The Hellhound and the Spark
The Alphas of Stiles Stilinski/Stiles Summer Stories 2026
“You? I’m gonna keep you.”
Those words were haunting Jordan. They shouldn’t. The barely legal son of the sheriff – of his boss – shouldn’t have that kind of effect on him. Jordan had tried not to look at Stiles like that. Not to look too much at the beautiful omega son of his boss who kept hanging out at the station.
He’d tried, but damn did Stiles make that impossible. And then they went to Eichen House – Jordan had volunteered to go with Stiles and Lydia, to make sure the teens would be safe. Because apparently, Stiles had had a very bad experience with that place. Jordan wasn’t privy to the details, but he’d heard the rumors around the bullpen. How Stiles had struggled with some mental health issues last year and how the sheriff had sent his son to Eichen House in the hopes they could help. All they did was traumatize Stiles further, it seemed.
There was a protective beast caged by Jordan’s ribs and it had demanded he go with them.
The orderly, Brunski, had pushed Stiles around, mocked him, belittled him for things that were truly no reason to make fun of anyone, much less a teenager who had suffered in this hospital before. That the sheriff was late with the bills, as though Stiles had anything to do with that. As though Stiles had brought this on himself. It made the beast in Jordan’s chest roar and he pushed back against Brunski, put the nasty man into his place until the beta cowered and caved.
And then Stiles had said those words. Had smiled at Jordan, touched Jordan, and said those words.
Jordan melted and the beast in his chest purred and rolled onto its back, happy to have pleased the omega, delighted that Stiles wanted to keep them. It was bad. It was really bad.
And it kept getting worse. When Stiles and Lydia returned to Eichen House alone, got themselves held hostage and nearly killed by Brunski and by Meredith Walker, the Benefactor. Thankfully, Jordan was a better deputy than some people gave him credit for and he figured out that Brunski was a serial killer. He’d broken every speed law on his way to Eichen House, to save them.
He put a bullet in Brunski, arrested Meredith and got both Lydia and Stiles the needed medical attention. He went to the interrogation of Meredith Walker, but his mind remained with Stiles, who was in the hospital to be checked out. The teens had been drugged, after all.
But the Benefactor was taken out. Finally. They would all be safe again. Though he had been pretty safe, on account of whatever beast he was. It were the others he worried about. Stiles, in particular. The Spark was at the top of the Deadpool, even though Jordan still didn’t know what a Spark was.

Turned out a Spark was a magic user. A guardian of the lands. Or so Stiles explained when the two of them walked through the preserve together. Parrish kept having recurring dreams about some huge tree stump and somehow, everybody got very concerned after Parrish told them. In the end, after a lot of arguing from the Hales in particular, Stiles was the one to take Parrish out into the woods. The Hales were against it, had been the Nemeton’s guardians for centuries now, apparently.
“Sorry about the hostile protective werewolves,” Stiles shot him a sheepish look.
“Can’t really fault them,” Jordan shrugged a little. “If their family has been guarding that tree for so long? I get it. I probably wouldn’t take myself to the magic tree either, if I were them.”
Stiles snorted softly and then turned away from him. He looked into the middle distance, like he was hearing or seeing something Jordan wasn’t. Maybe he was. Jordan still wasn’t sure about what a Spark really was. He wasn’t sure about a whole lot of things, even as the sheriff, Stiles and Lydia were trying hard to explain it all to him. It was a lot, and it was quite overwhelming.
“Mh, curious,” Stiles tilted his head and then turned to look at Jordan.
Jordan’s breath caught in his throat, because Stiles’ eyes were glowing, the color of the ocean. They were breathtaking and intimidating at the same time. The beast in his chest rumbled contently.
“W… What is it, Stiles?” Jordan asked carefully.
“She wants to see you,” Stiles replied. “She usually doesn’t like people. Avoids them.”
“She…?” Jordan frowned. “Who? I thought we were looking for a tree.”
“Yeah,” Stiles raised his eyebrows like Jordan was being obtuse. “She. My Nemeton.”
“Right. The tree has pronouns,” Jordan muttered.
“Of course she does,” Stiles shot him a weird look. “Every creature – humans, animals and plants – has pronouns, it comes free with being a noun? Whether you refer to the tree as it or she, both are pronouns. That’s how language works.”
