it? It was exhilarating and it was made all the better by having his mates with him. Chris, watching them from a distance, cautious but close. And Stiles, right by his side, quick paws and sharp teeth hunting even more efficient than Derek, since the omega knew what he was doing and Derek was learning on the fly.

The longer they were out there, the easier it came to Derek to embrace the wolf, to follow his instincts. So much so that, by the end of it, he was no longer chasing prey. They’d hunted down a deer successfully and Chris had gone to collect the body, but Derek’s wolf wasn’t done chasing. He set his eyes on the mischievous omega before him. With one soft warning growl did he pounce. Stiles yipped in confused protest, before catching on. And then they were running.

Derek had no idea how long they were running through the preserve, but it was the most freeing thing he had ever done. The sky was tinted pink with the sun setting over the trees by the time Derek finally had his quick, clever fox pinned. Stiles grinned at him and then bared his throat in submission. Derek growled pleased and nuzzled into Stiles’ neck.

“Now that you caught me fair and square, what do you plan on doing with me?”

Derek blinked and looked at the now human boy. The very naked human omega laying beneath him. He cleared his throat as he shifted back, acutely aware of their nakedness. Yet he couldn’t quite bring himself to get off Stiles, still leaning over the fox he caught.

“Keep you,” Derek whispered daringly.

Stiles’ breath hitched at that and he frowned at the alpha. “What does that mean?”

“It means…” Derek faltered just a little.

He knew he shouldn’t have this conversation without Chris, but then they had agreed that they’d agreed to have the conversation when Stiles came to them. He had come to them, asked for comfort – well, demanded it, really. And he had let Derek chase him like that. The fox knew what this meant, instinctively but also from the most certainly huge amount of research he’d done on the matter. An alpha chasing and catching an omega was as clear as intent could go.

“It means that Chris and I want to be the people you come to when you don’t want to be alone or need something. To us, directly, not breaking into our cabin to hide away,” Derek said firmly.

Stiles’ eyes widened horrified. “You, uh, know about that…?”

“Stiles,” Derek gave him a deadpan. “I’m a werewolf. Do you really think that, regardless how sneaky you are, little fox, you could get into a wolf’s den without him noticing…?”

“I’m very sneaky,” Stiles protested, though he was still flustered, before turning his head away a little. “You… So you didn’t mind, me breaking in? I thought… I didn’t know…”

“No, we don’t mind you coming to us to feel safe,” Chris interjected with a heavy sigh. “But do you two want to put on some clothes for this conversation? And maybe we could have it in the cabin, instead of on the forest floor? I am not joining you down there.”

Derek got up and accepted the sweat-pants and shirt his mate had brought with him. He gently nuzzled Chris in thanks. Stiles very tentatively did the same after he was dressed. The omega’s heart was racing as he looked at the two alphas, before taking a deep breath and grabbing both their hands. Chris and Derek exchanged a surprised but pleased smile behind the boy’s back.

“Why did you come back to Beacon Hills, after everything?” Stiles asked as soon as they were inside the cabin. “You left for a reason. Peter’s gone, searching for Corinne. Cora’s in Mexico. Isaac is also in Mexico, where you dropped him off. So why are you here?”

Not exactly the question Derek had expected first. “For you. To make sure you’re safe.”

“This town took enough from the both of us,” Chris added softly. “We wanted to make sure it won’t take you from us either. Even if we more or less accepted that you would never be ours, we still want you safe. Though your recent break ins did… make us question some things.”

Stiles tapped his fingers against the table. After Cora had returned to Mexico, Stiles had passed along the address in Bahía de Lobos to Boyd and Erica, who’d been aimlessly traveling through California so far, still looking for a pack. Cora, Boyd, Erica and Isaac were in Mexico.

“If you weren’t here for me, where would you be?” Stiles asked softly.

“With Cora,” Derek admitted readily. “Peter will return too, once he’s done with this. Part of… why he is helping Malia with this is to convince her to leave with us.”

“Why haven’t you tried to convince me to go with you, then?” Stiles wanted to know next.

“Would you?” Chris asked with wide, surprised eyes. “You are… deeply loyal.”

“Mh,” Stiles shrugged, a sad half-smile on his lips. “Turns out there’s a limit to everything. I’m tired of how much this town’s taken from me too, you know. I… I want to get out. I just need to convince dad of early retirement, because I’m not leaving him behind. But… I want… out.”

“Come with us, then,” Derek asked, near pleaded, as he stepped up to Stiles. “We’re rebuilding the Hale Pack. I want you to be a part of it. You’ve been a part of it ever since I came back to Beacon Hills. Please. I want… I need you, Stiles.”

Stiles bit his lip before he grabbed Derek by the shirt and pulled him into a kiss. He hadn’t thought he could have them. He’d wondered why they had returned, but never could he have pictured that he was the reason for it. Once his kiss with Derek broke, Chris pulled him in close and Stiles eagerly leaned in to kiss the hunter too. A fresh start sounded good. With them, even better.

~*~ The End ~*~

Notes:

I really love fox!Stiles and I love omegaverse nesting and I figured Derek and Chris WOULD BE the type to move into a cabin in the woods, so that fit this prompt perfectly ;D