Jordan opened and closed his mouth a couple of times before shaking his head. “How does a tree avoid people? Aren’t they kind of… rooted to the spot?”
Stiles gave him a very unimpressed look at the play on words, which had Jordan deflat just a little. “Yeah, sure. But she is also magic. Meaning that if she doesn’t like your vibe, she can send out pulses of magic subtle enough to not be noticed by humans, not consciously at least. But they… It’s like getting a bad feeling, avoiding a place without meaning to. Though she can’t physically change her location, she can confuse and misguide humans so much so that they can’t find her.”
“Huh,” Jordan blinked a couple of times. “Your tree sounds scary.”
“Yeah,” Stiles grinned proudly. “She’s a good girl.”
The two walked in companionable silence for a while. It allowed Jordan’s mind to race around the current threat they were facing. Because, apparently, things were never just peaceful in this town. The Nogitsune, the Benefactor, now the Dread Doctors. It was one thing after the other ever since he had moved here. The sheriff said it was because of the tree, because it – she – was a beacon for the supernatural. Hence the county’s name. Apparently, she was also why Jordan was here.
“Okay. That is a lot of dead bodies,” Stiles muttered. “So… You sure about these dreams? Or, about them actually… being dreams? Because this looks like you have been… piling offerings onto my Nemeton. And she… mh. Moderately appreciates it.”
Jordan was too horrified to react though. The bodies were real. The tree was surrounded by them. Jordan was the one who had been taking the bodies and bringing them to the Nemeton, for some reason. Stiles walked over and found a spot to reach his tree to climb on top of her.
“Interesting,” Stiles hummed. “They’re not sacrifices. It’s not like with the Darach. It’s like… she is protecting them, or something. I don’t really know. I’m not fluent in reading magic tree vibes.”
Jordan just rubbed his face, willing this nightmare to end. Why was this happening to him? Why was he taking dead bodies to a magic tree? What was that beast in his chest? He startled when there was a hand on his arm. Looking up, he saw Stiles’ concerned face. The omega’s sweet and soothing scent made the beast in him calm down and that also gave the alpha some peace.
“What am I, Stiles?” Jordan asked softly. “Tracy had these… not-dreams. They were true, and then she was a… lizard-wolf, and then she… she was dead. Am I going to die?”
“Not if I can help it,” Stiles frowned at him, his eyes flashing teal. “I told you, I’m keeping you. I make it a point to not let the people I care about die, not if I can help it.”
Jordan sucked in a breath and for some reason, he felt very settled by that. Soothed.

Jordan was on patrol at night when he saw the familiar outline of Stiles’ Jeep. He startled at the sound of a window shattering and quickly pulled over to get out of the car, gun at the ready. Stiles stood leaning over the hood of his Jeep, shaking. The front window was broken now.
“Stiles?” Jordan asked confused. “What happened? Are you… You’re hurt.”
He didn’t put his gun away just yet, because Stiles was distressed, potentially hurt. Whatever had caused that may still be around. Stiles turned to look at him with tear-wet eyes. Stiles was soaking wet and shaking. It had rained earlier. The omega looked completely miserable and wrecked.
“He attacked me. I swear, it was… it was self-defense, I didn’t meant to… but he’s… I…” Stiles’ breath stuttered. “Scott doesn’t believe me. He’s believing Theo. Theo had the wrench and it… I… it doesn’t prove anything. It’s not like I killed Donovan with it. He fell! I was… I’m… I didn’t…”
Stiles often made no sense but because he gave too much information, so this was highly untypical. Jordan put his gun away and instead pulled the omega into a hug, trying to soothe him. Stiles clung onto him and started really crying. They stood like that for what felt like hours.
“What happened?” Jordan asked softly, once Stiles was more calmed down.
“I… I was attacked, at the school, it… I… killed him. In self defense!” Stiles looked up at him with those big, wet eyes and how could Jordan possible doubt him, how could anyone. “I even called it in. But when a deputy came to check, there… was nothing anymore. Not just the body was gone, the blood too. I found small traces, but the huge puddle was just gone. Everything looked like nothing had happened at all and I… I didn’t tell anyone. But Theo. Theo knew. Probably because he sent Donovan to kill me in the first place. And now Theo told Scott and… Scott’s believing him.”
“Okay, okay,” Jordan cupped Stiles’ face. “Can I drive you home, please? Your father must be worried. I’ll call a tow-truck for the Jeep, but let me make sure you get home safely.”
“Dad doesn’t know either,” Stiles choked on another sob.
“That’s okay, that’s okay. We can tell him together. He’ll believe you, it’ll be fine.”
“H… How can you be sure?” Stiles frowned doubtfully at Jordan.
And in that moment, Jordan realized that Stiles was afraid. That must be why he hadn’t told anyone. Because he’d been afraid of the judgment. Now that his best friend had passed judgment, Stiles didn’t believe anyone else would be on his side. Jordan pulled him into another hug.
“Because your dad loves you,” Jordan said with determination. “I am spending every day with the man and he always talks about you, with so much pride and love. Exasperation and grievance too, but mostly love, really.”
It got him a small laugh from Stiles. “Yeah, I’m causing him gray hair.”
“You are,” Jordan agreed. “But he loves you. He will always be on your side. He… He told me about the fight you two had when he didn’t believe you about the supernatural, how heartbroken you were. And that he swore he’d always be on your side, regardless of how unbelievable what you said would sound. Self-defense doesn’t sound unbelievable at all, Stiles. You’re not a killer. And we know how dangerous and obsessive Donovan was. Your dad will understand.”
Stiles gave a small nod and allowed the deputy to guide him to the car.

The sheriff was in surgery. Lydia was catatonic. More people were dead. And Jordan was out in the tunnels with Stiles, searching for the chimera that had injured the sheriff. He’d been there, in the hospital, when Stiles had attacked Scott, had blamed the other boy for this happening. Because of Theo. Because Theo had finally made an undeniable move. Had tried to kill the sheriff, given Stiles the choice to save either the sheriff or Scott – which hadn’t been a choice at all, really. Yet getting to the sheriff hadn’t guaranteed his safety, which brought Stiles and Jordan down here.
“He’s going to be fine, Stiles,” Jordan promised.
“Right,” Stiles glared ahead. “Don’t give me false hope, Parrish.”
The alpha heaved a sigh. Of course he didn’t actually know. But he also knew that the sheriff really loved his son and wouldn’t just leave him. He also was too much of a fighter to give up easily.
“You said the Hale Pack are out there, helping with the search, right?” Jordan tried, instead.
“Yeah,” Stiles relaxed a little. “Boyd and Erica are combing the woods. Cora and Isaac are looking for Theo. Derek is going to try and help Lydia. Peter’s still out on that father-daughter bonding trip with Malia, you know, trying to kill her birth mom and all that. We’ll find him. Them.”
Stiles balled a fist, sparks flying from it. It was clear what Stiles wanted to do to Theo if he got his hands on him. Jordan reached out to take Stiles’ hand and ease his fist open.
“Revenge isn’t justice, Stiles,” Jordan whispered gently.
“I gotta properly introduce you to Peter,” Stiles snorted. “And maybe I don’t want justice. Maybe I just want Theo to hurt, like he’s hurt me and those I care about. Liam tried to kill Scott, because Scott refused to bite Hayden. Now Hayden’s dead. Liam’s injured and heartbroken and confused. Lydia is catatonic, probably because Theo used the claws on her without knowing how to use them. Kira is on a stupid vision quest because nobody was there to help her on time, because Scott kept only confiding in Theo about his suspicions about her not doing well. There is no McCall Pack anymore. I was there when we built it and now it’s gone, just like that. Malia’s going to find a place among the Hale Pack probably, they… are her family and she has been growing closer to Peter lately. Lydia… Derek isn’t an expert with the claws like Peter, but he learned from Peter, he… he should be able to help her and then, I don’t know. I… don’t know.”
Stiles was shaking, with rage and helplessness alike. Jordan paused and pulled the boy into a hug. It took Stiles a moment to relax into it but then he was breathing deeply and letting go of some of the tension. Jordan nuzzled into Stiles’ neck, inhaling the omega’s sweet scent.
“It’s going to be alright, Stiles,” Jordan promised softly. “Because you’re not alone. The Hale Pack is there to help you. And you don’t have to figure everything out for everyone all on your own. They’re all old enough to make their own choices and take responsibility for their own lives and decisions. Right now, let’s focus on saving your dad, okay?”
Stiles gave a minute nod at that and took a shaky breath. “Okay. Thanks, Jordan.”
Jordan felt warm because that was the first time Stiles had used his first name.

The thing Lydia had found out before Theo had rammed his claws into her neck to get the location of the Nemeton was that Jordan was a hellhound. She shared all of that with them after Derek helped her back into the present world, and right on time too, because Natalie Martin had been quick to just send her off to Eichen House – the very place where she had nearly died only weeks ago! Jordan genuinely couldn’t believe that. Much like he couldn’t believe the hellhound thing.
“A guardian of the supernatural,” Stiles offered where he was sprawled out on the Nemeton. “It makes sense. You kept taking the bodies of those who were supernatural and might have given the secret away to humans if found by them. And you brought them to my Nemeton.”
“But why did I do that?” Jordan asked confused. “I mean, it’s a… tree. And they’re just laying around the tree. Even if she can avoid people finding her if she doesn’t want them to, this isn’t exactly… hiding the bodies and evidence well.”
Stiles rolled over onto his back and sprawled out. He was surrounded by magic books, mythological books, folklore books. Anything about hellhounds, throughout various cultures. He put the book he was currently reading down onto his chest, so Jordan could read the title. Spinthíras.
“So, there’s different interpretations of hellhounds in different cultures, right? Garm, Anubis, Zerberus,” Stiles stated. “There’s different interpretations of Sparks too. In the Greek understanding, Sparks were created by Demeter and Hecate working together. You know the tale of Hades and Persephone? The spring goddess who fell in love with the king of the underworld? Her mother, Demeter, was distraught and searched the Earth for her. Hecate, the goddess of magic, accompanied her on her quest. They planted these magic trees together, Demeter being a nature goddess. At every place where they looked and didn’t find Persephone. As a thanks, but also as a mark that they had already looked here. The trees are linked to Persephone and after she became the queen of the underworld, when marrying Hades, the trees became ties to the underworld.”
“I’m a hellhound, like Zerberus. That was Hades’ pet, right?” Jordan frowned. “I saw the movie.”
Stiles stared at him hard and squinted. “You’re talking about the Disney movie, aren’t you? It’s… highly inaccurate. And so might be the separation of Zerberus and Hades. This book, for one, theorizes that Hades himself was a hellhound – look at you, you don’t look like an oversized puppy either. The three-headed dog is more of a metaphor, then. The hellhound, the king of the underworld, the god of riches and wealth. The three aspects of Hades.”
“...So I’m a god?” Jordan frowned confused.
“No,” Stiles rolled his eyes. “But Hades was a god. He was a hellhound and a god. The Nemeton is a tie to Hades’ wife Persephone, they are her sacred trees. They are a tie to the underworld. So you, as a hellhound, keep bringing the bodies here. But my Nemeton is too weak to actually deliver them to the underworld, to get rid of the problem, so to speak. So they’re piling up instead.”
“So I’m Hades and… you’re Persephone?” Jordan frowned. “Since it’s your tree?”
Stiles stared at him with wide eyes and surprisingly red cheeks. “I, uh. I do not know what to say to that jump in logic, Parrish. It just means we work together to protect the land, with the tree.”
“I like it better when you call me Jordan,” Jordan admitted and sat down next to Stiles. “Sorry for making it weird. I just… it kind of sounded that way?”
“Maybe, I guess,” Stiles shrugged, looking highly flustered. “I just…”
“Yeah?” Jordan tilted his head, looking at the Spark.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake, Jordan, I have a huge crush on you, literally everybody knows,” Stiles heaved a sigh. “Lydia is trying to be all encouraging, but come on, what do you want with a high schooler? So just, don’t say stuff like that. Like we’re Hades and Persephone. It makes an unmated omega think the wrong things, you know?”
“But… what if that’s the exact thing I want you to think?” Jordan asked, his pulse racing and the beast in his chest clawing to get out, to get to their omega. “Because I’ve been trying not to want you for months and it keeps not working. But maybe it keeps not working because I am actually meant to want you. And maybe I am meant to be yours.”
Stiles was staring at him with huge eyes and then he just lunged forward, grabbing Jordan by the shirt and pulling him into a truly bruising kiss. Jordan fell backward onto the tree and found himself with an eager omega atop of him, still kissing him. The tree felt… weird. Like it was buzzing. But then so did Jordan. He grabbed Stiles by the neck and deepened their kiss. With everything in this town and all the danger, they both deserved to be happy, right?
